How much should i be feeding my 6 month old kittens?
Q. My kittens birthday is on the 1st of July 2007. The turned 6 months old 1 week ago. Before they turned 6 moths old i was feeding them 4 meals a day with half a kitten pouch each, they are VERY healthy kittens! Some websites say now that they have turned 6 months old i should be feeding them 3 meals a day with 1 pouch each and some say other things! What should i be feeding them?

A. The "pouches" are the lowest quality cat food you can purchase - full of god knows what meat scraps, artificial coloring and flavor additives. If you will feed them a healthy food such as Wellness canned and Wellness kitten food they should both be able to put away a 5.5 oz can per day and whatever dry food they want. They don't need to eat as OFTEN now and because they have grown and are still growing they will need at least the same amount of food if not more.

A. The total lack of knowledge here is astounding! Jen is the only one who has a clue what she's talking about. When the puppies around 3 - 4 weeks old they will start getting teeth and Mom will be a lot less enthusiastic about feeding them. She will let them nurse, but they can start being introduced to puppy gruel. I take condensed milk (canned goat milk is good) and puppy food, put it in the blender and make a soupy gruel. I then heat it up slightly so that it's room/body temperature. It's best if you have one of those puppy pans that is raised in the middle so the food doesn't end up in the middle of the pan, but you can actually use a pie pan or cake pan in a pinch. I take two or 3 of the puppies and plunk them right down in… [cont.]

How much should I be feeding my puppy?
Q. I have a rotweiler chow mix puppy. He is about 30 pounds and is 3 months old. I feed him a cup at 7am and a cup again at 7pm. He gobbles it down so fast. Middle of the day is acts like he is starving. My question is how much should I be feeding him so that he gets his calorie needs but, not supporting obesity? The dog food bag isn't really a big help. I am feeding him what the vet recommended but, that was a month ago. Any suggestions?

A. If you are using a good dog food (not the purina puppy chow type stuff), there should be better guidelines stating the week/month they are in, their weight, and how much food they should get per day. I would call the vet again. And please don't listen to the moron that told you to open the bag and let the dog to to town!! I use Nutro Ultra large breed puppy food from Petsmart and it has great guidelines for the amount to feed. Good Luck.

A. Your kitten needs to be fed a high quality dry food. Wet food can cause diarrhea. If you decide to change to a different type of food do it gradually over about a period of 5 days to prevent stomach upset. I recommend Science Diet Kitten Formula. Yes, kitty needs to be drinking water and not milk. She's probably drinking while your not watching her. Plus she's getting some water from her wet food. As far as the fleas: Bathe her in dawn dish detergent and then wait 2 days and apply Revolution to prevent re infestation. You can get Revolution at the vets office. You also need to treat your house...if your kitten has fleas and has EVER been in your house your house is now infested. If you don't treat the house the kitten will continue to get… [cont.]

A. None. Eukanuba is not exactly a quality kibble. And the higher quality the kibble the less you need to feed because the dogs actually get nutrition from the nuggets, not waste and filler. Look into some healthier foods, like blue buffalo, taste of the wild, etc...

A. Ooh, so sorry for you loss. Mom feeds them once or twice a day for about a minute or two. Try twice a day as much as will fill their tummies (they will fill fast). If you can save some droppings from mom put them in with the babies. They will eat them and get some beneficial bacteria from them. Put some pellets in with them when they can get around well on their own but keep giving them the milk until they are 6 to eight weeks old decreasing the amount of time you let them lap it up. They should be eating pellets well by this time and be fine to go to new homes. Watch for signs of enteritis (diahrea) during this time. When they can nibble pellets you can also give them a tablespoon or so of old fashioned rolled oats (not… [cont.]

How many meal worms should I be feeding my juvenile leopard gecko?
Q. I bought a juvenile leopard gecko a couple weeks ago. I thought I was supposed to be feeding him 2-3 meal worms every other day, but found out I'm actually supposed to be feeding him every day. How many of these meal worms should I be feeding him daily? Some websites say feed as many as they will eat and others say feed around 4. I feel terrible about starving the little guy and want to get this right.

A. Well I normally depends on the little guys appitite. if its a larger leo gecko it will probably eat about 4-5 a day. If it leans toward being smaller then I would recommend about 3 a day. Hope this helps:)

What good does feeding quail to a snake do?
Q. a lot of times online stores that sells frozen rodents also sell quails and chickens... I am wondering what good does feeding a snake a quail do?
Asked by raynefreak - Sun Sep 30 00:55:34 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. By feeding a variety of foods, snakes get a better range of nutrients. Does that make sense? So, there could be some small deficiency that is filled better by another type of food. Feeding quail, specifically, doesn't do any good, but offering a range of foods is beneficial.

A. 6 months is about the average time. Also, you should steam the veggies or cook them, blend them, strain the cellulose out, and then they're good to go. A word to the wise for ease of food: fill ice cube trays with the veggies and freeze them. One ice cube worth of food is one serving. It's quite easy then! Just thaw and feed! LC-B

What is a good feeding routine for my 2 cats?
Q. I am currently only feeding my cats dry food (Innova EVO), but I would like to add some canned/wet food into their diet. How much and how often of each should I feed them everyday? They are both 2 years old and weigh around 11-14 lbs. They're not overweight.

A. Make sure that dry food is always availble and give them 1/4 of a can of some wet for each of them twice a day. Also a dry food diet is filled with carbohydrates, so in actual fact a mixed diet of wet and dry food is best. Plus, cats love wet food :)

When do I start feeding my red tail boa every 2 weeks rather than every week?
Q. He's a little over a year old now and a bit over 3 feet long. He's up to small rats every week, and is doing very well. But I've read in care sheets that eventually you want to start feeding them every 2 weeks rather than every week. When do I make this transition?
Asked by trinilim - Mon Aug 20 16:32:33 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Honestly, when I transitioned into feeding every 2 weeks my red tail became more aggressive and actually bit me 2 times. I would stick with the once a week feeding or go maybe every 10 days, like the 10th, 20th, and last day of the month schedule, a happy red tail is one who isn't hungry. You don't necessarily have to have a big size difference's in the feeding rats, maybe sm. to medium, she should be content with this, however her character is the only way to tell, if she is steady "hunting" for feed, keep feeding her 1 wk. sm to med. rats. Just wait at-least 24 hrs up to 48 after feeding to handle her.

A. The mother will produce milk and let the kittens nurse on her. You only need to feed a kitten if the mother will not nurse it, if the mother is not producing enough milk for all of the kittens, or if one or more kittens will not nurse to get enough food. Most of the time the mother cat take care of all of the feeding until she decides it is time to wean the kittens off her milk and on to solid food. Normally, the kittens, as they are being weaned, will eat the same food you are providing for the mother. When the kittens are being weaned, it is a good idea to make sure that they are getting enough wet and dry food. Q. I have a litter of 4 kittens that are 1 week old. When should i start feeding them?

When do I start feeding my daughter baby food?
Q. My daughter is 4 1/2 months old and started eating baby cereals when she was 4 months old. I've done a lot of research and a lot of sites say babies can start eating veggies and fruits at 4-6 months. I really just want to know when you started feeding your babies fruits and veggies. Thanks for the help! Oh yeah, also wondering if veggies or fruits come first? I'm assuming veggies, but correct me if I'm wrong!

A. I would wait for 6 months to introduce fruits and veggies. What I did was introduce one veggie, wait a few days, then a fruit, then veggie, then fruit. It doesn't matter too much. My son likes both. But, if you mix and match them, then after 4 foods, you can have a better variety for breakfast and dinner.

How can I start breast feeding if I have no breastmilk?
Q. I had my twins on Friday, they were born at 35 weeks by c-section. They are currently at the NICU at the hospital and I would like to take them some breast milk to start feeding them, but I have no breast milk. I have a manual pump that my mom brought me and I tried it but nothing happens. After pumping for a couple of minutes, theres only like 2-3 drops of colostrum. Am I supposed to keep trying until something comes out? Or is there anything I can do to make it start flowing?

A. Congratulations on your twins! I completely understand what you are going through. I needed to pump my breastmilk while my 35week gestation son was in the NICU for 3 weeks. However for the first 4 days I would only get 1-2 drops of colostrum after 20 minutes of pumping! It may not seem like a lot, but give that colostrum that you are getting to the nurses; even a little bit will help. My milk took about 5 days before it came in. And it was a week before I felt like I was actually getting a respectable amount. You really need a more powerful pump than a manual one. Especially as you are getting your milk supply started. With as much as you will be pumping you need a powerful one. A manual one will take you about an hour to get… [cont.]

How do I know when to stop breast feeding?
Q. I currently exclusively breast feed my 4mnth old baby. He was a big baby at birth 10lb12, so larger than the average baby , and Im beginning to wonder if he needs something heavier than breast milk. He seems to be feeding every two hours and still wakes several times in the night for feeding. (although he goes down at approx 7 and then wakes around 2am but then almost every 2hrs again after that) How do I know when to start weaning? Should I switch to formula?

A. Well done on getting this far! Breast milk is the perfect food for your baby, and at the moment he doesn't need anything else. It is recommended by the World Health Organisation that you don't feed anything but breast milk for the first 6 months. have a chat with your Health Visitor and see if she can offer you help and support
