How often can I color my hair, and what do I do about my roots in the meantime?
Q. I color my hair a dark auburn-red color that is quite attractive when the color is fresh and for a couple of weeks thereafter. When my brown and gray roots start becoming noticeable, however, it doesn't look quite as hot. Moreover, because red hair color tends to fade more noticeably than other hair colors, I almost always have to freshen up my overall color (by spreading the dye around to the ends for the last 10 minutes) when I touch-up my roots. I wish I could color every 3-4 weeks, but I'm afraid to color my hair more often than every 5-6 weeks. Is coloring hair more frequently than that damaging? How often can you safely color your hair? What can you do about roots in the meantime? Can you rotate permanent with non-permanent dye?… [cont.]

A. your colorist will tell you how often you should color safely. there is something called hair mascara that will fill in your roots. red dye molecules are HUGE compared to our hairs, thats why it comes out so easy. use shampoo specifically for red hair.

What color of colored contacts should you get if you have dark eyes?
Q. Do you think that colored contacts look natural if your eyes were brown, I mean can people really think that your real eye color is green when it's really brown. Do you approve of colored contacts? And what color should you get if you have dark eyes? Wouldn't blue be horrible? What color would look natural?

A. I would get a nice violet - but that wouldn't look natural. I like my natural color which is hazel. It goes well with any coloring.

A. Black sunglasses go with everything and anything. White sunglasses can be worn with black, bold colors like red but are more casual. Brown glasses can be worn with denim, and basic colors. Or you can wear them with anything (depending on who you are) Have a look at this site:

What color should I paint my walls?
Q. I just installed red oak hard wood floors in my living room/ dining room area. The trim is all builder grade oak (kinda darker), not the best, but I can't replace it without replacing all the doors in my house - too expensive right now. My walls are a camel yellow and a much darker marigold yellow as an accent, I've always hated the wall color but haven't had the time to change it. Problem is, the light reflects off the floors and gives all the walls an orangeytint and it looks even worse. Needless to say, I don't want the hassle of trying to find the right shade of yellow so I'm looking for other color combinations that would be good. Preferrably a darker color for an accent wall & a lighter color on the rest of the walls. My boyfriend… [cont.]

A. Since your wood is a very warm shade, I'd go completely opposite to provide a nice contrast. On the color wheel, red is opposite from green so they are complimentary colors. Full saturated colors would look like Christmas, but I'm referring to more dulled down "dirty" sophisticated colors. Since your oak has a reddish tint, I'd go with a nice, neutral olive or sage green or if you want a teeny bit more color a nice celedon green (similar to sage, but has less brown in it and a little more blue-green. It's still a nice neutral) Be sure not to go too "primary" or mint with the green or it can look unsophisicated. Get several color swatches and pin them to the walls in your area and look at them at neumerous times during the day. Color can… [cont.]

What color should I paint the walls and fireplace in the living room?
Q. My husband and I are remodeling our living room. We want to keep the wall color in the beige family, but we don't know what color to paint the fireplace. We have peanut colored carpet and a beige sofa and chair. Our furniture is a dark cherry color.

A. you should play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: I think it would look really sharp to paint the fireplace "Tricorn Black" (# 6258)?

What colors can combine to make a lovely magenta color?
Q. So in my art class, I've been stuggling to make this really beautiful magenta color, and whenever I add a lot of red to the blue, I still don't get the color I need. All I end up recieving is some nast purple vomit color.. Can someone please help!
Asked by Lily - Wed Apr 22 21:42:46 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. you need to start with the appropriate color, you need to specify what you are mixing, oil paint, acrylic paint ? If its acrylic paint you should start with process magenta and add either a warm (process yellow) or a cool (process cyan) Buying quality pigments (not hues) makes all the difference. Mixed colors tent to produce muddy, grayish or brown colors instead of bright clean colors. If you are mixing oil colors you should start with quinacrodone red to produce a magenta..in either case blue and red dont make magenta

What color should I paint my new living room?
Q. I'll be moving in a few weeks into a small-ish condo, with 3 large windows on one side. The kitchen, dining area, and living area is one big room, about 20 x 20. I'll be buying some very dark leather furniture, and a dark colored dining-pub with chairs. Also, the hardwood is an auburn color, and the cabinets in the kitchen are sort of a medium-auburn color. How to get the color back to its original state?
Q. I got this hoodie yesterday and realized at home that the color at the sleeve is lighter than the color for the rest of the shirt. The hoodie is red, but on the sleeves, there are strips of like an old-ish, washed out red. How can I make the color match the original color? I've washed it yesterday and it didn't do anything. Is there a way to make the colors match or should I just return it?

What do color-blind people see in place of colors which look alike to them?
Q. I am green-and-brown color-blind. When people ask me what I see in place of green and brown, I don't know what to tell them. People with normal color vision can't describe the colors they see and I can't describe the colors I see. A. I LOVE your question! Both my brother and father were green - brown color blind. But I have a son that has a variation including red. Until I worried so badly about my little boy being "vision impaired" the question didn't come much to mind! A not-so-honest doctor diagnosed my son as TOTALLY color blind at age THREE. That was a blow to me to say the least. But I took him to a specialist that said he was "too young" to be even tested correctly. He did some tests and DID say he had some problem with "red." I don't think he was ever tested again. WHY? Because I decided that making an "issue" of it was "not fair to him." He either WAS or he WASN'T but one thing for sure, he was born that way so what he saw he "accepted" and didn't MISS… [cont.]

What is the best color scheme for my new bedroom?
Q. I am moving into a new home and my bedroom furniture is dark brown in color. (Chaplin bedroom set with Rooms To Go). I really want to paint my bedroom a dark color, but I don't want it to clash too much with my furniture. What color should I paint the room? I don't want it to stay 'white' or 'light' in color. Is there a dark color I can paint my room so that it will still look good?
Asked by Sky Cole - Mon Sep 1 18:50:00 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. One of my favorite tools for figuring out color schemes is this website. If you click the create link on the side it will take you to where you can choose a type of color scheme (Analogous, Complementary, ect.) So choose one, and make one of the colors the same as the color of your furniture. Then as you drag the other colors around, the program automatically keeps the colors within the scheme you choose. This could help you figure out other colors that look good with it.

What color should I paint my kitchen?
Q. I want to update my kitchen. The cabinets are off white with brassy antique handles. There is beige tile and my appliances are white. I am going to put up an Earth/Clay stone black splash with a mosaic border. I am open to painting the cabinets (cant afford to replace them right now) I want to paint my kitchen a dark brown/cafe color. Any suggestions. My Living area is burnt orange and the dining room is white. I want to paint the dining room too. The dining room is situated between the kitchen and living room; so, I need the colors to flow smoothly between the three rooms. The floor in the living and dining rooms is light color wood. Help! Thx!

A. Go to your local home improvement or paint store and get paint swatches that are the same colors as the rooms that you are already happy with. Hold them together and compare them to other swatches that you like. This will give you an idea of how these colors will look near each other. The dark brown sounds nice, but try it out next to the others first. Another option is to buy several poster boards (they're cheap) and paint them the colors that you are considering. Hang them in your kitchen one at a time for a few days and see how the colors look in the actual area that you are wanting to paint.

What color of dress would look good with brown and gold setup for my wedding?
Q. I am thinking of using gold and brown for the reception (venue) for my wedding but I don't know how to decorate the place yet using both colors. It is also hard to think of a color that will best suit my bridesmaid and flower girls that looks good with the brown and gold theme of the tables. I am afraid that the table color might over power my bridesmaid. Help me please, my wedding is on December 27 this year so I really need your help.

A. if the decor is brown with gold accents then gold dress could look really nice but u as the bride also wants to stand out and be the one shining. silver goes with anything. a deep royal blue could work depending on the brown but are pretty hard to find shoes for. purples are going out of fashion and will be completly gone by december. really deep greys can work as long as theyr not harsh blacks. id keep away from greens unless u really like them otherwise they can look mucky wen put with browns. hope it helps. mightv just made things harder.x
