How to stop telemartketing and debt companies calling my landline?
Q. There are a few debt companies and telemarketers call my house landline everyday. We don't know the people that the debt companies are calling. We registered on the "national no call list" and I called them back several times and ask them to remove our numbers. But they still keep calling. I am so frustrated. Is there punishment for this spam calls?

A. You can visit and search for the telephone number that came up on your call ID. In many cases, caller information is provided by a user and you can then file a complaint with the FCC. You can read more about how to file complaints here:

Why is calling Bush or Obama a Nazi legal free speech, but calling your neighbor a Nazi is illegal defamation?
Q. In other words, lets say I printed a news article calling you a Nazi and saying that your views were comparable to Nazi policies. Isn't that considered libel and defamatory? So then, why is it considered free speech to do the same thing to political figures?
Asked by Samian's Fifteenth Account - Fri Sep 25 21:23:35 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Generally, a public official can only prevail on this type of claim if the statement is made despite knowing it to be false or with reckless disregard for the truth (malice). The Supreme Court announced the actual malice standard which has to be met before reports about public officials or public figures can be considered to be defamation. It is an extremely high burden of proof on the plaintiff - as a public official - to establish actual malice. This standard comes from the 1964 decision New York Times Co. v. Sullivan.

A. Actually you can...But the most effective thing to do..Is to forward your cell phone to a local police department after a few calls through to them, they'll stop calling. You can contact your service provider and for a charge they can trace that number some cell phone companies can even block a particular number of someone you think it might be. However, they may require a police report. Pick up your phone with out making a sound a listen for discernible noises of who or where the person that is calling might be. Transfer your cell phone to a land line an block restricted numbers. How do I call a second number without three-way calling on my cell phone?
Q. When making a call on my cell phone, I would like to make a second call or call a second number without using three-way calling. I have seen articles that say this is possible but do not give the instructions. Thanks!
Asked by Casey V - Fri Jan 11 00:47:55 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's kind of like making a call on a house phone. In order for the calls to be linked for 3 way you have to switch between the calls and link them. So if you dont want 3 way dont switch between the calls. While your on a call, punch in the other number you want to call. The number is displayed on the screen then press send. The phone will automatically switch to the 2nd line and you will be on that call, no 3 way.

Asked by childrenproblems - Wed Nov 19 05:35:06 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I'm guessing that the database is supplied to you by your employer, in which case the info is probably covered under the data protection act. You as an employee (albeit self employed) of the company are permitted to use the data for the company only. However, saying that, is it at all likely that anyone is going to question where you got their details from? Depending on what the database is (individuals, companies, etc), some info is much easier to obtain than others - so whilst it may not be exactly legal, it is down to you to decided from your circumstances whether you are likely to be found out.

A. www.donotcall.gov If you're on this list it's illegal (in the US) for businesses you don't have an association with to call you. i.e. if you've ordered something from them, gave them your phone number, etc. they can still call you. And politicians exepted themselves from the law, so they can still call you. Charities are also exempted. It takes 31 days from when you register before it becomes illegal to call you. But I noticed a drop off after about 2 weeks. You can also ask callers "Please put me on your do not call list". Legally they're required to, though it's hard to prosecute.

A. Call your mobile phone company and ask that all calls and txts from that number be blocked. They will most likely block the number for you.
