Como (Còmm in the local variety of Western Lombard) is a city in Lombardy, Italy, 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Milan. Situated at the southern tip of the south-west arm of Lake Como, it is the capital of the province of Como and directly borders the comunes of Blevio, Brunate, Capiago Intimiano, Casnate con Bernate, Cavallasca, Cernobbio, Grandate, Lipomo, Maslianico, Montano Lucino, San Fermo della Battaglia, Senna Comasco, Tavernerio, Torno and the Swiss towns of Chiasso and Vacallo. Como is divided into these frazioni: Albate, Breccia, Camerlata, Camnago Volta, Civiglio, Garzola, Lora, Monte Olimpino, Muggió, Ponte Chiasso, Prestino, Rebbio, Sagnino, Tavernola. If you are being asked "como estas?" by someone who is older than you, or in a higher position, you answer more formally by saying, perhaps "Bien, gracias. Como esta usted?" Which means "I'm doing well, thank you. How are you?" Less formal is "bien, gracias. Y usted?" Very informal is "bein, gracias, y tu?" Keep in mind that it is VERY rude to call a superior the informal version of you "tu"...say "usted" instead. (no pun intended) you could also say "bien"---I'm doing well.
