What are the components of complex computer system?
Q. The vendor delivered product which has only executable code and very small user's manual. No source code, no programming documentation. He reciewed over 2 mln dollars for that. The contract did not list what components he should deliver. Can it be safly assumed that any complex system have to have all the components. Are there any industry standarts?

A. Well. Your question is not really complete. Was it hardware that was delivered such as a mainframe, or switch, or router? or was it SOFTWARE, code written to do something specific on a computer, something written to work on a PC, or a mainframe, or a Microsoft network server, or netware server, etc. etc. I am going to assume, it was only software, and was written to run in Windows on a network of some type, as this is the most common situation. I have over 30 years of experience as a Network engineer. I have been a programmer / developer, hardware engineer, service technician, network administrator, project manager, designer, etc. etc. The Short answer is hiring developers to come up with something is a ripoff, designed to make them… [cont.]

What are the most important components of computer if you are building one?
Q. I know CPU and RAM are very important, as well as the video card. But are fans and cooling components important too? Can anyone recommend me a good cooling units and other good components?
Asked by Mr. LOL - Tue Mar 24 10:04:15 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you are building your own computer, I think it's quite important to select all the components carefully... If you go for cheap stuff it will either hold the whole machine back or fail earlier than the rest. Having said that, the key things are the Power Supply, CPU, Motherboard and RAM - these things are critical. After that comes the Graphics card (this is more critical if gaming), and drives (hard disks and CD/DVD)... A well ventilated case and good cooling fans is a must, although medern CPUs do run quite cool if you don't overclock them. Thermaltake generally make good case cooling solutions (I think) and for the CPU cooler, look here:

What are the components or elements that makes the ink of a highlighter?
Q. the highlighters are the one you use to highlight the important details on your books. I noticed that high lighters' ink doesnt fade or wash off like ordinary pen ink in water... just wondering if I can invent a pen someday using the same components of a highlighter and change the color and turn it to black, blue or red. So that in situations when you accidentally soak your notebook with important details, it will never fade or wash off.

Q. I am looking the components that allegedly caused a ship to disappear. I just need a list. For instance, I know magnate coils were possibly involved to create a magnate field, however, I don't what else they used or may not have used. A. OK, well you will find it or something like it at www.skycraftsurplus.com but it is better to go to the physical store in Winter Park Florida just north of Orlando and micky. This is a truly fun place and you can find things from the 40's forward but not too forward. You do know that was a story (well mostly) right . Don't forget the vacuum tubes you will need lots of vacuum tubes, big ones, very very big ones. Get maybe 5 Klystron tubes, you know just for fun.

Where can I find most electronic components and wire?
Q. I have recently started electronics and have bought a breadboard and soldering iron. What is a store where I can find most wires and components (I've tried radioshack no wire there). A real store please, not an online one. Also, what type of wire should I use for general circuits?
Asked by pyropax - Fri Mar 7 14:23:54 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. electronic stores are not very common at all, i would say a good 90% of electronic hobbyists order offline. radioshack is not a very good supply store, not only are they expensive (99 cents for 5 resistors compared to a penny a piece at most online stores) but they dont carry lot of parts. like somebody else suggested, if you have live in one of the nine staes with frys in it then excellent, but if you only have radioshacks (like me) then online is your best option. these sites are the ones i use, and are suggested in the "electronics projects for dummies" book, they are very reliable, safe, and decently priced futurlec.com (my fav) jameco.com digikey.com (a bit hard to find what your looking for but good prices) outpost.com (frys… [cont.]

What is the mathematical relationship between probability of failure and number of components in a system?
Q. Supposing a system is made up of a number of components, any of which may fail. If any component fails, the system fails. Mathematically expressed, how does the number of components affect the probability of failure? Or how does it affect the mean time between failures?
Asked by Beth Johnson - Wed Mar 7 09:19:15 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Operating probability = 1 - failure probability Lets denote that as r = 1 - p Operating probability of a system = operating prob of component A * operating prob of comp B * ... So in a system of n components, the system's operating probability R is given as: R = (1-p)^n where " ^n " means raised to the nth power Thus failure rate of the system, = 1 - R = 1 - (1-p)^n and MTBF = 1 / = 1 / [ 1 - (1-p)^n ]

How do you seperate all five components?
Q. In class, we are doing a separation lab where we have to separate salt, iron filings, sand, PDB, and sulfur. All of these five components have been mixed togther to make a single mixture that weighs one gram. Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure on how to seperate all five components? If you have any ideas, then just please answer. Thanks! =] We are actually going to attempt to do this lab. It's worth four grades! So instead of criticizing and saying that all five components aren't fit to be together, try to help!

A. 1. Use a magnet to pull out the Fe. 2. Add water to dissolve the salt and separate that from the rest which are insoluble. You can recover the salt by evaporating the water. Here's were it gets interesting. The others are all more dense than water, so noting is easily separated based on density. Is this simply an exercise or are you actually going to attempt this? I would avoid giving students paradichlorobenzene since it is a suspected carcinogen and separating it and sulfur would seem likely to produce some undesirable substances. Given enough time paradichlorobenzene will simply undergo sublimation and disappear. Heating it will probably hasten the process. Sulfur is soluble in carbon disulfide or will react with methane to… [cont.]

It holds electronic components and interconnects, as well as physical connectors (sockets, slots, and headers) into which other computer components may be inserted or attached. Most motherboards include, at a minimum: sockets in which one or more CPUs are installed[2] slots into which the system's main memory is installed (typically in the form of DIMM modules containing DRAM chips) a chipset which forms an interface between the CPU's front-side bus, main memory, and peripheral buses non-volatile memory chips (usually Flash ROM in modern motherboards) containing the system's firmware or BIOS a clock generator which produces the system clock signal to synchronize the… [cont.]

What are the efficiencies of the geothermal heat pump components?
Q. I know the theoretical heat pump efficiency, but I need to know the individual efficiencies of the components such as the "motor" that moves the refrigerant and the electrical transmission efficiency. I can't find this info on the web. If you can direct me to a source as well as explain it here, I would be grateful.
Asked by Aaron F - Fri Jul 3 18:57:34 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The overall efficiency is totally dependant on the material to be heated or cooled and the source or sink that provides the thermal difference that the heat pump uses. Factors like the thickness of the pipes that go into deep thermal wells are dependant on the corrosion potential of the source. Thin pipes transfer quicker with higher efficiency. Thick last longer. A motor that transfers fluid down a few hundred feet into a water well will be rated differently from a pump that has to go down a thousand feeet. A local beer distributer had two water wells put in that included cooling plumbing for his refrigerent system. His electric bill was cut in half. Pumps will have efficiency rating listed for many applications. Heat exchangers will have… [cont.]

What are the magnitudes of the horizontal and vertical components?
Q. A stone is catapulted at time t = 0, with an initial velocity of magnitude 20.0 m.s and at an agnel of 40.0degrees above the horizontal. What are the magnitudes of the (a) horizontal and (b) vertical components of its displacement from the catapult site at t = 1.10 seconds ? Repeat for the (c) horizontal and (d) vertical components at t = 1.80 seconds, and for the (e) horizontal and (f) vertical components at t = 5.00 seconds.
Asked by bryon_barker - Sun Jan 27 21:33:16 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. so, v is 20 at 40 degrees the horizontal speed=20cos40 the vertical speed=20sin40 so, after 1.1 seconds, it would move 20cos40 x1.1 meters horizontally. just repeat this for 1.8 and 5 seconds for vertical movement, you know the initial speed (20sin40). you know acceleration (-9.8), you know time (1.1), and you need to find distance. So use the kinematic equation with those 4 variables to calculate it d=vt+1/2 at^2 sub it all in and calculate d. repeat for t=1.8 and 5
