What formula would I use to figure out my expected commission?
Q. So I have been trying to figure out this formula, with no success. I have spent $3.81 on advertising a certain product, and have been paid a commission of $22. So, what I need to figure out is this: What will my commission be per $100 I spend on advertising? I just need a formula to plug into Excel, because I have several different scenarios I need to know this for. Any formula suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Asked by Fred L - Tue Oct 9 14:09:25 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First find the commission per dollar =22/3.81 then multiply the answer by 100. Eg. A1 = 3.81 B1 = 22 A2 = 100 therefore B2 = (B1/A1)*A2

What formula do I use so that my excel pages will correspond with calendar dates?
Q. I have been trying to figure out a way to save some time at work, but using a formula to help me figure out how much money we have to set aside for our customers based on how many days are in the month. But months vary so the price varies. And with all of our customers, going in and changing every single formula takes a lot of time. Is there a formula that can do this for me?

A. Not sure what you mean. But try looking at: Insert/function When the box comes up type in DATE and click go. A list of all date functions will appear below. Click the one that looks appropriate. Like now() returns todays date and time. Also today() and day(1-31) or month(1-12) If this is not what you want then you may need to write a macro. It is not easy writing macros unless you learn the language. But you can record what you do as a macro then play it back and it will automatically do what you have recorded. Go to Tools/Macro/Record new macro. Then type the steps you normally do. When you have finished press the stop button on the small toolbar that will appear over the spreadsheet. Then go back to Tools/macro/macros You will get a box… [cont.]

When writing the formula for compounds, how do you know when to use parentheses?
Q. One thing I do not understand in chemistry is when a question asks 'write the formulas for the following ionic compounds', how do you know when your answer needs parentheses? For example, one question asked the formula for copper(II) nitrate, the answer is Cu(NO3)2. But in a question asking for the formula for sodium hydroxide, the answer is NaOH (with no parenthesis). So how do you know when you are supposed to use parentheses?
Asked by xlogical.harm - Thu Oct 16 16:20:34 2008 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. You use parentheses when the formula contains more than one of the same polyatomic ion. in the example you gave, nitrate is a polyatomic ion of NO3 with a charge of negative 1. copper (II) has a charge of positive two. So to balance it out, you need two nitrates. you cannot write NO32 because then it looks like there is 32 oxygen. when you write it as (NO3)2, you have two polyatomic ions.

What is the formula of finding the shortest formula leading to a huge number?
Q. For example, what is formula that leads precisely to number 9342352, and what is the formula on which you have found it? Formula122 Exactly, by formula I mean what MathMan TG has already answered (thanks!). But, I need to find the shortest formula. Look, the first formula you have put, in fact can be shortened to 25456 * 367. More precisely i look for something like: x at y power * z or + z If my number 9342352 has 7 characters in total, I need a formula that in total will have less characters. Is that possible?
Asked by solicromania - Sat Feb 7 16:11:18 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. What do you mean by formula ? You can factor the number: 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 37 *43 * 367 by various methods, the most basic of which is dividing by successive primes. Or 2 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 173 * 1000 + 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 11 which can be shortened to 54 * 173000 + 32 * 11 Along with unlimited other possibilities.

I also give her 1 container of stage 1 baby food and 2-3 tablespoons of cereal. What excel formula can I use to automatically generate a rating that s one notch below the original rating?
Q. I have a portfolio of securities and I would like to simulate a result under a situation in which all the securities get downgraded one notch. For example, if I have a security currently rated Aaa by Moodys, what formula can I use to make it downgrade to Aa automatically? I need a formula that can work with the whole portfolio. Thanks.
Asked by zhl2o3 - Thu Dec 6 17:09:10 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First, you have to set up a table(a simplified version of 4 ratings) say in A1:B3 you have A1 A A2 B A3 C B1 B B2 C B3 D use a vlookup formula to lookup the downgraded rating, VLOOKUP(lookup_value ,table_array ,col_index_num ,range_lookup ) is the general format of the function, say the cell you want to show the downgraded rating is D1, so in D1, you put =VLOOKUP( C1, A1:B3, 2, false) C1 is the cell that has the original rating A1:B3 is the table you build above 2 is the second column of that table you want the desire rating to return if there's a match false is use because we expected there's an exact match

What is a formula to explain why increasing CO2 in water leads to a lower pH?
Q. I understand that carbon dioxide is soluble in water, but how does that lead to a lower pH, and how would I write a formula to show that? Also: What is a formula I can use to explain how a lower pH would affect the CO3 in the ocean? Why? How would a change in the CO3 affect the calcification rate in a coral reef?

A. CO2 conbine with water to form carbonic acid H2CO3 Low pH will cause a reaction with CO32- which is bacis and eventually reduce the amount of CO32- available for calcification

Start by clicking the VIEW tab then click Macros. Now click Record Macro. You can give it a name if you want and choose a letter key to run the macro manually (I use z). Next click OK and click the 1st cell you want to delete then hit the DELETE key. Goto the 2nd cell to empty then hit the DELETE key. Do this to each cell you want emptied and when you are done go back to the top toolbar and click Macos then click STOP REC. Now whenever you hit CTRL z together you will empty the cells you chose. A. One hit gets you high, but gravity gets you low. Calculate the time it takes for the speed to reach zero. You get that by dividing the speed and the gravity. Then you multiply that time by the speed at which you're getting higher, and do the difference with half of the gravity time square. And that's how calculate how high you get.

How long can you keep the formula in the bottle after feeding?
Q. Is that true that you can only keep the formula in the bottle after eating. My 10 weeks old baby sometimes will only eat 2 oz of 4oz and then she go to sleep for 2 to 3 hours. Should I make a new bottle or I can give her the same one . On the formula box it's said only for 1 hour . It's it true? It just formula is so expensive and I want what best for my baby!!! Any tips??

A. Formula is expensive. But you need to follow the directions for the sake of the baby. If she drinks out of it, you need to throw it away after an hour of her starting to drink from it. Since it is expensive, do what i used to do. If you make a 4 oz bottle and she usually drinks only 2 ounces, then put half in a clean bottle. This way, if she wants more after the 2 ounces, then you can just pour it into the bottle you are already feeding her. Or, if she doesnt want more, then just put the milk that she hasnt drank in the fridge for later. If she *ALWAYS* only drinks 2 oz, then only make 2oz bottles for her. Good luck! **ADD ON** It doesnt matter if you make a 4 oz bottle, she drinks 2 oz, and then you put it in the fridge. It STILL needs… [cont.]

what formula can i use in excel to calculate expenses based on the income of 2 people?
Q. If i make $3000 a month and my roommate $2000 i need to know how to calculate expenses based on both of our incomes without doing the 50/50 deal. I'd like to use excel. Does anyone have a template or at least the formula?

A. Sure... if you would like to make it proportional to your incomes, just take 3000 / 5000 * each expense for your portion (5000 is the sum of your incomes monthly), and 2000 / 5000 * each expense for your roommate. Or, more simply, 60% for you and 40% for your roommate. In Excel you can use, if an expense were in cell A1: =3000/5000*A1 To get your portion, or =2000/5000*A1 for your roommate's. Does that help?
