Please Give me a Concept / Chart about the branches of physics?
Q. i need a good chart about this topic. asap.
Asked by Ronnel - Wed Jun 6 11:34:45 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The chart I like divides the branches of physics by length/energy scale From highest energy to lowest energy: Particle Physics Nuclear Physics Atomic Physics Plasma Physics Solid State Physics Astrophysics Csomology tends to bridge the gap between particle physics (highest energy/smallest scale phenomenon)and astrophysics (lowest energy/largest scales), so you can draw the chart as a loop if you want. If you wanted to, you could fill in more detailed sub-branches with a list like this one:

A. it can be divided into two categories 1) classical physics which includes stuff like: electrodynamics -> Maxwells equations mechanics -> Newtons Laws thermodynamics and statistical physics -> the 4 laws of thermodynamics and maxwell-boltzman statistics special relativity -> the lorentz transformation optics -> wave mechanics in the classical limits, huygens principle, 2) modern physics which includes: quantum physics and all the stuff that includes like nuclear physics, quantum optics, quantum electrodynamics, quantum chromodynamics, gauge theory, bose-einstein and fermi-dirac statistics etc. some people consider general relativity to be a part of modern physics in the future there will likely be another branch, a neomodern theory… [cont.]

How many branches in physics?
Q. How many branches in physics?
Asked by JAMES - Fri Jul 20 16:17:09 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. What do you mean by branches? Classical Mechanics Optics Thermodynamics Electro-magnetism Quantum Mechanics Plasma Physics Particle Physics Biophysics Astrophysics are some branches of physics. Of course the number of branches will depend on how specific you want to get - and that can end up in a semantic argument about which "branches" are subsumed under which other branch. So don't worry about counting the number - but you can find out what sorts of topics and general groupings of physics there are. Wikipedia provides a list of physics branches and subbranches. Of course - each of these branches dovetails with other of the branches at some level. Some like to believe that all of the "branches" are manifestations of one, over-arching [cont.]

A. Physics Physics is the study of matter, energy and the interactions of the two. The fundamental branches of physics: classical mechanics electromagnetism (including optics) relativity thermodynamics quantum mechanics astronomy electromagnetism Some of the more popular or modern branches of physics: Astro and space physics (study of stars, planets, black holes, etc.) geophysics (study of like earthquakes and plate tectonics) nuclear physics particle physics medical physics biophysics, and quantum physics, which is mostly theoretical Physics can be divided into two main branches. These are Mechanics(The study of the behavior of forces and objects acting due to those forces), and Electricity and Magnetism, which delves into the… [cont.]

Physics and its branches QUESTION..?
Q. Nuclear physics - is the field of physics that studies the building blocks and interactions of atomic nuclei. Mechanics - is the branch of physics concerned with the study of motion and force. Optics and Light- *optics - is the study of the behavior and properties of light. *light - in physics, the term light sometimes refers to electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, whether visible or not. now my question is... How can i differentiate those three(Nuclear Physics, Mechanics, and Optics and light) to WAVES.. Waves - The study of energy traveling through a medium. It is all related to Physics...can anyone differentiate even just one?? it can be a really big big help to me. .please...tnx a lot!

Asked by VaRdA - Thu May 25 11:24:55 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. particle physics is all about sub-atomic particles, looking for new particles and fundamental particles if we can find them. Also looking to find the theory of everthing stuff. atomic or nuclear physics is all about atoms, radioactive decay, nuclear stability. particle physics > atomic physics in my opinion :)

What are all of the Math, Physics, and Quantum Theory branches?
Q. I know what the College courses are. I started from Pre-Algebra but I am now taking Trigonometry. 1) Pre Algebra 2) Algebra 1 3) Algebra 2 4) College Algebra 5) Pre Calculus/ Trigonometry (Not the same semester though) 6) Calculus 1 7) Calculus 2 8) Calculus 3 9) Linear Algebra (Engineering majors/Phys/Sci) 10) Differential Equations (same) 11) Partial Differential Equations (same) Now, even though I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering, I've taken an extreme interest in Quantum Theory. This suggests that my major will no longer require math and I will be given a choice to either quit math, or continue for no credit. First of all, Engineering is the best way for me to make a living. However, it seems that if I go beyond… [cont.]

Q. can I just get a general physics degree without needing to actually major in a specific branch of physics?
Asked by dee-dee - Wed Feb 4 17:02:50 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Absolutely. But in the course of your studies, you might find a specific direction you want to pursue, and then you could begin to take courses that would prepare you for the graduate courses that are required for your more advanced degrees. I think any career in physics, except teaching at pre-university levels, would require at least a masters degree. But even if you did not go further, physics gives one an excellent mental preparation for any even slightly technical field, since it integrates a mathematical approach with one of basic human reasoning.
