Depo-shot?
Q. I was on the Depo shot for about two years, its been about a year (a little longer, actually) and I still haven't gotten my period yet. Does this seem normal? I don't have any side effects that I am aware of, although very rarely I will get what feels like cramps, but I never get my period. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Help please! Also, what are the symptoms of cysts?

A. I was on the Depo shot for about four years and stopped having periods after about three months. When I went off of it, it was a year or maybe 14 months before my period returned. I seem to recall some of the crampy symptoms you describe too. It is my opinion you are fine. It takes time for the drug (hormone) to clear your system especially depending on how sensitive your body is to it. I wouldn't worry, but if you want reassurance, talk to your doctor. I'm sure he'll tell you the same. Enjoy the absence of the hassel in the meantime. :) I did. I assume by cysts you mean ovarian cysts. Many cysts go without symptoms and is why many times the only way they are discovered are during a pelvic exam. Some symptoms can be: -Lower abdominal or… [cont.]

How long after getting off the Depo shot do you start to lose the weight from it?
Q. I'm taking the Depo Shot but I feel that it is making me gain lots of weight. I work out 6 times a week. If I was to get off the shot would I lose some weight faster then normal? Or would it be the same rate as if I was not on the shot? I'm only about 20 lbs over what I want to be at.

A. I put on tons of weight on Depo, and I was eating healthy and working out. It just kept piling on until I switched birth control. I had a difficult time losing it at first, but I think that is partly because the shot can remain in your system for 6-8 months. Once it cleared out, I started losing weight fairly easily. Good luck!

Can a depo shot stop you from getting pregnant?
Q. I had two depo-provera shots three months apart so that makes six months on the depo shot. Feb. 19 was going to be my 3rd one ( depo-provera shot). The question is can I get pregnant between the date i was going to my depo-provera shot (Feb. 19th) till now ( Feb 23rd)? If not when can i plan to be pregnant?

A. Slim to none chances. It doesn't wear off the day your due. You have alittle time, but I wouldn't skip it again. Plus depo can stop you from conceiving right away. I took it for 1 yr and it took me 1 yr to conceive after i stopped taking it. My other two children I conceived the first month trying. I heard alot of people say they have a hard time conceiving after it. I wouldn't count on that though, every one is different. If you dont wanna get pregnant go get the shot

Can the depo prevera shot make your liver enzymes go higher then they should be?
Q. My liver enzymes have been high for awhile now can that be caused by the depo shot?

A. The depo prevera shot is being found to have many health risks nowadays. Many doctors will not prescribe it any more. Check on some medical forums there are other people who have had the same problems as you I bet.

How do you make the switch from the Depo shot to the pill?
Q. I have been on the Depo shot since July 2005, have no periods, slight weight gain, nipples sore. I go to bathroom often, toss and turn at night. Has anyone switched from Depo to the pill before? How long after a Depo Provera shot can I conceive?
Q. I have been on the Depo Provera shot for over a year now. I am due for my next shot March 9th but I am not going to get it. My fiance and I are concerned that the Depo shot will prevent me from being able to conceive once I am off of it. How long will it take for the shot to be out of my system so that I will be able to conceive? Also, is there anything that I can do that will increase my odds of becoming pregnant?
Asked by .::Samara::. - Wed Jan 7 15:58:16 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You should go to your Ob and talk to them about going off the shot. If you don't have a period within the first 30-45 days after the shot your suppose to get they normally give you something to jump start your period. They will also tell you to not ttc for 6 months after the shot you are suppose to get. Just what all my Dr told me. They had to give me something to take because I didn't have a period for a year after I went off the shot. The meds were every month til my cycle was regular again. Just make sure you see your OBGYN and have your normal check up before starting to get pregnant. Good luck!

How long after the depo shot until you can get pregnant?
Q. My friend got the depo shot only once and it's run out. How long after does it take to get pregnant?
Asked by crazy/beautiful - Tue Jun 24 13:48:34 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It really depends on the person. It can take up to 8 months for the shot to clear your system completely (or longer if you were on it for awhile). It is possible to get pregnant right away, so if she doesn't want to have kids yet, she needs to use another form of protection. I have read that it can take up to 18 months to conceive after the shot, though.

Will the Depo shot stop your periods the first month U R on it?
Q. I got on the Depo shot Feb 19. I have had unprotected intercourse between then and now. My periods are normally 24- 25 days apart. It will be 1 month tomorrow since my last period. I'm not even cramping and it seems as though I might not have one. Can this happen the 1st month on the shot? I have been on the shot before several yrs ago and stopped having periods 6 months into it but, to stop having them the 1st month?

A. It's different for everyone. For me, it stopped my period right away. When my mom tried it, she had her period for 3 straight months. If you're not getting any signs that your period is coming, then chances are you won't get it. But make sure you have pads just in case. You could still get a little bit of spotting.

What is the best way to lose the weight that the depo shot made me gain?

A. Just work out and eat right and hope you'll lose. I'm 2 1/2 years post depo STILL trying to lose the weight. I would never ever EVER recommend depo to anybody. I was on it for several years and I call that stuff poison. The side affects and health risks far far outweigh anything "good" about the shot.

Does Depo shot carry the same risks as birth control pill?
Q. Sister is considering going to the Depo shot and wondered if it carries the same risks for blood clots as the birth control pill? She's looking at some options before her doc's appointment next month. I could never take the regular birth control pill, so either had Loestrin or non-hormonal methods. I do know that we have a family history of increased blood clots at 60. Don't know if that is even related. My sister is in her mid-40s.

A. Yes, every form of birth control (except IUD's) will carry the same risk of blood clots. If you have a family history, then the depo shot may not be a good choice for your sister. She can most certainly talk to her doctor about what would be best for her given the family history.

How fast can I get pregnant after missing a Depo shot?
Q. I haven't had a depo shot since August 07 and recently had sex after my period. I have heard that after your period is the easiest time to get pregnant. A. I am 7 weeks pregnant and it was planned. I was on the depo-provera shot and it took me 7 months after getting off of it to conceive. According to the facts about the depro-provera shot, it can take up to 1 year to get pregnant after your last shot but, everybodies body is different. If you are not a fast breeder like myself, then you should be fine. Hope I was of some help. Good Luck!!!

All of the girls that i know that have used the depo shot have gained 30+ pounds. I exercise and eat a healthy diet but it doesnt seem to work. I have also been infertile because of it. I had a very hard time getting pregnant after using it.

How long after you quit the depo shot do you get a period?
Q. I was supposed to get my depo shot about 3 weeks ago but I decided I no longer want to be on it. How long before I should expect a period? Also I had sex about 2 weeks ago, the condom broke. Is it possible that I'm pregnant? I don't know how long the depo stays in your system. I only had 3 shots.

A. After repeated injections, infertility may persist as long as 18 months. So, it kinda depends on how long you have been taking the shot, but infertility could last a while, but generally since you have to get the shot every three months periods should begin soon after that 3 months is up with no follow up shot. I would say it is unlikely that you got pregnant since you havnt starting having a period again yet, but alot of pregnancy begin with oops and unlikely. Id keep using condoms and f/u with you GYN docotor if your periods dont start back soon. Only three shot, then you should start back on your periods soon. Like I said, if not you need to f/u with the doc that was giving the shots.

A. I was on the depo shot for 3 years and once i stopped taking it...It took me a year to get pregnant... Other disadvantages and risks of using Depo-Provera include: For pregnancy to occur, it takes an average of 10 months from the date of the last shot of Depo-Provera, but could take anywhere from 4 months to more than several years. Many women return to having regular periods approximately 6 months after quitting Depo-Provera; however, Depo-Provera can delay fertility for six months to one year after the shot has been discontinued. Some women become pregnant after a few months, other women take longer to return to a state of ovulation, which makes it difficult to predict how Depo-Provera will affect you. Is there any ways to stop the bleeding from the depo shot?
Q. My first depo shot will ends at the end of this month and now it's still bleeding since last few months. How can i make it stop? If not, how long does it usually take for it to stop bleeding and have normal period again? I'm not taking the 2nd shot btw. All answers are appreciated and i'll vote for the best one.

A. I wish you would have asked before taking the shot. No. Nothing can help, it has to stop on its own. I bled for 8 months straight with depo-provera and will never, ever take it again. It sounds great to not have to worry about birth control for 3 months at a time but a lot of people I have talked to have had this same problem. Definately don't do the second shot no matter what they tell you, they can't predict if that will stop it or not (they tried to tell me the second shot stops the bleeding). Hang in there, I hope your luck is better than mine was!
