A document (noun) is a bounded physical representation of body of information designed with the capacity (and usually intent) to communicate. A document may manifest symbolic, diagrammatic or sensory-representational information. To document (verb) is to produce a document artifact by collecting and representing information. In prototypical usage, a document is understood as a paper artifact, containing information in the form of ink marks. Increasingly documents are also understood as digital artifacts.

Colloquial usage is revealed by the connotations and denotations that appear in a Web search for document. From these usages, one can infer the following typical connotations:

  • Writing that provides information person's thinking by means of symbolic marks.
  • A written account of ownership or obligation.
  • To record in detail; "The parents documented every step of their child's development".
  • A digital file in a particular format.

A. Both your canceled check and receipts if possible. And if you want to save yourself a huge and very common end-of-year hassle, get your babysitter's Soc Sec Number or EIN number NOW instead of waiting until the year end. They are required to give it to you and you are required to have it if you want to claim the Child Care Credit, but with all the identity theft issues, lots of people including babysitters are hesitant to give them out. You may have to convince her that she is required to. You could download Form W-10 from to give her. It is an official request for such a number.

How to remove the Lamination from a document?
Q. I have a laminated document. I wish to remove the lamination separated from the document. How should I do this?

A. If the lamination was made with 2 pieces of plastic merely melted together at the edges, cut off the clear plastic edging on the side. You will see a line, almost like the line at the edge of water in a glass, right next to the paper. This line is air, meaning the plastic is not adhered together there. This is where you cut. Once you have cut all edges well, you will find the lamination basically falls apart, although you do need to peel gently. If the lamination was done with sticky stuff, like tape you are out of luck (called cold lamination). However, this is a recent technique and the melt process is more common.

Q. I can't print the document in word for some reason, so I want to e-mail it to myself, but it won't allow me to do that either. It said to try inserting it from word to my e-mail address as an attachment, from my e-mail account.
