What ways are there to combine a business major with IT?
Q. What IT minors are available for business majors and which would really make sense? What ways are there to major in business and still have somewhat of an IT background and is it really beneficial? What jobs require both, without neglecting business knowledge? Thank you.

A. Minor in what ever selections you have that would familiarize yourself with applications to apply your business skills with financial software and other business applications for Oracle or SAP. The biggest deficit we have right now with consultants are in the financial accounting area for integrating s/w apps to systems. We pay well into 100K for folks with those skill sets. I can't find folks to perform this work...so it's in HUGE demand!

How can a business major be applied to a career in environmental preservation?
Q. Helping to solve the world's environmental problems has always been a childhood dream(i.e. global warming, pollution, etc). This year, my senior year in highschool, I found that I enjoy business administration and economics. I did some research and eco.org says that "environmental work is inherently interdisciplinary - involving science, politics, cultural studies, economics, management" Does anyone know what "envrionmental" jobs a business administration/economics major can be applied to? I'm also considering a double major/minor in environmental science or a physical science. Any feedback or advice is appreciated! =]

A. The education teaches you how to manipulate business resources to maximize business objectives. If you are in the driver's seat, you can chose to have a green perspective in your business objectives. Most CEOS are very green in their outlooks, contrary to Hollywood's depictions of them. Exxon surely didn't want the Valdez to hit the rocks. But it took a very green CEO to put as much effort into the cleanup as they did. You can be part of the new generation that does it right and gets blamed for not doing it right by Hollywood...

A. Most business majors are analytical so Geology is the route to go since it follows known rules while Biology is very ambiguous and up to interpretation.

what business major should I study in order to become a CEO of a fortune 500 one day?
Q. There are many majors within business and I wanted to know which specific major should I pursue to attain my dreams?

A. MBA for certain. However, becoming a CEO isn't really a case of what you know, but who you know. Also, with the definite socialist direction that our government is taking, you can bet that CEO salaries will be firmly capped by the time you get the education and experience needed to be one. Also, you can start your own company, grow it into a large conglomerate and share the rule of the world with the rest of the money men.

Q. what classes would a business major take? or what classes would a marketing major take? and what is the level of difficulty of those classes?
Asked by future nurse - Tue Sep 9 18:30:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on what school you go to, some schools that specialize in business offer more in dept courses than other ones. Some basics are Intro to business, Business Communication, Microeconomics, Macroeconomic, Marketing Management, etc. Some courses are harder than other because of the teacher, but if you are more skilled in math or anything else you will have an advantage, depending on the course and obviously do better.

do i have to major in music business to work for a record label?
Q. i live in california and i want to go to either uc santa cruz or san diego but i want to work for a record label. i know some colleges have music business majors but not the ones i want to go to. can i just major in business administration and get a job at a label?
Asked by - Tue Sep 2 03:03:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's way more beneficial to go to a school with a Music Business or Entertainment Business major but I have some friends who have gotten jobs at record labels without having those degrees. The trick is to major in a business or marketing class and apply for an internship at a record label. Once you get the internship they'll teach you all you need to know about the business and if they like you they'll hire you. Once you get hired you work your way up the food chain, make connections, and network. In this kind of business it's all about who you know. Start with the internship and make friends. Hope that helps! ~Mark Lim www.PoisonApple.com

If a college offers degrees in music and in business, could you be a music business major?
Q. This fall I will be applying to schools and am 80% sure that I want to be a music business major. One school that I've looked at has, on their website, music business as an actual study program, none of the other schools do. ---but they do offer degrees in business and degrees in music. Can you mix and match like that? Or just because they have business, and music, they may not have other essential classes for that particular career (but an independent learning class or internship may be possible?) Thanks!!!

A. Disregard the 1st person who answered- there's very specific steps taken when working with any college major that involves music. I'm a music major so I know their system. The field that incorporates what you're looking for is music technology. No matter what field of music you take, know that you will have to go in Fall of your your senior year where ever you want to go and audition on a major instrument or voice. everyone has to- the composers, the music therapists, the performance majors, music education majors, the general music study majors. They'll have you play or sing 2 pieces, you'll have to take a theory and rhythm test, and they'll make you sing (even if you go in on an instrument). You're schedule will be 11-14 classes a… [cont.]

A. Try getting an internship this year while you're still at school. The experience will be good on your resume, and help establish some context for your future job search. Try calling the Chamber of Commerce to get to know who the key employers in the area are. Also, check with your school's career center -- they will have information on employers and will probably have some relationships established. Also, ask your professors for ideas. They will likely also have some contacts who can make some introductions for you. Good luck!!

Asked by Jocelyn - Mon Apr 7 16:51:32 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I picked Entrepreneurship because I am older and would like to run my own business. It would depend upon what interests you? Are you good with graphs...then economics. If numers then accounting and finance. Administration or Management if that is what you would want to do. Go with your strengths. You could begin the business core to get some of those credits out of the way, then possibly you might like advertising and marketing, or drawn to human resouces. Take care of the business core classes...by doing that you will meet other students and hear thier stories. You will also be meeting some professors that you may like and be drawn to thier studies. Good luck. Dave

A. Probably Finance or Accounting. As Ranto said, accounting would have more instant gratification, but finance would pay off in the long run. You can also do a little bit more with a degree in finance than accounting. But graduates with either degree are in demand.
