Alternative spellingsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Faith is the confident belief or trust in the truth or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing. The word "faith" can refer to a religion itself or to religion in general. As with "trust", faith involves a concept of future events or outcomes, and is used conversely for a belief "not resting on logical proof or material evidence." Informal usage of the word "faith" can be quite broad, and may be used in place of "trust" or "belief." Faith is often used in a religious context, as in theology, where it almost universally refers to a trusting belief in a transcendent reality, or else in a Supreme Being and/or this being's role in the order of transcendent, spiritual things. Faith is in general the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true. It is the belief and the assent of the mind to the truth of what is declared by another, based on his or her authority and truthfulness. The English word faith is dated from 1200–50, from the Latin fidem, or fidēs, meaning trust, akin to fīdere, which means to trust. Allegory of faith, by L.S. Carmona (1752–53). Veil symbolizes the impossibility to know directly the evidences. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Any person of faith, do you have a logical argument as to why your religion is right and the others are wrong? Q. I don't think I have ever heard of a faith that said the others are also correct. And they can't all be right, so what is the reasoning behind your determination that "religion x" is the one true religion? Asked by 13Fst - Mon Nov 16 18:29:29 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Mine is Wicca, and it is nature based. Men AND women get equal value. It accepts gays and does everything good and right that Christianity refuses to do. And it's golden rule is to do what you will, but harm none. Perfect, in my opinion. But it's about what religion is right for YOU, not everyone. Some people would be miserable as christians, and others would love it. You only stick with it if you believe it and connect with it. Just like Wicca and I. Does that make sense? Answered by Hilary :] - Mon Nov 16 18:43:37 2009 Christians, is the faith others have in their belief systems their strength or their weakness? Q. If their faith in their belief system is keeping them from believing in yours, is that a strength or a weakness on their part? Why, or why not? From my perspective, I think it can be asked equally of Christians, too: is their faith a strength that helps them to do good in the world (give charity, give succor to the needy, act honestly in their dealings, etc.), or is it a weakness that keeps them from doing good (condemning others, compromising this world in favor of the next, denying scientific advances that could help humankind if fully explored, imposing problematic mores on the population generally, justifying war)? It's genuinely hard to say. Of course, for people who are religious, there is also the added and important layer of belief, which complicates this further. Presumably a believer in one religion at some level "ge [cont.] Answered by SK - Wed Dec 16 13:24:12 2009 What is the difference between hope and faith?
Q. Hope and Faith If hope is not rooted in faith are you not wasting energy throwing empty hope to the wind? And if your hopes are grounded in faith, doesn't your faith eliminate the need to hope? Since faith is believing in things unseen and claiming them as done? Yet here I sit filled with faith and belief hoping. Does my hope make a mockery of both and offend the One who hears?
