Petitioning a Caregiver in Canada before returning for residency?
Q. I am Canadian and planning to return back home to Canada in 2 to 3 years. In my absence, can I apply to petition a caregiver while I am a non resident pending my return to Canada?
Asked by South Canadian - Thu Apr 2 20:27:41 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. NO the caregiver MUST be living in Canada WITH the family - the family MUST be in Canada when they apply. The caregiver will live in and work for you for 2 years. Once that 2 years is complete they can apply for PR status and get their caregiver work permit changed to an open permit, so they can work for whomever they choose.

How much to charge as caregiver to the old?
Q. Hello, My aunt is interested in the going rate, which of course varies by area, for a caregiver to the old. Basically she would sit with them for 8 hours a day and otherwise provide some basic services. That is my understanding anyway. Any ideas? Thanks!
Asked by Henry - Wed Jan 23 21:56:02 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think the most intelligent thing to do is to contact some in-home health agencies who provide this service and ask them what they charge and the credentials the caregiver has. Does your aunt have any pertinent credentials, such as being a CNA? If she does not, then whatever the lowest rate charged is is pretty much as she should even try to get. I hope she IS CPR certified at bare minimum as well and knows something about proper care of her back if she has to assist anyone in walking or such. Unless she has credentials, I doubt she can be paid by insurance or such, so it will be the relatives of or the elderly person himself who will have to be able to pay.

A. A caretaker normally looks after a thing like a campground, a building, a factory...that sort of thing. A caregiver normally looks after a person like someone who is elderly, infirm, a child, an animal...like that.

How Does a Person become a caregiver?
Q. I've searched online but I am unable to find a site that will give me info on how to become a caregiver. Any info or website that can help are greatly appreciated. Thank You!

A. If you're looking to enter the field professionally, there is a state test to pass. Check out the attached site to get more information. Caregivers have the same general test with the state as Certified Nursing Assistants, with a couple of additional topics. I know a couple of CNA's that also provide caregiving services. Their hours of work are usually a little more businesslike, Mon- Fri (8-5), which can be a huge benefit. Don't think they pay as well as hospitals, but the work is more general, less physically intense.

My mother needs her caregiver to assist her to back to the US;what kind of visa will the caregiver need?
Q. My mother is a US Citizen and has Parkinson's Disease. She is not physically capable of traveling by herself. She has employed a personal certified caregiver in the Philippines since February 2007. Due to job obligations for both myself and spouse, we are unable to travel to and from the Philippines to assist my mother's return to Virginia Beach, VA.
Asked by mj in vb - Sun Mar 23 21:37:45 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only visa the caregiver could get would be B1/B2. The caregiver will never be legally allowed to work in the United States. If the embassy in Manila actually issues the visa please let me know by email. My bet is 1,000 to 1 against it. There's almost no chance this "caregiver" would return to the Philippines.

Where do I start a caregiver group?
Q. I want to start a caregiver group for people who are 50+ caregivers. But where can I conduct the meetings for free? Does the YMCA let people use their place for free?
Asked by sowseeds - Fri Sep 29 12:05:14 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Most churches would allow you to conduct such meetings in their establishment, as they're into community service. Otherwise, if you have a problem with using the facilities of a religious institution, then your local municipal may have a community center that you can use.

Are you a caregiver who uses the Law of Attaction or the theory of Quantum Physics in your work?
Q. I'd love to hear stories of how this has changed the way you provide care for seniors or disabled adults and the results that you have received. I'm conducting research for a book on spiritual caregiving. Being a caregiver is a very difficult job...if you are a caregiver you might want to look into these theories to help you provide the best care and love the job you do...whether it is paid or if you are a family caregiver.

You need to check into this to keep yourself out of trouble. And, there are special classes you will have to take to satisfy government regulations for Adult Day Care. Plus it costs for certifications and inspections. What is the difference between a CNA, NA, LNA, and certified caregiver?
Q. I've worked as a Caregiver and want to get some certification. I'm interested in one-on-one caregiving, in-home care like hospice or for disabled. I don't want to get a certification that would not be considered appropriate for in-home care. What is the best option for me? I'd also just like to know the differences between the above certifications.
Asked by Era - Fri Jun 20 20:11:17 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. As a caregiver, the CNA is the most widely used certification. It is a Certified Nursing Assistant. Most states recognize this title as: having been adequately trained, received hands-on and class instruction, and passed a test. I would think that NA--is Nursing Assistant and LNA is Licensed Nursing Assistant. A Certified Caregiver is the same thing as a CNA. In my state, home health agencies, nursing homes and hospitals only hire aides who are CNA's.

A. I just read an article about this in Parenting magazine, they suggest giving no less than one days pay! A week seems a bit excessive, you are a family not a corporation! : ) Since she is full time perhaps the days pay and some homemade (or homemade looking ; ) treats in a basket should be more than enough and send the message that you really thought about her during the holidays!

But now I not able to do that stuff but if I could I would like to do it again. I wish you all the luck in your caring of father. Spend as much time as you can with him because he won't always be here. so love and take care. I know it gets hard but know one thing you are doing for him and loving him help him get through his time of suffering. You know God is always there to help you just as him. Hope this… [cont.]
