Good online or correspondence schools?
Q. You don't need to hear my sob story but I need a cheep (less than $2000 per year) high school (I need to keep my 9-5 so I can sleep indoors and eat). The ones I have found are either for Americans only (I am Canadian) or else have video classes during the day. Any suggestions would be helpfull. God bless.

A. K12 is an amazing, rich and rigorous curriculum. It has recently opened its "International Academy." You can enroll part time ($375 per semester, per course) and in your budget take two or three courses per year. It might not be ideal, but you may find it amazing enough to make it work. Is it compulsory for schools in NSW Australia to offer courses by correspondence?
Q. Hello, If a school doesn't offer an HSC course at school is it compulsory for them to offer it by correspondence? I'm in NSW, Australia and interested in doing the software design and development course. Thanks, Cory

A. No its not - If it is a single subject - thats what you go to TAFE for. You go on a Saturday or a weeknight once a week and do the single subject. Several students from my old school did that as the school could allow you to study both German and Physics (timetable didnt allow for it) so they took German at TAFE on Tuesday nights. Individual schools dont teach by correspondence (who is to do it?) Correspondence schools do - you have to sign up as a home schooler which takes time and requires your parents to be involved (one to be a home body for instance).

Poetry writing course at a correspondence school?
Q. I'm interested in a poetry writing course offered in one of those correspondence schools (you know the ones that teach via INTERNET) they award you with a diploma, however I'm not sure whether their degrees are officially recognized or not, when I asked they didn't give a clear answer!
Asked by fatima - Wed Jan 14 10:11:49 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You would be far better off checking out online poetry workshops like The Critical Poet, The Gazebo, Writer's Block and many others. On these sites they have forums for miscellaneous postings, many of which are about writing workshops that are legitimate, reasonably priced, and help people to get published by helping them to develop their writing. Many are available to do the work on the Internet and/or in person. Suggest you stay away from "correspondence courses." They are dinasaurs, scams or often both. You might also Google the home page for the IBPC (Interboard Poetry Competition) which features information on legitimate workshops for serious writers.

do you suggest correspondence schools?
Q. i am undergraduate, and currently working in a callcenter company. I want to finish my college, so I'm considering a correspondence school. Is it okay?
Asked by sherry lynne - Thu Oct 11 04:13:27 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. What you can do is see if your college offers a correspondence program, or you can take some classes through correspondence through your college. I do not recommend you try any online schools because they are expensive and you will probably get a worhless piece of paper. Online scools are a joke to most employers.

Has anyone ever done one of those correspondence schools? Like Strafford Career Institute?
Q. I called them and they said they are like a vocational school. You don't get certified or a degree but you do get a cerficate of compleation when you graduate. I was going to do the teacher aide one. I think that certificate will help me. It will show I have studied that type of work. But I just don't know. That school I listed is a the Better Business Bureau member. What do you all think? Thanks for your help. :)

A. Check with your local school Administration office (or your favorite teacher) and see what they require to be a Teacher's Aide. You might be surprised - some schools have training programs to be a Teacher's Aide. They can also suggest schools who they would accept if you need some background education. They can probably help you get registered, also. You don't want to spend a lot of time and money on correspondence courses that won't be accepted anywhere.

Can you take the CLA exam if you get a certificate through a correspondence school?
Q. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, 5 years of experience as a File Clerk in a law firm, and I am studying Paralegal studies through Stratford Career Institute (which is a correspondence school (through the mail)). I know that the NALA has specific requirements for those people who can take the CLA exam. Would I be able to take the CLA exam after I get my certificate through Stratford? To the "Star" person, NO, I am NOT talking about becoming a LAWYER. You don't get a Juris Doctor to become a Paralegal. You get a certificate. You don't take the bar exam to become a Paralegal. You take the bar exam to become a lawyer. If you don't know for sure of what I am talking about, then don't answer. PS: NALA = National… [cont.]

A. No, if this paralegal studies course doesn't award you a Juris Doctor. Why not sign up for a law school course - that can also be done through correspondence school. Then, you first need to take the First Year Law Student's Examination (FYLSE), also called the "Baby Bar." After you have done that, and passed, you can continue the law school correspondence and then after 4 years, take the California Bar Exam. More information can be found at the link below:

How can I find what correspondence school I received credit from in 1990?
Q. A company performing a background check on me for employment called me today to tell me I do not have a HS diploma. I graduated in 1990 and had to get an elective credit through a correspondence school. Which I did. They never sent the paperwork to the High School. I have no clue who I went through back then, but choices were slim. Does anyone have any idea how the heck I can find this info? I will not get this job if I dont have a diploma. I had no clue this even happened and have never had this problem in the past 17 years.

A. Did you check with your high school to see if they had any information about you attending the school? They could have the name in their file. How did you find out about the school? Who referred you? Did you call the guidance counselors at the high school? They may know the school if they frequently referred students to that school. Do you have any paperwork at all with the name of the school?

A. This company is a diploma mill. They aren't a real school. They list accredition from an unrecognized accrediting agency, which basically means the diploma is worthless. In some states, its even illegal to use a diploma from a diploma mill to get a job. Like I said in a previous question of yours, Penn Foster has their own High School Course thats regionally and nationally accredited by recognized accrediting agencies that are even recognized by the US Dept of Education.

What information do you have about Cornerston Christian Correspondence School?
Q. Hello, I'm a former highschool student who was forced to dropout due to medical problems. With that being said, I've been looking into many GED and Diploma programs, however they are all very expensive and Cornerstone seems to be the cheapest one. I've read many reviews, but I would like to know for sure if this is legit. Any information you have would be very appreciated. Thank you!

A. If the Cornerstone that you are talking about is located in Georgia, then it sounds like it is not a legitimate school. You may have to copy and paste this link into you browser: I would try Charity Christian Academy, they are inexpensive.

Can a person actually get a job with a degree from Penn Foster or other correspondence school?
Q. I am wanting to take get a degree in Paralegal studies, and I want to do it now. I am tired of waiting for college to start and everything that is required to go to a 2 year or 4 year college. I just don't want to pay all the money and then not be able to get a job. Is it possible to get a job after getting a degree from Penn Foster, or other institutes like Penn Foster? I have a loan in rehabilitation and can't get financial aid right now and can't afford tuition for a brick and mortar college.
Asked by April D - Thu Apr 23 11:39:29 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Penn Foster will not get you a job. It isn't accredited or looked at positively in the professional work force. It is a scam. I worked with someone who looked into suing them to get her money back because when she finished no one would hire her. No One. Try to find an accredited on line college or just go to a traditional class room for the degree.

A. The answer depends on whom you ask. Some would say that a "true" homeschooler is one taught by the parents, with the parents making the ultimate decisions about curriculum, assignments, courses, grades, etc., while a student in a correspondence school has most, if not all, of these educational decisions made by the correspondence school. For many of these people, someone might "officially" be a homeschooler, according to the state, but if he's using a correspondence school, he's really a private school student (or a public school student if the correspondence school is state-supported). (And this goes against the fact that many homeschool parents use tutors, co-op classes and other people to help teach their own children.) Some would… [cont.]
