How do you get into an undergraduate business program?
Q. I'm looking to get a Bachelor's degree in Business administration, but the university website said I needed to be enrolled already in their school. Do I first get into the school and then apply for the business program?
Asked by secretasianman - Sun Nov 2 06:43:11 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Each university sets its own admissions policy. Most universities offer business as a four year program. At those schools you apply to the business program as a Freshman. At the better schools (e.g., Wharton), it is difficult to transfer in after you enroll at another school in the university. Many schools require you to start in another college at the university and apply as a Junior. At the more competitive schools (UC-Berkeley, for example) getting into the business program is very competitive.

Does University of SF have a good business program?
Q. What do you think of its business program? Is it one of the "higher regarded" business schools or is it just average? I want to transfer to a school that most employers consider to be above average or high average. so then its considered average? you think its better than SF State or SJSU?

A. I don't think it's very highly regarded. Santa Clara is considered a fairly good school for business.

A. When I was a junior in high school, I got some pamphlets from Penn State. They seemed to have a pretty impressive business program for undergrads, especially those majoring in marketing. Michigan State has a pretty good business program as well. University of Michigan has one of the best undergraduate business programs in the country.

How difficult would a business degree program be for a creative, artistic person?
Q. I am currently an English major who likes writing, but now I'm thinking about making the switch to Business. I do have some interest in business, though not as much as English. But I know that the business degree will provide more job opportunities. And I can still take part in my creative endevours on the side. But I'm wondering whether or not creative types struggle and have trouble in the business degree program
Asked by N B - Mon Jun 18 20:07:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Well, this kind of choice is a really personal thing. If you are truly creative, different and individualistic you will probably struggle with a business program. You'll probably feel bored. Why not keep up with English and follow your heart. You can always take a few business classes on the side just to try them out or pursue this as a minor. One you graduate people don't seem to care about the exact degree in business--they are interested in your reliability and ability to work with others.

Who has a better business (MBA) program, Pitt or George Washington University?
Q. I am trying to narrow down selections for colleges, and i am most likely going to major in business. I was just wondering which school (pitt, or GW) had the better business program. Thanks
Asked by Adam D - Wed Feb 11 22:42:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Both are adequate programs. Neither is what I would call an elite program. GW is the better program. BusinessWeek ranks it as a second tier program -- which puts it in the top 50, but not the top 30. Pitt is outside the top 50. If you can get into them, you probably have a shot at a program that is in the top 30.

Q. I want to make my own business cards but don't know what program to use. I would like to find a free program to download that is user friendly.

A. I would reccomend that you not go this route. If you plan on using those perforated business card sheets, don't. They dont look professional at all. It is cheaper to order them from VistaPrint. You get 250 professional looking business cards for just $5.25 shipping. Check out my article about the company

Does UC Davis have a really good Business or Economics program?
Q. I am trying to compare Univeristy of Maryland's business program and UC Davis', which school is better in terms of the business program. I want to major in International Business and U of Maryland has such a major but UCD doesn't. Does anyone know if UCD has similar major? thanks

A. Davis has a good business school -- but it is for MBA only. Maryland's B-school is much better. UC-Davis does have an excellent economics program (as do all the UCs). However, Maryland has a top 20 economics department. UC-Berkeley has better programs than Maryland -- but Maryland dominates any other UC undergrad program in business.

Do I have to major in a business field during undergrad to get into a good business grad program?
Q. Is it necessary to major in like marketing or finance during undergrad if I want to get into a good business grad program? Or can I major in something I can excel very well at like english?
Asked by christina51189 - Mon Dec 3 16:55:33 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Not necessarily. Some business schools give preferential spots to business undergrads, others don't. But realize that a business related undergrad will help you maximize the benefits of an MBA. Check the websites of business schools you're interested in. Might I suggest the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. Go Green Wave!

A question regarding business program in high school?
Q. I'm in a business tech prep program in high school and I'm going to be interviewed for a Shadow Program in Pershing on May 8. What's ironic is that I don't like business but I'm in it anyways because my brother wants me to follow in his footsteps. But I want to become a family doctor or pediatrician and I can't change magnets because I'm in my second year. Is still going to be useful for me when applying for medical school or applying for college?
Asked by Kimberly - Fri Apr 27 20:36:00 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I am sure that some business courses could only help you getting ready for medical school. Busienss writing, economics, statistics, busienss math, accounting, entrepreneurship, business law, and marketing could only add to your knowlege when you become a doctor. I would take communication courses in the business program to get yourself comfortable in presenting in front of students and professors.

How much experience is absolutely needed to get into a top MBA program (Business school)?
Q. I would like to go to a top Business school/MBA program but I only have a 1-2 years of professional work experience. I have read that work experience is a very important admissions factor for MBA programs and the average student has around 4-5 years experience. I also read that most people who apply straight from undergraduate school have a harder time getting in. I haven't however; read how difficult it is to get in with 1-2 years of experience. I know it depends on the school but in general is 1-2 years of work experience a huge disadvantage when applying to Business school? Thanks

A. I got into 4 business schools, all were FEMBAs or executive MBAs and all are in the top 15ish (Berkeley/Columbia, Wharton, UCLA, USC). I have 12 years work and 9 years management experience, got a 740 GMAT, my undergrad GPA was 3.4 and my Master's GPA was 3.8 (both top 5 engineering schools). Don't know about full-time MBA. Probably won't be so heavily centered around work experience but you should have at least a 750+ GMAT and 3.8 gpa or higher if you have less than 4-5 years mgmt experience, I would imagine. (No offense, you better check the grammar on your essays better than you did your question. They're unforgiving about that...)
