How often are classes when you are in apprenticeship for a trade?
Q. Im looking into an apprenticeship for a trade like electrician or steam fitter or sprinkler fitter. I know they take classes but how often are these classes. How many nights a week are there classes? Please dont answer if ur gonna guess i would like someone who has been through it to tell me.

A. Free open University has many of these online. The unions offer the classes in the evenings and week ends. You might be better off getting a degree.

4 Days before classes start and there are no openings what can I do?
Q. I've been going to this college for 2 semesters already. I didnt bother signing up for classes back in december because I thought I was going to switch schools. I just found out that I have no choice but to stay at this one, but when I went to sign up for classes online, there is only 2 classed open out of the 6 I need to take. What do I do? Would my advisor be able to help me?

A. Contact the instructors of the classes you want to take via email and tell them that you would really appreciate it if they could add you to their roster should someone not show up on the first day (a lot of colleges have a first day drop policy if someone is absent on the first day). Given the instructors permission, show up on the first day and beg that they get you in. And, yes, talk to your advisor. They can pull strings for you.

How should I take notes in my college classes?
Q. Tomorrow is the first day of classes of my sophmore year. Over the last two semesters I have taken notes both by hand and on my laptop. Some classes simply require notes to be taken by hand, math for example. But, I have found that note-taking worked very well on my laptop in other classes, business classes in particular. I used Microsoft OneNote, which made organisation of notes iton classes very easy. What is your experience?

A. I had two types of professors, one type who took all the test questions from their lectures and nothing from the books and the other type who wasted your time in class since all of their questions were straight out of the book. Your safest bet is to take notes whichever way works for you until you figure out what type of professor you have. Then if you still feel the need to take notes do whatever works best for you.
