How do doctors estimate fetal weight in the 3rd trimester?
Q. I just wonder what doctors go on to estimate the weight of the fetus. I've heard that sometimes doctors are quite far off in these determinations (as much as 2 lbs off) so I just wonder how they estimate this to start with. Also (if anyone knows) how often are doctors wrong when predicting the sex of the baby with an ultrasound? Thanks!

How can I best estimate flight time for a commercial scheduled flight based soley on distance in miles?
Q. I have a list of hundreds of cities and the distance between them in miles. I need to estimate how long it would take to fly between those cities. I don't have the time to manually lookup every flight combination, so just want to estimate the best I can based on the distance. Any ideas?
Asked by Kristy - Tue Mar 25 02:29:09 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You won't get a great estimate because airport times can be fickle. Flights alone can be estimated at very rough average of 400 to 450 miles per hour, from gate to gate. (that's including time spent taxiing and takeoffs, landings, aproach, etc.) Again, thats a rough estimate, and it doesn't account for baggage claim and such, but it's a start.

How do the scientists estimate the age of the fossilized corpses?
Q. Like the new one they found- they estimate the age to be 4.4 million years. How do they determine that? I know it has to do with the bone, but how exactly do they estimate exact age?
Asked by enk - Fri Oct 2 08:19:36 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. <> Almost certainly, not from the bone. Rather, it's a matter of determining the age of the stratum from which the bones came. That can be done by relative dating, perhaps radiometric dating and various other techniques. The best way to find out in this instance is to get hold of a copy of the description. That ought to include the basis of the age.

As an estimate, do Roman shades cost more or less than faux wood blinds?
Q. I can't move into my new home until December, but want to get an idea of what window coverings will cost. I estimate it would be about $3000 for faux wood blinds for my 2300 sq ft house, but have no clue how Roman shades run. Anyone know?? Would you agree both are still a lot cheaper than plantation shutters?

Q. If you have had past experience with a groomer to remove matted fur,how much would it cost?Even if you havent, how much of a estimate would you say? Also,if im to shave off my cats matted fur,do they have special ones for cats? Or can I use a regular hair remover?

A. My 22 yr old cat goes to the groomer every month or six weeks because she does not groom herself anymore. She gets a comb-out and bath for $45 or $50 dollars. For some reason the price varies those five dollars. She goes to a cats only place. I don't know if that's more expensive than a groomer who does cats and dogs. You must NOT use a depilatory or regular razor on your cat. If she is badly matted I suggest you do the groomer. Even her vet office might use clippers on her - the vet techs are very experienced in doing that. I don't know what they would charge you.

A. Why would you need an estimate to replace the thermostat? They're like $10 and you can replace it yourself in ten minutes. Seriously. Head gasket is a lot more involved, so you'll need to do more research, or tell us what you're driving and what kind of engine before you ask.

What is a reasonable cost estimate of business insurance for a cafe?
Q. I'm working up some numbers to determine the financial feasibility of opening a small (1000-1200 sq ft) cafe. Starting out with myself and no more than 2 part time employees, what should I estimate for combined liability, equipment, workers comp insurance?
Asked by Puppy_Gold - Sun Jan 13 16:40:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It really depends, but to give you a ballpark figure, I pay $1,900 per year for an 1,100 sq foot bakery in the state of IL. The worker comp is the bulk of that cost - $1,100 annually for one full time and one part time employee. I am not covered by worker comp; as an owner you can opt out. Hope this helps and best of luck!

How many labor hours would you estimate to pull two car engines and and insert one?
Q. I'm replacing my burned-out engine with one from my sister's car (which has too much other damage to be of any use, except for the engine). The mechanic's estimate on the labor hours seemed high to me. Basically, I need them to take the engine out of my car, take the engine out of my sisters car, and put her engine into my car. Nothing else.

A. There a lot more to a engine switch then you think. takeing wire off, gas line hose marking wires & hoses. trany work . If he has the hoist power tool that will cut the time down. You could get another bid on it. Most shop would not want to tough it, because they would ake no money on the parts.

A. I think the best way would be to read the book yourself and decide what questions or concerns you are (or are not) willing to explain to the young reader if he or she does not understand something of a higher maturity level. Does the book talk about drugs or sex? Are you willing to discuss these topics with the reader? Are there hard words? Does the book have complicated story lines or messages to follow? Also, on the back of some books, there is a recommended grade level or age range of an appropriate audience or reader. Good luck. =]

How do I estimate the value ($) of manufacturing and variable costs for the estimated sales revenue?
Q. I don't know exactly what information I need to calculate this, but the price is $75 per unit. The manufacturing and other variable costs amount to 35 percent of the sale price of each unit. Fixed costs in each new market are $85,000 per year. I calculated the sales revenue to be $42,896,625. How do I go about figuring this out? A. .35x + 85000 = y, is your cost line, where y is breakeven in dollars y/75 is the break even in units. The revenue line is 75x=y. Profit is the area between the revenue line and the cost line.

Q. I bumped into a car and will be paying out of pocket for the minor damage. The other driver has only got 1 estimate from dealer bodyshop. It seems like the dealer would be the most expenisve. Are independent bodyshops usually cheaper? Should I insist he get another estimate before paying what seems to be a very high estimate from the dealer?

A. yep. they charge more and do the worst work. dealerships pay their workers the least. What you should do is pay him back for his expenses not the amount of the estimate. when he gives you a receipt for work done you pay that. if he refuses offer to pay half now and the other half on completion of the work.
