Career is a term defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an individual's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)". It is usually considered to pertain to remunerative work (and sometimes also formal education). The etymology of the term is somewhat ironic in that it comes from the Latin word carrera, which means race (as in "rat race," a pejorative implying the opposite of a useful career). A career is mostly seen as a course of successive situations that make up a person's occupation. One can have a sporting career or a musical career without being a professional athlete or musician, but most frequently "career" in the 20th century referenced the series of jobs or positions by which one earned one's money. My current career paid the bills while I was in school, but I would really like to take this opportunity to get a new career. What kinds of jobs are available for communication majors? I would really like to use the skills I learned to help people instead of push paper. Any ideas? Asked by Curiosity - Thu Mar 1 13:10:51 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I graduated with a comm degree and now I'm a funeral director. As far as career options without additional schooling, you could enter politics and write speeches for people, you could work in radio, print news, education, law or TV. Anymore, as long as you have a degree you can apply for a lot of different jobs. Congrats on graduating! Good Luck! You'll also never get bored as there is so much you have to learn. You learn just how meaningful nursing is when you start doing clinicals and working with real people. Good luck!!!
