How do you create a scarecrow costume from the wizard of oz?
Q. Me, my wife and kids are all dressing up as characters from the wizard of oz for halloween. They all bought their costumes already except me. The costumes they had at the stores for the scarecrow looked really fake and cheap. I have what I can use for the pants, shoes and the mask but don't have any ideas for the rest. Does anyone have any ideas on how to put the finishing touches on my costume, such as the straw, shirt and the rope that goes around the waist. Any ideas will be appreciated and places where I might be able to find them. Thanks.

How to create a costume resembling the ones worn in the Victorian Era?
Q. Unfortunately, the project is due really soon, leaving me with very little time to work out. I'm supposed to be representing the working class (nearly impoverished) in Victorian society and I really don't what how to stitch up a costume soon. My sewing machine is broken, but I can sew pretty well and quickly. I just need ideas on on how to make a quick costume and what kind of fabric is best to use.
Asked by ---===---- - Wed Apr 2 21:03:39 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For the lower classes, try a full long dark skirt -- grey or brown, not black -- without ruffles. The fabric, if you have your choice, should be roughish. Use a squarish cut (taper it at the waist only a little; rely on plenty of gathering instead.) Looking svelte was not a concern of the working class. A bunchy waist was not a bad thing. The blouse should be moderatley well-fitted, only a little loose. It should (sorry about your skin) also be a little rough. It should have long sleeves and come up to the base of the neck. It may or may not have a real collar. The buttons, if you're being authentic, would be wood. Of course, hooks and eyes were at least as common as buttons. These would be hidden from sight under the placket… [cont.]

A. i think you should be an egyptian :) its fun to dress up and you dont look like a moron, you actually look glammed up and pretty. you seem to have perfect features for it! and you dont need to buy much as long as you have eyeliner, shadow, maybe some cheap jewlery and an elaborately decorative dress which im sure you could get from a thrift store. i dressed up as one and i found a perfect long black dress with gold design and jewels and stuff on it. it was pretty cool :P and totally fun! another suggestion could be a vampire (the black hair would do good, and come on vampires are awesome xD) or a killer schoolgirl. thats what im going as this year :D

How to make a homemade Goldilocks costume?
Q. I don't want to buy one of those expensive costumes, so how can I make a homemade goldilocks costume? I already have blond hair, so I don't need a wig.
Asked by Lauren M - Sun Oct 18 15:36:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you don't know how to sew, you can buy a gingham printed dress for less than half of what some of the costumes go for. Target has some and there is one at Macy's here: After this you can buy a white apron at a craft store like Michael's or AC Moore or maybe you have one at home or one of your friends does. On the apron you can make a little bear out of felt or construction paper (3 circles for head and ears and make a face on it) and glue/pin it on the apron. You can also adorn the apron with ribbon or lace on the edges to dress it up. You can put the extra ribbon in your hair and maybe draw on freckles with brown eyeliner. Good luck!

Where can I sell costume jewelry? I saw it on an antiques roadshow once, where do I start to sell it?
Q. I'm cleaning out my deceased grandmother's closet, and found tons of old costume jewelry. Some of it is cheap plastic and going to Goodwill, but some of it is actually nice stuff. I saw an Antiques Roadshow once that said a lot of the old broaches were collector's items and were actually worth money, so the question is, where do I start to try to sell or auction some of it?
Asked by 78 - Sat Jan 24 16:23:14 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is an organization called the Vintage Fashion and Costume Jewelry association. The members are experts and traders and collectors of vintage costume and fashion jewelry. You might make a good start by contacting them. Maybe someone near you is a member and could help you figure something out. Here is there website. You might also go to an antiques consignment shop and see about selling it through them. Just be sure to check their reputation carefully before you leave anything with them.

A. Witch: Black clothes, cape, witch's hat and broom. (Dye an old sheet for the cape). Football Player: Those who have an older brother or father who played football in high school or college can use their uniform. Use foam inside the helmet to make it fit properly, use the teams sweatshirt underneath. Use black tape under the eyes for that touch of the real game. Zorro: Black clothing, black hat, mask (for the cape - dye an old sheet black) and a red scarf wrapped around the waist. I Dream of Jeannie: Use a tube top for the top, and cut off a red vest for the jacket. Use baggy pants that can be dyed pink and an old pair of ballet shoes. A. in this day and age just a man and a woman together as a couple seems to be politically incorrect, you could also go with osama bin laden and a nyc fireman, a white couple in black face, a priest and a little boy, a priest and a pregnant nun, man, i am gonna to hell for saying that probably, or the best one, hillary clinton and barack obama, that is definately politically incorrect... happy halloween
