What color should I paint a professional office?
Q. I need some suggestions on a color for an office. It is not a home office, it is my actual work. The desk is light grey. I am a female in my late 20's if that helps with color suggestions. Also, there is fluorescent lighting. The current color (glossy light blue) intensifies the light and it is very harsh on the eyes. Maybe a color that can minimize this?

A. If you are painting your office, then you don't have a choice. If you can choose the color, then either it is a home office, or you are the owner of your corporation and it doesn't really matter.

What color of colored contacts should you get if you have dark eyes?
Q. Do you think that colored contacts look natural if your eyes were brown, I mean can people really think that your real eye color is green when it's really brown. Do you approve of colored contacts? And what color should you get if you have dark eyes? Wouldn't blue be horrible? What color would look natural?

A. I would get a nice violet - but that wouldn't look natural. I like my natural color which is hazel. It goes well with any coloring.

What color should I paint my walls?
Q. I just installed red oak hard wood floors in my living room/ dining room area. The trim is all builder grade oak (kinda darker), not the best, but I can't replace it without replacing all the doors in my house - too expensive right now. My walls are a camel yellow and a much darker marigold yellow as an accent, I've always hated the wall color but haven't had the time to change it. Problem is, the light reflects off the floors and gives all the walls an orangeytint and it looks even worse. Needless to say, I don't want the hassle of trying to find the right shade of yellow so I'm looking for other color combinations that would be good. Preferrably a darker color for an accent wall & a lighter color on the rest of the walls. My boyfriend… [cont.]

A. Since your wood is a very warm shade, I'd go completely opposite to provide a nice contrast. On the color wheel, red is opposite from green so they are complimentary colors. Full saturated colors would look like Christmas, but I'm referring to more dulled down "dirty" sophisticated colors. Since your oak has a reddish tint, I'd go with a nice, neutral olive or sage green or if you want a teeny bit more color a nice celedon green (similar to sage, but has less brown in it and a little more blue-green. It's still a nice neutral) Be sure not to go too "primary" or mint with the green or it can look unsophisicated. Get several color swatches and pin them to the walls in your area and look at them at neumerous times during the day. Color can… [cont.]

What colors can combine to make a lovely magenta color?
Q. So in my art class, I've been stuggling to make this really beautiful magenta color, and whenever I add a lot of red to the blue, I still don't get the color I need. All I end up recieving is some nast purple vomit color.. Can someone please help!
Asked by Lily - Wed Apr 22 21:42:46 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. you need to start with the appropriate color, you need to specify what you are mixing, oil paint, acrylic paint ? If its acrylic paint you should start with process magenta and add either a warm (process yellow) or a cool (process cyan) Buying quality pigments (not hues) makes all the difference. Mixed colors tent to produce muddy, grayish or brown colors instead of bright clean colors. If you are mixing oil colors you should start with quinacrodone red to produce a magenta..in either case blue and red dont make magenta

What color paint and counters in kitchen with hardwood floors?
Q. I am having a hard time deciding what color to paint the wall and what kind and color of countertop. The kitchen is very light filled and at the moment has medium brown hardwood floors, a grayish blue counter, dark peach colors walls and white cabinets. I don't want anything dramatic or contemporary as its a farm house type feel, which I like. Would love any color combination suggestions!

A. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: I think "svelte sage" (# 6164) might be a great choice for the wall color with coffee-colored countertops. You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website: You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like

What color to paint a living room with honey colored wood floors?
Q. What color should a living room with honey colored wood floors be painted? The room feels skinny and long right now at about 11' 17', if that makes a difference. There's not specific furniture colors to correspond with, but we are planning on selling or renting out the house soon, so nothing too drastic.

A. choose a color that won't take away from the beauty of the floor but compliment it Honey can be tricky with its orange undertones so stay away from yellows ,oranges, reds, beige's and taupe's .Best for resale would be a light grey based sage or light grey based blue.I generally use Benjamin Moore paints they're more true to color than others i've used check out benjaminmoore.com for ideas

A. what *can't* you use? those colors are pretty neutral, so just about anything will match. Blue & brown and pink & brown are teh hott color combos right now, so go with blue or pink if you want a modern look. Such as: green & brown looks very natural & can also be very stunning: reds & oranges will give you that comfortable coffee shop feel.

What hair color looks good on light skin?
Q. I have naturally dirty blond hair and I want to dye it blonder ... my skin is very fair, I guess sort of neutral colors, and whenever I've tried putting my hair goldy, it makes my skin look flushed and I look washed out, too pale colors can also make me look gray. but sometimes ditto for ash colors. Oh and I have blue eyes I dunno if that helps at all, and thick wavy hair. I've been thinking about Reese Witherspoon's color, too yellow maybe?

How do you select and color only certain areas of a cartoon figure's outline using Adobe illustrator?
Q. I have been placing and live tracing my cartoon sketches in illustrator. It is super easy to color the blank areas using the paint bucket, but I can't figure out how to color the original black sketch with the colors that it touches (like part of the outline the hair color, part of the outline the skin color, part of the outline the shirt color, etc) Any suggestions?
Asked by marcella-bella - Tue May 26 09:23:38 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You would have to break up the outline into constituent parts so you have one for hair colour, one for shirt etc. To do that you first expand your live trace, duplicate it on another layer and remove the parts that are not to be coloured, you will then need to join the paths that are left (otherwise it will fill from the two open points), then apply the colour you want and move on to the next section.

Q. I'm planning my sweet sixteen and I want to get a dress that would best flatter my hair color, skin tone, and eye color to make me pop. My skin is a tanned/olive-ish color. A. a bright purple or blue...no green or red... (makeup) 1. you apply white or cream colored eyeshadow under the eyebrow, and above the cheek bones, and in the corner of your eyes. do this lightly. 2. use a natural lookin eyeliner (nature tone) or get a eyeshadow that is the same color as your eyeliner and wet ur brush and apply it as eyeliner. 3. use a soft eyeshadow on your lid whatever color just something that is brite and will contrast with your eyes...(preferably not brown). (or u could go wit the smoky eye) 4. use a little bit of mascara (black) 5. get a pink (natural looking) shiny lip gloss and a neutral blush... Make sure it looks natural though and not really obvious. I hope this helps

A. a bright purple or blue...no green or red... (makeup) 1. you apply white or cream colored eyeshadow under the eyebrow, and above the cheek bones, and in the corner of your eyes. do this lightly. 2. use a natural lookin eyeliner (nature tone) or get a eyeshadow that is the same color as your eyeliner and wet ur brush and apply it as eyeliner. 3. use a soft eyeshadow on your lid whatever color just something that is brite and will contrast with your eyes...(preferably not brown). (or u could go wit the smoky eye) 4. use a little bit of mascara (black) 5. get a pink (natural looking) shiny lip gloss and a neutral blush... Make sure it looks natural though and not really obvious. I hope this helps

What is the best color scheme for my new bedroom?
Q. I am moving into a new home and my bedroom furniture is dark brown in color. (Chaplin bedroom set with Rooms To Go). I really want to paint my bedroom a dark color, but I don't want it to clash too much with my furniture. What color should I paint the room? I don't want it to stay 'white' or 'light' in color. Is there a dark color I can paint my room so that it will still look good?

A. One of my favorite tools for figuring out color schemes is this website. If you click the create link on the side it will take you to where you can choose a type of color scheme (Analogous, Complementary, ect.) So choose one, and make one of the colors the same as the color of your furniture. Then as you drag the other colors around, the program automatically keeps the colors within the scheme you choose. This could help you figure out other colors that look good with it.

What color accents works well in a bedroom with turquoise and brown walls?
Q. What kind of accents, furniture, etc. will work well with the color of my bedroom walls? They are a turquoise/aqua and brown color, but i'm not sure what color accents to use - i was thinking of something like black picture frames for a modern look, or funky white lamps. Any ideas?
