How much would it cost to pledge and what can Delta Sigma Theta offer me that other sororities don't?
Q. I am currently a freshman in college and it's getting close to the time for people to start the pledging process. I'm very uncertain about pledging at this time. It was always my dream to pledge Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. My question is, how much would it cost to pledge, and what does the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority offer that other sororities don't?

How many community service hours are sufficient for Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta and I am a sophomore in college. In high school i did a lot of community service, but i didn't do alot my Freshman year of college. This year, which is my sophomore year, i am in a service fraternity and am volunteering every week. So my question is, what will be the minimum amount of community service that i need to apply for membership?
Asked by Gobberele J - Wed Oct 31 02:48:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We require at least one continuous year of service with the same organization within the past 3 years. Some organizations, like churches, don't count, but I can't remember the specifics. Sometimes they are very particular. They want to see that you are doing the service on your own, not because an organization requires it, so they may or may not count your work with the service frat. The best service is when you go as an individual to volunteer...like at the Boys and Girls Club, or as a Big Sister, or at a museum. Your high school service probably won't count. You may have to wait until next year, but you will find out at Rush because you will have the opportunity to ask questions. good luck...

A. Hi there! I agree with everything my soror dablest1 has said already. I just want to add that we are an international organization and that we may have a chapter in the country that you are currently living in. There are chapters in Japan, The UK ,Germany, The Bahamas, Jamaica and many other countries that are active . If there is a chapter where you are ( most of them have websites) try finding out when they are having events so you can get to know the women. If you happen to be in a country where there is no chapter you can try contacting the ladies in the chapter in your hometown to express your interest so that they can know you when you return home to the US. Also if possible you can do community service where you are. This will… [cont.]

I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, how would I go about joining?
Q. I am interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and want to know how I would go about joining. What are the requirements for membership? How many activities, volunteer hours, and recommendations do I need to have in order to become a realistic candidate for membership? This past Spring was my first semester at my current school so I'm not as familiar with the members of the chapter here and I know that's one thing I need to work on in the coming semester. However I'm unsure on how I should interact with the members, should I attempt to speak with members or wait until they speak to me? When and how do I let my interest in joining the organization become known? And what is a good source for finding out more about the organization's history? [cont.]

A. check out the national website for membership requirements and a wealth of other information. also, check to see if the chapter at your school has a site. look for opportunities to hang around a Delta. you can get to know the Deltas on campus by attending their events, interact with a Delta on class projects, and be active in other campus organizations there maybe a Delta involved as well. when the time comes, Delta will announce when they are taking in new members. your interest will be evident when you attend the rush event. so sit tight. focus on having strong grades do community service that interests you and generally build up your own identity and character. the ideal candidate is an active woman. so don't be false and do activities… [cont.]

Best Advise You Can Give a Someone Who is Interested in Becoming apart of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.?
Q. I am a junior and I am a first generation college student. I have finally found the sisterhood for me, and I would love to be apart of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Is there any advise that someone is willing to give me? If so please feel free to give it to me. Anything helps. Thanks.
Asked by ~Confident~ - Tue Nov 18 13:32:34 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First, be discreet in your desire to be a member of Delta. Attend the programs they have on campus, and attend the RUSH. Next, make sure your grades are in order. We just changed our GPA requirements to 2.75, so be mindful of that. Also, get your community service hours up. I believe that when I pledged 2 years ago, you had to have 2 years of consecutive service, and I'm not sure if that's how it is now. But most importantly, be disreet. Don't go telling the whole world that you want to be a Delta. I hope that helps! Good luck with your Search for Sisterhood.

Joining a grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I have two undergrad degrees. I am interested in joining a grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. My first undergrad degree my gpa is a little shy of 2.5 however my second undergrad degree my gpa is well over 2.5. I am currently pursuing my masters degree but would like to try to join before I complete the masters degree. Which degree would be used in determining my eligibility?
Asked by The Mrs. - Mon Nov 17 00:52:34 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If your second degree is at the same school then they will use your gpa combined (So if you have a 2.3 and a 2.8 then they will more than likely average that out to see what your average and cumulative gpa is overall) Also just to give you heads up as of Jan 1st the GPA has changed for becoming a member of DST. The new requirement will be a 2.75 so you also want to keep that in mind. Good luck to you, and please let me know if you have any other questions!

A. The ones I know are scholars dedicated to service. Their attire seems to say the same. Average - I don't get that one. Fearless - absolutely! Surely you can answer your own question. Do you fit the bill? You know who you are and what your about. A sorority won't make you what you're not. When you start talking averages, let research guide you. I don't believe anyone can join as you've been advised but I hope you follow your dreams, goals and aspirations.

Becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta?
Q. I am currently enrolled in a two-year college in Miami, Fl., majoring in nursing. I will be transferring to a four year university that does not have a chapter. How do I go about contacting someone with information on how to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta and finding a local chapter? Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
Asked by Loni - Sun Apr 27 18:42:58 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I agree with Robert F on every point except the part about another chapter taking students whose chapter has been suspended or retired. If another school is not part of your school's chapter, you CANNOT pledge at another school. However, when a chapter is reactivated, members of the nearest Alumnae Chapter are given the option to reactivate the chapter. Other undergrad chapters CANNOT pledge you. Your school's chapter can only be brought back by an Alum Chapter. So I would say start there first. Contact the nearest Alum Chapter and find out what can be done. All of this information can be found on our national website: www.deltasigmatheta.org Also, if your chapter is expelled or retired, it can never come back. Sorry :( Hope… [cont.]

Do I have to wait before I can attend rush at Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae chapter?
Q. I would like to know if I have to wait before I attend a rush ( if invited) at a Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae chapter if I attend an undergraduate university where there was an active chapter?
Asked by Love M - Tue May 5 18:24:17 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When are you graduating? More info is needed. Just gonna answer what I think you are trying to ask. If you are saying that you attended or attend an undergraduate university and DST is/was active on that campus and you did not seek membership at that level will you have to wait before you attend an Alumnae chapter RUSH. If that is what you are asking the answer would be: First off you have to be invited to attend a RUSH for an Alumnae Chapter. They are not usually advertised. If you are invited there is no need to wait. There is no need to wait to seek membership into an Alumnae Chapter upon graduation if you meet the criteria. However, you may have to wait until the chapter in your area has a line.

My best advice to you, is to get to know the members of the chapter that you are interested in, Community Service, and if you are in undergrad, make sure you grades are in tact. I can't get in contact with an alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, what should I do?
Q. I'm interested in joining an alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. I've visited their website and I saw a phone number. Everytime I call, it goes straight to voicemail. I've also e-mailed them and haven't gotten a response. I'm moving to the city of the chapter in the fall, I don't know anyone and I have no way to contact them. Any ideas on what should I do?
Asked by caramelmami210 - Thu May 1 12:32:46 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You sound as if you are pressed for time, or have an urgent need to get in touch with the chapter for some reason. I'm sure you don't want to appear as if you are "stalking" the members, so why not concentrate on moving in and getting settled in your new area? You never know when you may run into a member while you are out in town, in the community, attending church, etc. Also, be aware that the chapter is busy, and will be wrapping up activities very soon since the summer is approaching. If they normally update their website, then just keep checking for them to post events in the fall when programming resumes.

A. You should definitely maintain a good GPA at least 2.75 because they have increased GPA requirement. Also you want to get involved and stay involved in community service. Any events that DST is hosting on your campus try to make an effort to attend and let your interest be known without overstepping boundaries. Start thinking about why you want to join and what exactly you can contribute to the organizations. What sets you apart from the other 100 girls interested in joining. Finally be on the look out for fliers posting date for interest meetings. Do that and you should be fine. It would be a good idea to search as much as possible. Follow your dreams and good luck!!!

A. Hi there, So after attending college, I would suggest that you focus on your grades. This is VERY important, so I would strive to at least get a 3.0 since our gpa requirement just changed to a 2.75. Next I would focus on performing community service. I would suggest that you start this now, as this will show my sorors that you are dedicated in serving your community. It will also give you at least over a year's worth of community service which you will need to get verified when applying for membership. With that being said, I would make sure you stay in connect with the person in charge of your community service so they can write you a letter of recommendation. When you start college, you should get involved with other college events.… [cont.]

Community Service for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority?
Q. I have done a lot of community service, I am now a sophomore in college and I have only been able to do a semester of community service during my freshman year so far because I had to make the complete transition to understanding the dynamics of college life. Right before that, during high school up until my graduation I continuously performed community service activities on my own. I'm going to continue volunteering as much as I can but is this a sufficient amount of community service so far to appeal to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority?
Asked by priceless_gem20 - Tue Aug 19 17:11:06 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I can not recall any specific amount of service hours needed. I have heard of some chapters requiring at least 200 hours (with proof) or at least 2 years of continuous service (with proof). I suggest that you continue doing your community service. please know that DST is highly committed to serving the community and those few that are chosen have shown this commitment.

First are the National Requirements, then School Requirements, and last but not least, chapter requirements. For example at some HBCU's you have to have a 3.0 to join an organization even though the national requirement may be 2.5. With that being said, the BEST way to find this information is going to our national website at www.deltasigmatheta.org for the national requirements. Delta Sigma Theta prides itself on community service and that is one of the MAIN reasons why we were founded in 1913.
