Why do stores display and sell holiday items much earlier than they used to?
Q. Get this! When I was in the gift store at Cracker Barrel a few days ago, they have Thanksgiving and even Christmas items for sale. A company I work for is even selling some New Years stuff already! Several decades ago, stores didn't carry holiday stuff 2-3 months early; they waited until about a month before the hioliday. Seeing Christmas stuff being sold 3 months early seems ridiculous to me! Why are stores and other businesses selling and displaying Christmas and other holiday merchandise much earlier now than they did a few decades ago? Thanks.

A. Greed and marketing. I don't mean to be a "Grinch" but I find this overkill holiday marketing very repellent and against the genuine celebration of these holidays.

How can I start going to sleep earlier than I normally do?
Q. After school ended I started staying up later and lately I've been going to bed around 2 in the morning. I've been missing morning swim practices. My parents pay an extra 20 dollars a month for me to go to the morning practices. How can I get to sleep earlier? Every time I get in bed early I wind up playing a video game or something because I can't sleep.
Asked by goturtwig - Wed Jul 23 10:58:31 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yah the first thing, is to wake up at the right time one morning. That way you are tired earlier in the evening. Also pay attention to not drinking any caffeine or eating any sugar two hours before wanting to fall asleep. You may also want to try some physical activities such as running, playing sports, or swimming a few hours before wanting to go to sleep. Also make sure you don't have an empty stomach when trying to fall asleep. If needed eat a light late night snack after dinner. And for the time being, just don't turn your TV on or watch a movie to fall asleep. Those things will keep you awake. Good luck man.

Why does Daylight savings time start earlier and earlier?
Q. I hate it, and it keeps starting earlier and earlier and staying longer and longer. Why?
Asked by Yourface - Sun Jan 18 15:46:40 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This is not an act of nature but rather an act of congress so that there would be more daylight during the working hours for US workers. Some parts of the country still do not observe DST, regardless of when it begins or ends.

How do I get my 7 month old to go to sleep earlier in the night?
Q. My 7 month old son falls asleep at 10.30 at night and wakes around 9 to 10 in the morning. I've tried waking him up earlier in the morning so he will sleep earlier at night but then he is grumpy in the day and has lots of naps. I've tried feeding him and then putting him in his cot at about 8 but then he cries until you pick him up. What should I do?

A. Start the bedtime routine half an hour earlier every few nights(10:00 night one, 10:00 night two, 9:30 night three, etc.). You have to reset his little clock.

What test can test positive for pregnancy earlier- First response early response or first response gold?
Q. First Response Gold is a digital test, the other is a regular strip test. The company told me that the Gold test can detect 18mIU of HCG and the regular one 25mIU HCG, Which one can give an answer earlier? Thank you!

A. Logically, the Gold test would pick it up earlier. Having said that I prefer a regular strip test so you can see the line even if it is faint. I used an ept test strip at 12 DPO and got a positive in 30 seconds.

What is the best way to go to sleep earlier?
Q. This summer I have been staying up very late because my favorite television shows are on late at night. However, school starts in a month and I want to start sleeping earlier and waking up earlier that way I will be used to it when the time comes that I have to. How can I train my body to wake up earlier?
Q. I dont have trouble falling asleep or anything like that. I love to sleep and enjoy naps and stuff, maybe too much. But I have a lot of trouble waking up in the morning. I hit the snooze button way too many times and dont feel like I can get up before 8:30 or 9:00 no matter how early I go to sleep the night before. A. The only way to do it is to get up earlier and be consistent. I have not woken to an alarm clock in years. I wake up about 5-10 minutes before it goes off everyday.

When you exercise and reduce stress levels, does this make your period come earlier in the month?
Q. I need to get my period a few days earlier than I usually do, so don't say something like "omg why would you want to get it earlier?" cuz i do. so is it true that if you exercise and reduce your stress levels, that it will come a bit earlier? if not, what else can i do?

Can I get an earlier flight home from eastern Europe at any point during my vacation at no extra charge?
Q. I am staying for 3 months and I'm kinda scared to make that commitment. If there is room on an earlier flight (say weeks earlier), wouldn't they let me change my flight date if I want to?
Asked by Kalinka - Wed Feb 13 10:50:53 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Home to...where? where is home?? Yes...they will allow you to change your flights. BUT depending on the type of tickets you bought (unrestricted vs. restricted) you might be looking at a huge cost difference. Even if it's an unrestricted ticket, the price might not be the same and if it's more, you'll have to pay the difference. If it's restricted, meaning, you bought it round trip, in advance, staying the weekend, non-refundable, etc. then you are bound by the terms of the ticket price and will be charged penalties and the difference in price. Call the airline and ask them what the restrictions on your ticket are, and explain them to you. Don't just do it, and hope...you'll regret it.

Can anyone tell me who asked a question earlier concerning the least painful way to commit suicide?
Q. Earlier, someone asked if we knew of the easiest, least painful and quickest way to commit suicide. I am wondering what people told this person. I do not know how to "look up an un answered question". If you know the question I am talking about, can you direct me to it, or can you tell me how to find it own my own? Thankx in advance!

A. Sadly, that question is asked at least ten times a day in this and other sections. If you provided an answer to that question, you can look it up using the "my profile" page (it will appear under "my answers"). If you did not provide an answer to that question, you can use the "search" box above to attempt to locate it. Good luck, ~Dr. B.~
