What bike should I buy for my first half iron man?
Q. Should I stick to a road bike or maybe get a time trial one? I'm planning to end the race in less than 5 hours.

A. If you've got the money, the desire to continue doing triathlons, and the determination to be as competitive as possible, then there's no reason not to purchase a TT bike at the highest level your wallet can take. But if your current road bike is up to it, how necessary is it to lay out the money for a TT bike that will perhaps only shave a few minutes from your total event time? Every triathlete has their strongest area...and their weakest area. If you're not a particularly strong runner or swimmer, and you count on the bike segment to get pick up some time, then you want to be on a bike that's up to the task. Of course, a weaker cyclist might count on the best bike to help them on his/her worst segment. Again, you're probably only… [cont.]
