Two electrodes are placed in a calcium chloride solution and a potential difference is maintained between them?
Q. Two electrodes are placed in a calcium chloride solution and a potential difference is maintained between them. If 6.4 1016 Ca2+ ions and 6.2 1016 Cl- ions per second move in opposite directions through an imaginary area between the electrodes, what is the current in the solution?

How do you prove that a chemical reaction occured between Calcium Chloride and Sodium Carbonate?
Q. I did an experiment dissolving sodium carbonate and calcium chloride into water, and then mixing them together. There was this milky mixture that seemed to have formed ontop of water. I'm not quite sure how to prove a chemical reaction occured because there is no precipitate, temperature or colour change and there was apparently no gas produced.
Asked by Melody Y - Tue Mar 4 20:45:32 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. there should be precipitate in the milky mixture since the 2 combine is an ionic precipitation or double decomposition to make solid calcium carbonate and soluble sodium chloride

A. Are you asking dissociation of CaCl2 in water, seperately from sodium bicarbonate? Or are they in the same solution?

How do I get calcium chloride residue off my concrete garage floor? I've washed it down over 15 times!!?
Q. The morons at ODOT decided to add Calcium Chloride to their road salt mix here in NE Ohio over the winter. It has penetrated the pores in my garage floor and won't wash out. This stuff is extremely highly corrosive to steel. it should be banned and OUTLAWED!!! as there are more enviromentally friendly substitutes out there.

A. Go to your local tile floor covering store ask for acidic ceramic grout cleaner. It comes in a pink can ,its a powder just add water and that should do it. Nother way is go to a pool company and get liquid acid and instead of putting it in the pool clean the floor with it . (Warning)Be careful use gloves and a mask!... Just submit your Estimate fax, e-mail , or if you don't care about others viewing your estimate just go ahead and upload a copy of your estimate. Can i use Calcium Chloride to help absorb moisture?
Q. I had a pipe leak in my house. All water has been removed but moisture still remains. i have seen where DampRid has calcium chloride as one of thier ingredients. The water got on my floors and baseboards thats where i need the moisture absorbed from. And table salt is sodium chloride
Asked by brnidgrl - Mon Feb 9 19:44:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Calcium chloride is table salt. Table Salt corrodes steel pipe and many other metals. Calcium Chloride alone is not a solution to absorbing moisture. DampRid has many other chemicals that work in conjunction with Calcium Chloride. I would NOT put table salt in pipes.

How does calcium chloride remove water vapor from the air inside a container having an airtight seal.?
Q. The calcium chloride uses a desiccator to do this. How does this happen???
Asked by 3dwade3 - Tue Feb 19 18:06:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Any number of substances can act as a desiccator (water absorber). Even in an airtight container there are minor air currents and over a long enough period of time the water vapor in those currents passes over the desiccator and it takes the water out. The desiccator has more of an affinity for the water than the air.

A. I am sorry, but this probably is due to the reason for doing the experiment. I think the reason depends on the experiments.

Why/how does calcium chloride affect the rate rennet clots milk (cheese making)?
Q. I recently completed an experiment for my AS level coursework and found that increasing the amount of calcium chloride in a rennet (i used fromase) + milk solution resulted in increased clot formation. I have looked all over the internet but couldn't find any explanations. Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

How can I make my calcium chloride anhydrous?
Q. I have recently purchased 7kg of calcium chloide fro a science experiment, but after calculating it's density I found that it is the dihydrate form! I suspect that like with most salts it can be dehydrated with external heat, is this true? Also how much? (just the temperature or if you know it the calories/mole) Also at the moment I do not have access to a suitable vaccuum pump, so that is not an option. Please no links to wiki

A. 130+ C until constant weight should do you fine. If its really the dihydrate, you're going to have lots of water, so make sure your oven is vented.

Asked by Sujay S - Sat Sep 27 06:00:18 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I wasn't aware that it did. My understanding of CaCl2 is that it is quite stable and does not decompose to calcium and chlorine. That would make stockpiles of calcium chloride used for road deicing very dangerous. But since CaCl2 does not spontaneously decompose in air to form chlorine, I think that the snow crews and the general public are safe.

A. Let me preface this by saying that I don't have a calculator near me and I don't care to use the one on my computer. X means multiply, x is a variable. I don't like to use x's when I use X's, so I probably won't, but in case I do. A, B, C, D, etc. will be Variables. ___ .237 (mols / L) X 1.54 L = A mols (This will be how many mols AgNO3 were present) A X ( 2 AgCl / 2 AgNO3) X (143.32 g mol-1) = B (The answer) ___ A X (1 mol CaCl2 / 2 mol AgNO3) = C (CaCl2 # of mol) C / 3.14 L = D (the answer)
