How does someone who has already graduated college plede Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am a college graduate who is living in the Bronx, and I would love to pledge Delta Sigma Theta. I have had a deep interest in this sorority since I was a young girl and I am ready to make that commitment. I would like to meet anyone who might also be interested in pledging and how they are going about it. I am really looking for specific answers. Thanks in Advance

A. I am pretty positive you cannot be in a sorority without being enrolled in the school which it is affiliated. Honestly though, all they do is cost money too much money. You basically are paying for your friends. I came to college without knowing anyone and I have made sooo many friends, and have heard horror stories about sororities and how they are so snotty and stuck up, and its just a big dramafest. If you make friends in life you don't need "Greek Life" to make those friendships last a lifetime, all it takes is a small effort on at least one person's part to keep a friendship for a lifetime. And if you want to volunteer in your community you can find hundreds of ways to do so without joining a sorority. You can also find ways… [cont.]

How to become a Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I will be attending a university for the first time. I would like to join Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Do I have to be selected to pledge? Or do I need to only attend the rush and meet the DST qualifications? I will be coming attending as a sophmore when attending the university. Will that make a diffrence when getting involved with DST.

A. The first thing I would suggest to you is attend as many events that they host on campus. My Sorors need to know who you are. Our public motto is "Scholarship, Sisterhood and Service," so you want to make sure that you have plenty of community service, and your grades are excellent. Also if possible, try joining and/or becoming involved with different organizations on campus, such as Black Student Union, or Student Government, etc... Since you are attending college for the first time, you have plenty of time to establish yourself on your college campus. The more you become involved and the higher your g.p.a the better chance you have of becoming selected for membership Ultimately the final decision is receiving the majority vote from… [cont.]

Time line of rush and membership intake process of Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I went to rush for an alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. The deadline for submission was this past Monday. It is now Friday, should I have received a phone call by now regarding the interview process, and also I know it's late to ask. I know 2 letters of recommendation were required, requesting 1 year of continuous community service, should both of the letters had one year? I know one letter was for 1 year 4 months and the other was for 5 months. Could that have hurt my chances in receiving an interview?
Asked by allsmiles - Fri Mar 6 14:35:44 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hello there! Well firstly, alumnae chapters usually have hundreds of women applying for membership especially because they dont have lines as often as undergraduate chapters. With that being said, 5 days is too short a time for the ladies to review all the applications and decide who gets and interview. Most often, if your packet is complete (i.e. you have provided all of the required information) you will get an interview. As far as your community service letters, if the application stated that you needed one year of continuous community service, then that is what you should have provided. However, it is up to the chapter members whether or not they feel that your community service is adequate. Hopefully you are accepted for membership… [cont.]

Will I be eligible to get into Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am going to graduate school at Hampton University next year and I'm interested in joining Delta Sigma Theta. Is there a age limit I'm 25 and what are some other requirements?
Asked by 23pisces - Wed Apr 8 14:41:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No there is not an age limit. As far as requirements for alumnae, it is the same as undergrad but just more community service hours. The G.P.A. requirement goes off of your last completed degree. Just make sure you attend a lot of my Soror's events and get to know them b/c you have to get invited to RUSH if you are trying to join an alumnae chapter. good luck!!!

A. Yes, if you have completed your graduate program and are able to submit that transcript, then it can be considered with your application instead of your undergraduate GPA.

Do I have to wait before I can attend rush at Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae chapter?
Q. I would like to know if I have to wait before I attend a rush ( if invited) at a Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae chapter if I attend an undergraduate university where there was an active chapter?
Asked by Love M - Tue May 5 18:24:17 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When are you graduating? More info is needed. Just gonna answer what I think you are trying to ask. If you are saying that you attended or attend an undergraduate university and DST is/was active on that campus and you did not seek membership at that level will you have to wait before you attend an Alumnae chapter RUSH. If that is what you are asking the answer would be: First off you have to be invited to attend a RUSH for an Alumnae Chapter. They are not usually advertised. If you are invited there is no need to wait. There is no need to wait to seek membership into an Alumnae Chapter upon graduation if you meet the criteria. However, you may have to wait until the chapter in your area has a line.

I can't get in contact with an alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, what should I do?
Q. I'm interested in joining an alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. I've visited their website and I saw a phone number. Everytime I call, it goes straight to voicemail. I've also e-mailed them and haven't gotten a response. I'm moving to the city of the chapter in the fall, I don't know anyone and I have no way to contact them. Any ideas on what should I do?
Asked by caramelmami210 - Thu May 1 12:32:46 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You sound as if you are pressed for time, or have an urgent need to get in touch with the chapter for some reason. I'm sure you don't want to appear as if you are "stalking" the members, so why not concentrate on moving in and getting settled in your new area? You never know when you may run into a member while you are out in town, in the community, attending church, etc. Also, be aware that the chapter is busy, and will be wrapping up activities very soon since the summer is approaching. If they normally update their website, then just keep checking for them to post events in the fall when programming resumes.

Q. I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta, and our school has the Rush in November and the semester ends around the first week of December(finals start about the 6th). So, if this is the case about when are applications, recommendation letters and transcripts due? Are they due when we come back in January or are they due before we leave in December? *i know you cant be specific but about how ling do you guys usually give applicants to turn in the information?

A. The best advice I can give you is wait until you attend Rush. When you attend my sorors will let you know all the details for the requirements. This is privilege information and will only be given out at Rush. I know you are anxious to know this information, (I was once in your shoes) but trust me when it's time for you to know,,,you will know! Good luck in your quest!

How different is becoming/being a graduate member of Delta Sigma Theta from being an undergraduate member?
Q. I want to know how different becoming and being an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. is from becoming/being an undergraduate member. I'm not asking for any confidential organizational secrets I'm speaking in general. This question could also probably apply to all sororities as well. I'm 24 and am currently getting my masters. I know that if I were to join the organization it wouldn't be through the chapter at my school but through the graduate chapter. Is graduate membership a lot different than undergraduate? I had a little bit of interaction/exposure to the grad chapter where I used to live and it did seem quite different but my experience isn't very extensive. A. Our intake process, by the book, is the same. However, there will be a different sort of bonding process than as an undergrad because we don't live together. The specific service activities for each chapter are different, but all are guided by our Five Point Thrust. I have found that alumnae chapters have just as many social activities, but they are different because we are grown women. We don't throw many parties like our undergraduate sorors, but we aren't in college anymore. :) Also, we do step. In my opinion, *if* you become a Delta, it doesn't matter whether it was undergrad or alumnae. If you want to be a member of my sorority, it is more important what you do *after* you become a member than how you come in. If you make… [cont.]

How Should I go about getting ready for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.?
Q. I have been interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. since 12th grade and now i'm a Junior in college. I really want this, but i just don't know how to answer this question. Any Suggestions Anyone?
Asked by Hershey - Fri Jan 23 05:03:15 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You should definitely maintain a good GPA at least 2.75 because they have increased GPA requirement. Also you want to get involved and stay involved in community service. Any events that DST is hosting on your campus try to make an effort to attend and let your interest be known without overstepping boundaries. Start thinking about why you want to join and what exactly you can contribute to the organizations. What sets you apart from the other 100 girls interested in joining. Finally be on the look out for fliers posting date for interest meetings. Do that and you should be fine. It would be a good idea to search as much as possible. Follow your dreams and good luck!!!

Does delta sigma theta advertise their informational meeting with flyers like other divine nine?
Q. I notice other Divine Nine postin maybe one or two flyers around my campus (rather discreetly of course) advertising their informational session for initiation. However, I never see he deltas. Do they just not advertise that way (being more word of mouth), or am I just not looking hard enough. How can I be privy to that information without sucking up to a current delta pretending to befriend her as most people i know do.
Asked by Hoping for Help - Sun Dec 21 10:56:33 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To answer your question, Yes my sorors will advertise that they are hosting a rush/informational. One way you can find out if and when they are hosting one is contacting your greek affairs/student activities office. They will be able to inform you of all of my soror's events. You can also ask who the current president of that chapter is, and send her a friendly email inquiring about upcoming events. Good luck to you!

A. Start off by doing your research on all four sororities. Here are the websites: books: The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities by Lawrence C. Ross, Jr. African American Fraternities and Sororities: The Legacy and the Vision by Tamara L. Brown, Gregory S. Parks, Clarenda M. Phillips Talk to the different sorority members. Becoming active (joining different clubs and community service) on campus is a good way to meet greeks. Attend any functions held on campus by the sororities.

How often do Delta Sigma Theta do intake process at a quarterly school?

A. To answer your question, you will have to be at "sophomore" status before you are allowed to go through the intake process at your school. It really doesn't matter if your school is on a quarter or semester system as long you are considered at least a sophomore. What types of community service is Delta Sigma Theta Sorority interested in for prospective alumnae members?
Q. I participate in 1-2 community walks for breast cancer and the UNCF in my city every year. I also participated, for the 1st time last year, in Holiday Adopt-A-Child program. Do these types of activities constitute community service?
Asked by Char - Thu May 29 13:00:30 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, they definitely count towards community service. We look for a variety of community service projects when trying to choose prospective members for our organization. We also look for people who have a longevity of community service as well, so if you have participated in community walks for breast cancer and UNCF every year, then you should be fine. What we don't want is people that have community service JUST before Rush. That shows up that they are just trying to put in a few hours before MIP. Since we are considered a community service organization and not a social org, then community service is obviously VERY important to us. Good luck to you, and continue serving your community!
