Why do colleges make their own books?
Q. Especially if it's the same as the last edition except there's another book in the back with worksheets. It costs two times more than the regular book, it has the same questions, chapters, everything. Is this yet another way for community colleges to make money? Since you can't get it from Amazon for cheap. My mother is renting the college edition, I already have the last edition from a year ago.

A. I checked around on the Internet and didn't see anything promising. Is it to late to call a classmate/friend with a scanner? Maybe they can scan and email the worksheets to you. If the worksheets are due tomorrow you may be out of luck - otherwise go by and ask your teacher for another set first thing in the morning. Does the teacher have a morning tutorial? What is a good program that I could use to study Korean or Chinese (Mandarin) at my high school?
Q. I'm really interested in learning Chinese in Korean. My mathematics Higher level teacher plagiarises from various books. What can be done?
Q. All the worksheets we get, all the notes on the board are an exact copy of what is written in math books. He claims that every assignment he gives us is made by himself. Isn't that considered plagiarism given that the books where he copies everything from are copywrite? And what can be done? Note: The teacher's level of english is extreemely low, and it is quite difficult to understand his explanations. I live in France. I'm not talking about exercises or examples obviously...It more about the explanations that are an EXACT copy of other books that I've read. Note: Lately we were given a portfolio assignement (For the IB). And guess what... It is completely ununderstandable; Because it's gonna be sent to the IBO, he wrote it himself!!

What is the difference between a teacher teaching from a book or writing the book down? Teachers copy their lesson plans from textbooks all the time. Do you really expect teachers to come up with completely unique and innovated lesson plans? unreasonable. Your complaint basically is that you feel that you are not learning and that he is an incompetant teacher...he has broken no laws...but maybe he doesn't deserve the job if you are right...complain to administration and encourage classmates to do the same

If you want something more academic get a compilation of Modern Drama at the library (the Bedford and Norton anthologies are good), these always have introductory essays on the works that are very high quality. Why do we have summer assignments in the first place?
Q. The way I see it, summer is our only major time to relax, away from school, having opportunities to do things you couldn't during school, like go on very long vacations, go to parties without worrying about school the next day or 2, etc. So why are we forced to do assignments over this period of time? We work our asses off for 10 months of the year, and we get a little over 2 months. So why do we get books to read, packets to annotate, assignments on those books, and worksheets on AP classes, to just remind us that summer is eventually coming to an end? I just don't understand we we have these tasks to do to get us back in a working-mood during our summer break in the first place. Would someone want to clarify this? Besides, people just… [cont.]

I know it seems stupid because summer is supposed to be where u don't have school, but to them they want your minds to be ready when you come back to school. If you do the summer work at the beggining where you're used to school then it will be done and you can have the rest of the summer free. Hope you use this.

What is the best music theory book for preparing for the AP Music Theory Exam?

Q. I am making a 'Prep Time Calculator' in microsoft excel. I have a series of drop down menus each depending on what was selected. I need to make it so when I make a selection from one of the drop downs it will pull a value from another worksheet in the same book and place it in the cell directly to the right of the cell that has the menu.

Do you ever actually do your homework by yourself?
Q. All I see in the Science and Mathematics section is questions that pretty much say: "Can you do my homework for me?" I'm curious to know, do you ever actually do your homework on your own? I can understand needing help but most of the questions are just the problems you have straight from the damn book or worksheet. For f_ck's sake, someone agree with me here.

Where can I find Prentice hall geometry answers?
Q. It is the 2008 california edition. I could look in the back of the book but they don't give us the book just the worksheets.

A. Try your local book store. They have books and tapes for language learning, that come with workbooks.

Do you have to actually purchase a curriculum to homeschool?
Q. I am looking to homeschool next year but I was wondering do you have to purchase curriculums like abeka, or Bob Jones etc. to homeschool or can you purchase workbooks at book stores and print worksheets off the internet and use the library? I am on a very tight budget. I am looking for the best way to homeschool that won't break me. I live in GA and I am plannig to homeschool 2nd grade, kindergarten, and preschool. Any advise would be great!

A. Absolutely check your states requirements first. My home state asks what our curriculum is, but looking into it that is not something we are required to tell them. We are fortunate in my area to have a great library that has ready made unit studies and they allow homeschooling parents to obtain (with proof of homeschooling) a teachers library card which allows us to keep things checked out longer, and it also allows us check the unit studies out for our home schooling. I am going to be homeschooling a second grader and a kindergartner this next year also.. and for my kindergartner I have bought all kinds of work books at Wal-Mart and the dollar stores, they are getting them in now so visit as many as possible.
