What time do elementary school teachers get off work?
Q. I am trying to decide what to get my degree in. I am thinking about teaching and wondering what to expect (for my kids sake and daycare issues). What time of day do elementary school teachers finish work. Does it matter if it is younger grades versus older grade. Is it a family friendly occupation? I meant what time of day...do they get off when the kids get off or later?

A. I get off work when the last bus pulls out of the parking lot (around 3:30). Teaching is a very family friendly job. You can probably have your kids come to the same school that you work in if you'd like. Otherwise, most days you are able to leave right about when the kids get out. The only exceptions to that are days that you have staff meetings and other committee meetings. If you do choose to leave right when you're allowed, expect to bring a lot of work home with you. There's always planning and grading to be done. I usually get to work about 45 minutes early so that I can get a lot of that out of the way and still leave right when I can. I do a significant amount of work at home, but it's a lot more relaxed for me to just do it at… [cont.]
