Marketing book sales and promotiong a publishing company?
Q. I feel really stumped when it comes to marketing ideas for book sales. Everything takes time but rarely comes back with sales. Any Ideas?

A. How well a book sells is heavily dependent on what the author's goals are and how actively they choose to promote their book. Some of our authors are very visible, talking on the radio, organizing book signings, and reaching and exceeding their sales goals. Our higher-selling authors have sold over 5000 copies so far. On the flip side, we have some authors that have only sold a few copies, mostly to friends and family, because that's all they wanted to sell. We believe our authors will sell more and more copies as we continue to introduce services that will give them the ability to market their books more effectively, but in the long run, sales are a reflection of each author's goals. If becoming a bestselling author is your goal, you will… [cont.]

A. I don't know any books but I know a good forum where there are a lot of Internet marketers who write these books. There is a wealth of information on this forum and you can also advertise your website for free when you recieve credits. You get credits for posting and reading posts. Also you can ask questions and get expert responses so hold off on purchasing any book until you check this out. Here is the link.

A. For online marketing you just can beat "Call to action" by Bryan Eisenberg and Jeffery Eisenberg Its a big thick hardbound book, although I think they have a softcover. I have read hundreds of books on marketing and this is by far the most comprehensive. It's all about conversion and this book makes that very clear.

A. The first question is how is it published? Self published or by a publisher? If you have a publisher, they will help you with selling the book and you can arrange for book signings at book stores. If you are self publishing, get a book on promoting books. You could set up interviews at radio stations and send lots of copies for free to associations or news media you'd like to speak at. Get it on Amazon. Good luck.

A. I've had a look on both the British Library and Library of Congress catalogues (both available online) and they say the book was published in 1982, which might be why you've had no luck finding an ISBN for it. Anyway the ISBN according to the British Library is 0884061329 and the ISSN according to the Library of Congress is 0732-7331 so between these you should be able to get hold of the book you're looking for. If you ever get stuck finding a book again I would thoroughly recommend using these catalogues as both libraries are copyright libraries so hold almost all published material.

A. itsnotme, those actions are not likely to result in many sales, quite possibly in no sales at all. Who's going to find your blog (then read it and buy the book) and how? What book catalogues accept self-pubbed listings, and are they free to add one's work? To whom are those catalogues distributed, and what sales result? How will adding your title to google or other searches increase your sales? If they know your title, they'll know where to buy the book, and if they get your title while seeking something else, they're unlikely to click the link, much less buy the book. Author-penned book reviews at myspace, amazon, etc. are usually pretty transparent and don't increase sales. So I don't see any of your ideas as workable. Marketing a… [cont.]

A. If you are serious about writing, and selling your writing, you should go to the library or bookstore and get a copy of the latest "The Writer's Market" - it has a thorough overview of the writing process from what to write, how to get an agent, how to approach publishers, and what to look out for in contracts.

Q. Can anyone recommend a good text book on marketing in not-for-profit/public sector organisations?
Asked by JAL - Thu Sep 4 08:00:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In reality, there is no difference between marketing for non profits or for profits. If there is a difference, it is only the focus of your marketing and not the marketing itself. There are a plethora of good marketing books in the US, but you evidently are in a country like England which can be determined by how you spell organization as organisation. I would go onto www.abebooks.com and look for marketing books written by a Dr. McCarthy. These books may be dated a bit, but they are good, easy to understand and work with, and he was one of the most respected marketing professors for years and years. You should be able to buy one for pennies. You don' t have to buy the most recent book out, it will tell you nothing more in reality. … [cont.]

A. First, you have to have contents for two books. the first one has to be informative enough to make you attractive as an author and the second one has to be continuum of the first one plus more in-depth contents. That's about the product. Now, about selling it. You start selling electronic version of your book through affiliates. you offer them 100% commission. Basically, it means that they get all the money from the sale. The purpose is to get as many people as possible who will advertise your book on your behalf. If the book is an attractive reading you will have your fans. Now comes the second book. You see, this time you put a price to compensate you for the both. Of course, the ultimate importance is to provide quality contents. … [cont.]
