What character traits used to be considered more masculine than feminine but aren't any more?
Q. For example, years ago if a woman was assertive, that would be seen as a masculine, not a feminine, characteristic. Women who were too assertive were told they needed to back off and act more like a lady. With the strides made by feminism in the modern era, assertiveness seems no longer to be a gender-distinctive characteristic. What other character traits used to be considered masculine, but are now considered neither masculine nor feminine?

A. It's possible to be assertive and feminine at the same time. Those women used to be called "spit-fires" back in the day. Going to the gym was once a mostly male thing. Now it's very gender neutral, and both men and women are benefitting from their increased levels of physical fitness. I don't care how far we come, it's still is and will always be disgusting to see women spit in public!!

A. I don't really understand what you mean, but I do know that Lewis Caroll was also a mathematician. Some of the lines were inspired by mathematical equations which explains why the characters seem to be talking non-sense. I added a link that can explain this further. Hope this helps.

A. Wow! The first thing a Christian should look at when considering a spouse is their walk with the Lord. Look for their fruit. The first thing is double mindedness. A double man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8. He is a man who is carried about with every wind of doctrine and who can be easily deceived. Eph. 4:14. This man can bring down the whole house. The next thing is a man who is lazy and doesn't work and one who does not provide for his own. 1 Tim. 5:8. This man has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel. Pride is the downfall of many a man. God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. The Lord will destroy the house of the proud. Prov. 15:25. There are so many to name but we have to know that a man that… [cont.]

A. Chiyo, the fictional character in Arthur Golden's book, loosely based on the lives of two actual geisha he interviewed, was a young child who, along with her sister, sold in to a geisha house when her mother and father fell ill. She lived in a fishing town, poor, and is separated when taken one evening to be sold, from her sister, who is deemed too country to be of use in the high end geisha house chiyo is accepted in. Her sister is sent to a hot springs resort; a sort of lower class geisha house that focused less on the artistic pursuits of geisha, and more on the sexual. In the beginning, Chiyo is what I'd call a scrappy little chick- she's tough, uncertain and scared, but also strong. Her eyes are blue, an unusual trait, which leads… [cont.]

What is a descriptive term for a heterosexual woman with masculine character traits?
Q. I think men with female character traits are called femmes. (Is that derrogatory? Would there be a better term to describe?) How would you describe a woman who dresses femininly, is pretty, speaks like a woman; but thinks more like a guy? I'm looking for a good word. Thank you. If you don't know. Jokes for a laugh are welcome. Reversed gender roles.

A. Ponyboy Curtis Ponyboy Curtis, the youngest member of the greasers, narrates the novel. Ponyboy theorizes on the motivations and personalities of his friends and describes events in a slangy, youthful voice. Though only fourteen years old, he understands the way his social group functions and the role each group member plays. He sees that Two-Bit is the wisecracker, Darry the natural leader, and Dally the dangerous hood. Ponyboy dislikes the Socs, whom we see through his subjective viewpoint. The distorting effects of hatred and group rivalry make his narration less than objective. Ponyboy is young enough to have changeable conceptions of people, however, and over the course of the novel he realizes that Socs have problems just as… [cont.]

Asked by english l - Sun May 11 23:15:50 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. SparkNotes gives a good synopsis of this novel with relevant sections on characters and quotations of note. It also summarises each chapter. Atticus Finch is an honest man who believes in the essential goodness of man while accepting the inherent badness/evil of the same. He is highly intelligent, believes in justice and has a strong moral sense of right and wrong. Among many quotes from him are the lines... "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." (chapter 3) SparkNotes' section on quotes explores this and other mentions of Atticus' character further. For more help/info you might try your local library.

A. I always liked guys with long hair, lovely eyes and a soft mouth. I wanted someone who loved and cared for me, who understood me and who I could spend my life with. I was with someone for twenty years but for a lot of them I didn't have that person, they changed once they realised I wasn't their mum and when he was forced by circumstance to be at home fulltime too. I didn't realise what I really needed is what I have now. Someone who understands my sense of humour, beliefs and background. Someone who picks me up when I am down and who lets me support them. Someone of my own age group. We could happily be together 24/7 even if we are doing separate things. We laugh and cry together. We have dealt with serious issues but we can also be big… [cont.]
