I accidentally deleted a document, but I have a hard copy. How can I get my paper back onto the computer?
Q. I accidentally deleted a word document off of my computer, but I managed to print a copy beforehand. Now I need the paper back on the computer to make revisions. I have a scanner, but I don't know if it will let me edit the document after I scan it. Is there any software that will make my scanned paper into a word document?
Asked by Andy - Mon Jan 4 21:05:09 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You could run what s called an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program (one may have come with the scanner) on the scan and convert it to text that Word can handle, but OCR is an art, not a science. I can almost guarantee that you will have to fix: 1.Mis-converted fonts. 2.Mis-read characters (i for l, for instance, o, 0 or Q mixups) 3.Mangled layout. The scanned document, as a Word file, may look nothing like the paper copy. Depending on the document s layout, you might spend a lot of time getting it close to what the original looked like. Hope that helps.

A. Use the minimize control in the upper right hand corner to shrink your two screens to half size and display them both side by side.

Q. Recently I made a copy of one of my documents and mailed the copy to the concerned department. I was wondering how to indicate them that i sent just the copy, not the original document. Is it ok to write "COPY" at any corner of the document? How to indicate it in a customary (standard) way?

Can I get an official document that was given to me notarized after unsealing the envelope?
Q. I got a salary verification letter about a month ago from my employer because I have been apt hunting. Upon choosing an apartment, I opened the envelope to take the letter to leasing office to show proof of income. Today the leasing officer told me that I would need the document notarized for them to accept it as valid proof of income. My question is this, will they notarize the document (it is the original) without the document signer (the HR Director) present? Will the Notary have to call HR to verify? I was planning on going tomorrow (Saturday) but if they have to verify then I will just wait until Monday to get it notarized because HR is not there on the weekends.
Asked by kamris - Fri Aug 17 21:55:33 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A notary does not stamp the validity of a document, but rather acts as a witness to the signature. By signing your employment verification, your boss is saying that the information contained in that verification is true. The notary checks your boss' ID then watches your boss sign. This is done to verify that your boss signed it (rather than someone just forging a made up letter). Because of this, you will need a new form, and the HR director will have to sign it in the presence of a notary. The notary cannot legally just call the HR director to verify, then stamp it. Hopefully someone at your job is a notary, otherwise you'll have to get a notary to go to the HR director's office, or the HR director will have to go to a store (usu [cont.]

How can i convert a scanned document into a word document using Windows Vista?
Q. I have recently had my laptop upgraded to run Windows Vista. I now need to convert a scanned document into a word document but find myself lost. Can anybody please, please help me as it is important. Many thanks in advance, J

A. I assume you need to be able to edit it. If that is the case, you need an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program to do that. Check the software that came with your scanner. I don't have one with mine, but it is an old scanner.

How do you stop Word 2007 shifting a new document to the right of the old document?
Q. Everytime I open a new Word 2007 document it shifts slightly to the right of the document already opened. I want it to open directly on top of the position of the already open document window. For a while, this is what happened (don't know what I did for it to do this, though), but then I re-sized the program window slightly and now new documents are back go moving right of the old one. Thanks.

A. It sounds like you are not Maximizing the Word window. Reading your question, sounds like you have to Maximize the first window. they are coming up Restored Down if you closed that document in that fashion. Maximize before you close.

How to use Endnote to create a bibliography in a seperate document?
Q. I am working on a research thesis, which is broken into a number of chapters, and I need all my references in each separate chapter document to go into ONE document to create the bibliography. Does anyone know how to tell Endnote to put the bibliography from a number of different documents into one separate document? Thanks in advance.

A. Create a master document for your thesis, and add each chapter as a subdocument. If you show the subdocuments, then format the bibliography, everything should be combined into a single bibliography at the end of the master document.

How do I properly document my husband's behavior to use to file for divorce?
Q. I have not filed for divorce or spoken to an attorney yet, but plan to in the near future. I have been writing down the things he does/doesn't do in a notebook (verbal abuse toward my child and myself, refusal to pay bills, refusal to get treatment for anger management, etc.) to take to an attorney. Is there a proper (or better) way to document this so I can have proof of his actions? He does this at home, where there are no witnesses other than myself. I am in West Virginia.
Asked by Jenn - Wed Oct 28 22:14:54 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Being faced with similar in the past, I also kept notebook being sure to mark dates and brief details of incidents. You want to have a track record going to show he has a repeatable dark side to him that should not be exposed to you nor your child. You don't need to write down everything but enough over a period of time that shows this destructive side of him. It's hard to try and record someones rages. He needs help for his problem which is deep rooted but you best step aside as soon as you can for your child's sake and don't let him draw you back into a relationship again no matter what he promises.
