Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role. Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in "food for thought". GNU Free Documentation License Foods and natural vitamins to strengthen heart and lungs of elderly patients? Q. Are there any foods which have special vitamins or attributes to help people with COPD and CHF? Apparently there are millions of elderly people in the USA which suffer from either or both these. I have heard of Omega occurring naturally in fish, but COPD/CHF people have a lot of problems, such as getting too much carbon dioxide in their blood because of the breathing difficulty, as well as having to watch the salt intake_and apparently acid food. Would any type of fish be okay? Should I just keep away from a certain type of fish? And most importantly is there any vegetable or food they should eat more of? Try and give variety...2 portions with each meal and make sure the veg are different colours. Do not over cook them, steam lightly. Fish is good for everyone. Salmon, tuna, mackerel and other oily fish are best. Answered by huggz - Sat Sep 1 09:39:16 2007 What foods cause acne and darker skin? What foods help skin stay claer and bright? Q.
