A column in structural engineering is a vertical structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. For the purpose of wind or earthquake engineering, columns may be designed to resist lateral forces. Other compression members are often termed "columns" because of the similar stress conditions. Columns are frequently used to support beams or arches on which the upper parts of walls or ceilings rest. In architecture "column" refers to such a structural element that also has certain proportional and decorative features. A column might also be a decorative or triumphant feature but need not be supporting any structure e.g. a statue on top.

what is the smoothest way to type numbers into columns in Microsoft Excel?
Q. I have two columns of numbers I need to enter. Column on left is minutes, the column on the right is seconds. I need to type minutes, then seconds, then move back to the minutes column, then seconds, etc. Is there a smooth way to do this? How should I position my fingers? Can I format the worksheet to move back to the left column automatically after I enter something in the right column?

A. Select the Entire Column A & Column B ( or from the row you want to put new values) Now enter values and press Tab key instead of Enter. or if you don't want to select any range then just press TAB to move right and press enter when you want to go to begining of next row (only if you have pressed TAB in the complete row other wise it will shift to the first column where tab sequence started from) use it you will understand it is little complicated to understand and to learn but once if you will bring it in practice you will have a tremendous control over keyboard to work speedly.

How do I make it that the lines in the columns in ms word are aligned and level?
Q. Since I'm using different sized fonts, the lines columns in my ms word document don't exactly line up (like if I would put a ruler under a line it would not align with the column to the right of it). Is there a way to easily do that? Thanks!

A. If you want to stay with columns, then you can adjust the text position on the line. Select the text you want to change, right-click > Font. On the Font panel > Character Spacing tab. Then change the Position to Raised or Lowered, and in the By text box, you have to adjust the amount you want to lower or raise. As you can tell, that can get really tedious trying to re-adjust each text until you get it just the way you want it. A much easier way that can simulate columns is to use tables instead. That way, each line of text in each column will be more closely aligned on each row.

How do I print selected rows and columns from excel but all on one paper?
Q. I want to print only some columns in excel but I want all the selected columns to be side by side when it prints out. So for example I want to print out columns 1, 3, 4, and 5 for instance. They are not all one after the other in excel, but when it prints out I want them all to be side by side. is there anyway to do this?

A. so right now all 5 columns print before you print, just hide the column you dont want to see so assume your columns are A,B,C,D,E then - right click on the B at the top of column B - click Hide print your sheet - click and select column letter A and C - right click on one of the column letters - click unhide then your B column will be back to normal. hope thie helps edit- thats a great idea DaddyJan. i will remember to incorporate that into my answer next time.
