Do colleges care if you have transferred from a 4-year college to a community college?
Q. I am a sophomore at 4-year college right now and don't like the school. I want to fininsh off this coming semester so I can transfer to a community college since it's cheaper. I plan on taking the next semester at a cc. And then when I become a junior, I'm going to another 4-year college to graduate. Will the colleges I will be applying next year wonder why I started out as a student at a 4-year college but then decided to transfer over to a community colleges?

A. theyll probably ask... because inquiring minds (and nosy minds) want to know but its know big deal... heck I did the same thing ... the first university was too much money for me(I was out of state) so I went back in state to attend a community college and I received my associates after that I went to a 4 year university and I received my bachelor I was only there for 10 month because I recieved majority of my credits from the first university and the community college

What Christian college should I go to if I want to get into the music industry?
Q. Hey everybody. Right now I'm a (female) sophomore in high school in Omaha, NE. I'm trying to figure out where I want to go to college. I'm planning on working in the music industry when I graduate. I know of a Christian college called Evangel in Springfield, MO that offers a "Bachelor of Science in Music Industry". I want a program like that, but I also think it would be good if there was a record label near my college so I could possibly work as a college representative. Do any of you know where there are any Christian colleges with a good music industry program, AND a record label nearby so I could possibly work there while I'm in college?

A. Belmont University in Nashville, TN would be perfect. They offer a Bachelor of Music Business. Most Christian music record labels are situated in the heart of Nashville. Some that I know of include: Word Music (featuring artists like Amy Grant, Randy Travis, David Phelps, Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez among many others), Sparrow records, Forefront Records, the list goes on and on. I had a friend who went to Belmont and received a music business degree and interned at a local Christian music label while she was in school and is not only working for them but also recording/releasing cd's/and opening for bands.

What's the difference between community college and regular college ?
Q. I'm planning on becoming a police officer after HS.And I'm not planning on attending University, instead I plan on attending college and get some sort of degree...Where should I start ? I'm planning on following a course in general Law, in order to become a police officer. Should I attend community college or regular college? What's the difference ? Correct me If I'm wrong, but is community college local and you basically attend class for the day and go home at night just like High School ? And is regualr college, an establishment where you live in a dorm on campus and attend college for the year, and get the summer off ? Thank you I appreciate it All and all, I'm Canadian and trying to find a college where I will be able to… [cont.]

A. A community college is affordable and only issues AA degrees. You pay by units for classes and not a set semester fee. That's why it's more affordable. As for a university, this is a four year establishment where one can obtain a bachelor's degree in any subject they carry. If you want to just get your general education, then you go to a community college and transfer over to a university to obtain a bachelor's degree. Many people opt for community college because they are working and can't go to school full time. A university charges you a set fee for semester, it's very expensive and you have to pretty much go full time to get your money's worth. My husband is in law enforcement and you don't need a degree. But if you desire a degree,… [cont.]

What college is the best for studying the accounting profession in the state of Michigan?
Q. I am considering a college change. I have just earned my Associates at Baker College of Flint. I was wondering if there is a more credible college here in Michigan that may be recognized if I search for a job outside of the state or if I were to move further up north. I realized that most of my professors with degrees and CPA certifications have gone to the University of Michigan. Would I be seen as a more credible candidate if I went to U of M instead of Baker? Would it look bad to get my degrees (Associate and Bachelor) from two different colleges? I would appreciate professional answers.

A. You want to get yoru Bachelor's degree from the best institution possible and with the best grades you can achieve. You will have access to more corporate recruiters and a better alumni network if you attend the University of Michigan, so I would advise you to go there.

How do people transfer Colleges while on bad standing with current College?
Q. i went to comm. college for 2 years with almost a 3.0, then transferred to a California State University and got disqualified because of bad grades (i was sick, didn't withdrawl). almost all colleges i want to apply to say i need to be in good standing with your current college. can i only send my community college grades and act like i never transferred. or will they find out or is that ok?

A. They would definitely find out, and that is certainly NOT okay. You may be aiming too high. I'm sorry to say it, but having a fairly low GPA and being disqualified at the junior level (most schools won't disqualify you after just one semester - you usually get put on probation and have another chance, so if you were disqualified, I have to assume that you either did poorly for more than just one semester, or that you did SO poorly that there was no question of your being able to handle the work) just doesn't leave you with many options. You will probably need to apply to a less-selective private university or college at this point. This is how I would approach it. First of all, I'd find colleges which are more likely to accept you… [cont.]

A. Most colleges in the US will have an International Office - you could visit the website of US colleges you would be interested in, find their international office, and see if exchanges to Japan are possible! Most exchanges are by semester/term, but maybe you could negotiate to 2 years (though that would probably extend the length of time you would need to do your Bachelor's!). Sorry this isn't listing specific schools, but I'm Canadian and I went to school here - but I hope it helps!

Is a college diploma in Computer Programming sufficient to get me a good paying job?
Q. Only Canadians, please, because in other countries 'college' means a different thing. I will be graduating with a Geography degree from Wilfrid Laurier next year and I wanted to do GIS. I'm thinking that getting a diploma in college in computer programming will increase my chances for succesfull employment because I looked around at GIS jobs, and most of them require high computer proficiency. Also, are Canadian colleges as recognized world wide as universities? Thanks.
Asked by kat5998 - Fri Oct 19 10:42:26 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It doesn't matter what diploma. A diploma alone is not sufficient for anyone to be certain of getting a good paying job. As the previous person said, you have to have experience. You also have to prove your diploma is more than a piece of paper. You have to show you actually learned something and didn't only do just enough on tests to pass. You have to interview well. People who interview poorly rarely get hired. When they do get hired, they often get hired into poor jobs. You have to have some idea of what you want to do and why. The answer cannot be money. Technology employers don't want people who just want to make money. It sound like you have a plan that makes sense, though. Good luck.

The only 2 college football movies that I can think of are Rudy, and We Are Marshall. And I bet there will be people having Rudy on the list, since I bet that it is an old favorite, but will a more of a recent movie We Are Marshall going to be on the list? Transferring from a community college - How does it work?
Q. I am confused about how transferring from a community college works. After completing 2 years at a community college, can you just apply and transfer to any other college/university, or only if they accept the credits? Do only certain colleges and universities accept credits from only certain community colleges? Do you need to know if the 4-year college will accept the credits for the classes at the community college BEFORE applying to a community college?
Asked by qwertyyy - Tue Oct 21 00:23:10 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I do not think you have anything to worry about because the transition between the Associate's and Bachelor's levels is usually smooth. 1. What you have to look out for very much is that your credits will only transfer if you have C's or above, some schools have stricter rules but in general, if you have no grades worse than C's, everything will transfer. 2. Find an accredited institution because credits from a non-accredited school will not transfer.

My school wasn't keen on taking community college credits and it would be impossible to graduate as an… [cont.]

What are ways college students can eat healthy when they are on a budget?
Q. For many college students like myself, eatting healthy is not always possible and many college students are on a shoe string budget for groceries and many students end up eatting food they do not like. This food can include Ramen Noodles, Canned Food, Frozen Food, and eatting fast food such as pizza and hamburgers. What kind of advice would you give to college students to eat healthy when they are on a budget for food and groceries?

A. fruits and veggies are a lot cheaper than eating out. try spicing up your noodles with small peices of meat and veggies, kinda like a little stir fry. it's healthier and yummier. Also, milk, eggs, and flour can make thousands of different foods. For example, Swedish Pancakes. Add a little cinnamin and jam or fruit, they're delicious and healthy! I eat those for dinner sometimes. You can get billions of recipes online that only require those three ingredients, plus whatever you want to add to it. It's simple to eat healthy on a tight budget. It's also cheaper to eat healthier!

What college has the best undergrad program for getting into vet school?
Q. What college should I attend to have the best chance of getting into vet school? Or is the college where you do your undergrad not important to vet schools?

A. Like all school admissions, doing very well at a good school with a strong academic reputation is more important than going to one specific school over another. Go to a school that's a good fit for *you*--where you'll be happy, successful, financially salvageable (remember, vet school costs $$$ too), and have as many opportunities as possible (and if you're sure about vet school, perhaps consider potential volunteer opportunities at each college). Also, vet school admissions isn't very standardized (e.g. unlike med school, where all schools require essentially the same classes)...it can be a good idea to contact the schools you are most interested in and to find out their required classes and volunteer hour ranges (some vet schools… [cont.]

A. during my time at UMD, ive had to redo one class. i found it incredibly easy the second time around. for that reason i think you should find out the math class that business majors take. it would be a calculus class, but without the theory. this is almost the same as AP calc and wiill really prep you well for it. take the ap test no matter how well you think you know the material!

What's the difference between College classes and Honors classes?
Q. I'm filling out a scholarship that requires us to indicate if our high school offers Honors courses. I'm wondering if Honors courses are the same as College courses? And I don't mean College Prep courses, I mean College courses that you get college credits for. Any help? The College classes aren't AP, or IB or anything. They're courses offered by a local college that I take at my school. They are actual College courses that real college students take. I'm filling out the Coca-Cola Scholars scholarship?

A. College courses count as honors classes. Very few (but there are some that do) honors classes exceed college courses in rigor which will be in your favor. If you did them at a local college they count as honors classes. Thanks Bill
