What should I know about Denmark to Canada emigration procedures?
Q. Specifically, what does the law says about procedures to follow for a Danish citizen moving permanently to Canada? Where should he start? What papers does he need, from Canada, and Denmark? What can he do to get a Visa quickly, or to pass the citizenship test when he gets to Canada? Would it accelerate the entire procedure by obtaining a marriage license while in Canada? I have heard of the concept of an international "invitation" that a citizen can send to someone in another country, to fast-track their passage into the inviter's country. Is this the case for Canada and Denmark?

A. Here is a Canadian site dealing with immigration to Canada: The site includes a newcomers introduction to Canada and links to the different classes of immigration. The following link has the various immigration forms: There are no specific procedures (at least from Canada's standpoint) for immigrating from specific countries such as Denmark. Being able to speak & write both English and French (this is a huge plus), no criminal record, having job skills that are needed in Canada all count towards how quickly one's application will be processed. I'm not aware of any particular individual "invitations" although each province has their own "nomination" programs. Specifically, if the individual has certain skills that are of need in… [cont.]

What is Canada doing to protect Canadians against the H1N1 virus?
Q. The Public Health Agency of Canada has listed this on its website (last modified April 26) "Vaccine A vaccine is any preparation intended to produce immunity to a disease by stimulating the production of antibodies. Canada has a plan for a vaccine to be produced domestically if a pandemic occurs, which will take about six months once the virus is identified. Enough pandemic vaccine will be produced to cover all Canadians." Now that the virus has been declared a pandemic, what action is the government taking?
Asked by Denim - Tue Jun 16 20:21:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 3 Comments

A. Canada is not taking the pandemic seriously. Five students got the H1N1 at Coquitlam-area schools in BC. None of the schools were shut down. H1N1 is the same strain as the 1918 Spanish Flu. Look at the fatality rates of every know flu pandemic Asiatic (Russian) Flu 1889 90 1 million died, possibly H2N2 Spanish Flu 1918 20 to 40 million died, H1N1 Asian Flu 1957 58 1 to 1.5 million died, H2N2 Hong Kong Flu 1968 69 0.75 to 1 million died, H3N2 So we know at least one million people will die if there is a flu pandemic this fall and they don't want to close a school because of final exams? Canada should be cancelling the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics which is scheduled right in the peak of flu season. Washing hands is good. … [cont.]

What is the IRS in Canada? What certification does it take to prepare taxes for Canada?
Q. Also what does it take to become a CPA in Canada? Who is the advisory board for CPA's in Canada?
Asked by Captain - Mon Mar 10 05:16:00 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Our equivalent of the IRS is the Canadian Revenue Agency, the CRA Truthfully, it doesn't take any certification to do taxes (some tax places hire people off the street, and give them some training) although there are courses available. CPA is an American designation, but it is respected in Canada. Many Canadians get one, and you can get a job with one (the US is our biggest trading partner, after all). There are three formally recognized financial designations in Canada: Chartered Accountant (CA); Certified General Accountant (CGA); and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

Canada is a west east country trying to survive in a north south continent. What does it mean?
Q. It might be because the US has more varied temperatures than Canada because Canada is more narrow and stretches west to east but i think it has something to do with Canada's landform regions. Thank you.
Asked by Hiba A - Sat Oct 18 19:21:23 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The geography is very similar. The Rockies are in the same place, the most fertile land is in the same place, between the Rockies and the Great Lakes. The only major difference is the Canadian Shield, which limits agriculture in the East, but it makes up for it with easy access to minerals. I stand by my first answer. Climate limits development to the north so it has to spread east-west.

Why Canada 1974 stamp collection is much more expensive than others?
Q. 1974 Canada stamp collection is 250$. So expensive, why?
Asked by Boren Z - Thu Nov 8 19:11:47 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the collection is just the single stamps that Canada issued in 1974, I don't know why it'd be so expensive. The single stamps together would probably be worth about all together $20 unused at most. Unless they're full sheets, error stamps, or something very unusual, that sounds like too much money.

How long do cancer patients in Canada have to wait before starting treatment?
Q. Honest question. I've read that if you get cancer in Canada and can't afford to go outside Canada for treatment, you're pretty much dead. What's the average wait time between starting treatment after being diagnosed with cancer in Canada?
Asked by Non-Redneck - Tue Apr 7 14:25:27 2009 - - 18 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have had cancer twice - the first time was 20 years ago. The last time was a different type of cancer and that was diagnosed 4 years ago. I waited a month with the first cancer but only because I did not want to go to a different city. The last time, I was diagnosed on Thursday and was operated on two days later on a Saturday. Obviously, I recovered both times, so... Don't believe everything you hear. In fact, if it is coming from the status quo in the States and has anything to do with Universal medicare as practiced in Canada, you might be well advised not to listen to it at all.

How did Canada come to be a founding member of the League of Nations?
Q. I need to know how Canada came to be one of the founding members of the league of nations and what were the Government's first actions as founding members. Please and thank you.
Asked by booya - Mon Jul 14 16:01:35 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As the League of Nations came out of the Treaty of Versailles, the nations who were on the winning side of the First World War became the first nations to join the organization; the exception was the United States, as the Senate refused to ratify the treaty. Germany was forbidden to join the League and the new Soviet Union was also excluded, as they made a separate peace with Germany in 1917. The same thing happened when the Allied nations signed the United Nations charter during the Second World War. Canada became a charter member of that organization also. However, only one person was a signatory of both the League of Nations and United Nations charters: Jan Smuts of South Africa.

A. Canadian universities don't vary much. You will get the same quality of education no matter which university you decide to go to. I have to say that it's even hard for a Canadian citizen to get accepted into med school in Canada. Getting into med school in Canada isn't easy and even a lot of Canadians end up leaving to do their studies abroad. You can study in any undergraduate course in any Canadian university that accepts you, you just pay higher tuition as an international student. An international student doing an undergrad and an MD in Canada, you're looking at about 500K over the course of 8 years. Also, it's risky, because even if you get an A+ average and a 99th percentile MCAT with amazing ECs, you are by no means guaranteed a… [cont.]

A. You could try checking with a local service club, such as the Lions, Rotary, etc. Some of them collect the tabs to sell as scrap aluminum (the Lions throughout Alberta do, but I'm not sure about the rest of the country.)

How can we bring our handcapped child to Canada?
Q. We obtained recently our Canadian citizenship through the resident permanent procedure, however our first child, who was born with spina bifida and is handicapped, remained in our country of origin. We have never declared him in front of the Canada immigration, since he has always lived in a government medical centre for children with special needs. Now, after communicating with several lawyers, we realized that we violated the Canada immigration law. We would greatly appreciate any advise of how we could possibly bring him to Canada.

A. the only possible way to do this is if you do it through H&C. you must also provide information about how you can support your son's illness when he arrives here and build a case around the fact that he needs to be with you.

How to return a package from Canada to US?
Q. I bought a game off eBay from the United States and it was shipped by USPS. I received it and the game ended up not working properly. I contacted the seller on eBay and they told me to send it back. I was planning on sending it back in the same package they gave me. Can I just mark "return to sender" and mail it back or do I have to pay extra postage? I live in Canada so would I use Canada Post or USPS? I'm confused!
Asked by gisele - Thu May 29 09:10:37 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. You can't say "Return to Sender". That only works if you have never opened the original package (because it's something that has been sent to you by mistake, for example). You have to pay the postage to send it back. Bring it to a local post office where you live and they'll tell you how much postage you need to pay.
