A. My dear lad, initially when I started my career as a graphic designer, I only have a diploma in digital media design. Over the course of time, I have worked with a few agencies. Most of them didn't even bother to look at my qualifications. Point is, you need to be creative, well-versed in all the design softwares and constantly need to do a lot of research and self-improvement in your targetted field. A degree is a stepping for someone who wants to progress further as a creative director. Which is achievable while pursuing a design career. Having a strong portfolio can get you a decent design job. If you want to specialize in web design for example, you need to be proficient with softwares such as flash, dreamweaver, photoshop, html… [cont.]

I have a sketchbook and trace pad but i need high quality coloring pencils/coloring utensils that aren't too expensive, but i need to know where to get these things. Please help. If anyone has any tips on fashion designing please let me know! Thanks everyone!

A. Real fashion designers use almost anything and everything for their sketches and renderings. Some use nothing more than a basic sharpie marker and pantone color markers. Some make wonderful large sized full colour watercolor and india ink renderings. Other use colored pencils and basic micron pens. Prismacolor pencils are the standard for commercial art, and the color range and blendability means they are perfect for fashion design. Pantone markers are also popular because pantone's color matching number range is also used by thread, elastics, tapes, zipper, and other sewing notion manufacturers. A designer can say send me fifty zippers in pantone 2345 and the colour will match perfectly. (which I frequently do) I use Sakura Micron… [cont.]

What are the guidelines needed to be considered while designing a website?
Q. I am looking for a company who can design a website for me and at the same time guide me some of the prequisite required while designing so?
Asked by Samaira K - Fri Jul 11 01:50:16 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When I do websites, I have certain principles I try to follow. The first one, one I find is less popular these days, is the number of clicks someone needs to get to what they want. Optimally, this should be two, they should be able to go from your homepage to what they want in two clicks. The layout is very important, it needs to be neat and still look good, as well as fit the format of the site. The page should be compatible with most browsers, right now I recommend that the page be designed to work equally well with Internet Explorer 5-7, and Firefox 2 & 3. Finally, if it seems like an interesting feature, but doesn't add anything to the site, all you're doing is adding more problems, you're better off keeping things simple.

What is the best concept for designing a building?
Q. I don't know how to get a concept for designing.I mean where can I find a concept and how?
Asked by Snono88 - Fri Oct 10 03:20:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The best and most basic concept is that it's form should follow its function. A concert hall shouldn't have large, open spaced windows for natural light to enter. Nor should an arboretum be cluttered and darkened by to many walls and columns. An art gallery should have a decidedly different layout than a roller skating rink. A restaraunt probably shouldn't look like a medical clinic. You get the idea?

A. First of all it's necessary for you to understand the format of organizing a fashion design portfolio. Presentation can be the difference between a thumbs up and rejection. Check out this site for help: Secondly, you need to understand that starting a career in fashion designer is near impossible without attending a reputable college and gaining a network of fellow designers. A smart student doesn't pick their college on simply reputation but also pays attention to location and internship opportunities. (Internships are most important for future designers) I'm not an expert in fashion design in particular but I would recommend going to school in New York City. FIT, Parsons, School of Visual Arts and Pratt have strong reputations… [cont.]

Sewing machine for beginner who wants to start designing handbags?
Q. I don't know how to sew, but I am learning so I'm a beginner. I want to start designing handbags and am looking for a great beginner sewing machine for a good price (no more than 200 dollars) that will help me to start. Any suggestions? Website links would be nice.
Asked by Glamour, Glitter and Gold! - Sun Nov 23 12:35:20 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments

A. For most handbag fabrics, you're looking for power, and I can't think of a new $200 machine that will give that to you. You'd be far better off with a good used machine. Be sure, when you're shopping, to bring samples of the sorts of materials you want to sew. What I want for beginners in sewing: - a machine that doesn't scare you - a machine that isn't balky (cheap new machines are often very balky or need adjustments often and are rarely repairable -- just too frustrating to learn on!) - very good straight stitch - good zigzag (4-5 mm is fine, more than that is gravy) - a method of making buttonholes that makes sense to you - adjustable presser foot pressure (which helps some fabric handling issues) - accessory presser feet… [cont.]

What are the ergonomics for designing a board game?
Q. I'm doing my graphics coursework, and i'm writing a design situation for my project. I know what ergonomics means, I just can't figure out what I would write for designing a board game.
Asked by Jerra - Sun Sep 7 12:20:23 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If I'm understanding the question correctly, you should probably address things like how far a player has to reach across the board to play the game, how hard the pieces are to pick up and move, and things like that. Some of the boards on the games we had as kids were so big that we couldn't reach from one side to the other. The kid on the other side would have to move your piece for you if you couldn't reach, or you'd have to walk around the table to go move your own piece on the far side of the board.

A. Well most design school will give you some begining classes on drawing. But you will struggle if you do not have a prior grasp of the subject. I am about to finish interior design school, and i have to draw pretty much everyday, so yes its very important. BUT, if you really want to do it..go for it...practice practice practice...you can get better!!!

A. It's kind of hard to get a job at your age... just because of your age. I know as long as you have the know-how and experience you can get a job in a lot of different places (sign shops, offset printing, in-house designer, advertising, publications, stationary, web design, etc). To get your experience at your age might require some volunteer work and maybe you are already doing that since you love it so much. I'm sure you're looking for opportunities. Design a t-shirt or a power point presentation for a group you know. Do brochures for small or home businesses***. If you are really desperate go door to door giving out your business card for store owners to place on their counters. I know lots that do this. You might even get them to be… [cont.]

A. Have a look at several different mags and see how they've dealt with it.A contents list needs to be clear and concise so no fancy fonts just plain writing. The other things you put on that page, pics etc should be connected to the various articles in your contents list and here is were you can get creative as to where or how you lay them out.
