Is switching from good start formula to similac formula a good idea?
Q. I have a 5 month old baby. I still breastfeed at night but I started supplementing good start formula at 2 1/2 months because of work. I have talked to my doctor multiple times about his spitting up,gassyness, and fussiness. He told me to keep using the formula because his stomach is still getting used to it. So I changed to similac formula early sheild. Was that the right thing to do?
Asked by Deserea - Tue Sep 22 10:09:10 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. heads up you are the mom if you think that the good start is not working for your child then you have all rights to change it. 2.5 months is a long time if your child still is not adjusting good then I would change it. It took me 2 formulas with my first child and started my 2nd child on the same as the first then came #3 and it took 4 different kinds ended up with allementum and with my daughter i used carnation good start. Don't ever double question your ability as a mother to know when your child needs something different to work with!

What is the formula of finding the shortest formula leading to a huge number?
Q. For example, what is formula that leads precisely to number 9342352, and what is the formula on which you have found it? Formula122 Exactly, by formula I mean what MathMan TG has already answered (thanks!). But, I need to find the shortest formula. Look, the first formula you have put, in fact can be shortened to 25456 * 367. More precisely i look for something like: x at y power * z or + z If my number 9342352 has 7 characters in total, I need a formula that in total will have less characters. Is that possible?
Asked by solicromania - Sat Feb 7 16:11:18 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. What do you mean by formula ? You can factor the number: 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 37 *43 * 367 by various methods, the most basic of which is dividing by successive primes. Or 2 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 173 * 1000 + 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 11 which can be shortened to 54 * 173000 + 32 * 11 Along with unlimited other possibilities.

What is the difference between toddler formula and baby formula?
Q. I have switched my 4 month old Baby Boy to Baby's Only Dairy Toddler Formula because it seems to be the most organic formula out there, and because I have compared it's ingredients to other infant formulas and it seems to be equal. Does anyone know any medical facts or information about this?
Asked by Kurt's Mama - Wed May 20 01:21:35 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, I think they are quite similar. Baby's Only is an "organic" formula, which mostly markets itself as "toddler" because the company does in fact believe, as do medical experts, that breast milk is far and away the most healthy thing to feed an infant. Infants should be getting breast milk, not formula. At least, that is what I have heard about the company. Otherwise, I would just wonder if it contains DHA/ARA and iron supplementation. There are no other differences.

How much formula should my newborn be eating?
Q. My son is almost a week and 1/2 old. I'm not able to breastfeed because my milk never came in. I've been feeding him about 2 ounces of formula at each feeding but the last couple days I've noticed that he'll wake up more than 2 or 3 hours and still be hungry. What's the most formula that I should be feeding him at each feeding?

Asked by Baby #1 due March 25th...yayyy - Wed Oct 21 10:23:32 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First breastmilk is best and you really don't need any supplementation. The baby could get nipple confusion and refuse to nurse. But if you are planning to pump, I pump for my daughter and feed her the milk in a bottle. (She couldn't latch due to being in the nicu for 24 hours and decided she wanted to keep feeding from the bottle). She only has to have 1 bottle of formula every other day. I almost make enough, but not quite. I give her 4 oz at a nighttime feeding. I have to feed it while she's still asleep a little or she won't take it. She wants breastmilk over formula. We use Goodstart formula because it is easiest to digest and only has whey proteins. The casein proteins in other formulas cause curdling the tummy and can cause more… [cont.]

What consistency should the dirty nappies of formula fed babies be and how have often should they have them?
Q. I have had to stop breast feeding my 6 week old baby and have put her on formula. I have read that babies on formula have one dirty nappy a day but my little girl has a dirty nappy every feed, which is watery with bits of formula in it. Does anyone know if this is normal, she's only been on formula a day.
Asked by Tracey L - Tue Feb 10 06:44:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Every child is different. As long as she is not in pain when passing poo, and is feeding well there is no problem. Some breast fed babies dirty their nappies at every feed some at two or three feeds. The same is true of formula fed babies. If her dirty nappies remain watery then she should be seen by a Dr and a specimen sent in case she has a gastric infection.

What is a formula to explain why increasing CO2 in water leads to a lower pH?
Q. I understand that carbon dioxide is soluble in water, but how does that lead to a lower pH, and how would I write a formula to show that? Also: What is a formula I can use to explain how a lower pH would affect the CO3 in the ocean? Why? How would a change in the CO3 affect the calcification rate in a coral reef?
Asked by Generally Confused - Sun Aug 24 14:06:48 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. CO2 conbine with water to form carbonic acid H2CO3 Low pH will cause a reaction with CO32- which is bacis and eventually reduce the amount of CO32- available for calcification

What is enough formula to give a 3 month old?
Q. Hello, my daughter is 3 months old and I recently increased her formula intake from 4 to 6 oz every 3-4 hours. But ever since I've increased her formula intake she sleeps alot more. She used to stay up the majority of the day but now, after every feeding she falls asleep for 1-2 hours at a time. She's still sleeping through the night but I wanted to know if this is normal or if I should decrease her intake back to 4 oz. The reason I increased her intake is because she was still hungry after the 4 oz. Thank You.

A. Sounds normal to me. My son wanted about 5 ounces at every feeding at that age and cooked whole grain cereal twice a day in addition around 4 months. You'll find as they grow that their routines will shift around a little bit. It's OK.

How long can you keep the formula in the bottle after feeding?
Q. Is that true that you can only keep the formula in the bottle after eating. My 10 weeks old baby sometimes will only eat 2 oz of 4oz and then she go to sleep for 2 to 3 hours. Should I make a new bottle or I can give her the same one . On the formula box it's said only for 1 hour . It's it true? It just formula is so expensive and I want what best for my baby!!! Any tips??
Asked by janya b - Mon Jul 7 19:45:52 2008 - - 12 Answers - 2 Comments

A. Formula is expensive. But you need to follow the directions for the sake of the baby. If she drinks out of it, you need to throw it away after an hour of her starting to drink from it. Since it is expensive, do what i used to do. If you make a 4 oz bottle and she usually drinks only 2 ounces, then put half in a clean bottle. This way, if she wants more after the 2 ounces, then you can just pour it into the bottle you are already feeding her. Or, if she doesnt want more, then just put the milk that she hasnt drank in the fridge for later. If she *ALWAYS* only drinks 2 oz, then only make 2oz bottles for her. Good luck! **ADD ON** It doesnt matter if you make a 4 oz bottle, she drinks 2 oz, and then you put it in the fridge. It STILL needs… [cont.]

What is the best way to prepare infant formula?
Q. I am beginning my little guy on formula, and my Pediatrician really didn't give any specifics on preparation. I've read to boil or not to boil (either to sterilize the water or to prevent bacterial infections from the powdered formula itself). We have a purification system for our faucets...but do I still need to boil the water and add the formula while it's hot to avoid bacterial infections from the powdered formula? Help! I know this may sound 101 basics, but there is so much conflicting info to overwhelm a new mommy like myself! Thanks for any advice!

A. Nah, I wouldn't worry about boiling the water, especially if you have a purification system. We add the (cold) water to the bottle first, then put in the required scoops and stir (my husband shakes the bottle, I stir; either way will work).

A. gross/net*100 (this will be greater than 100% because you're dividing a smaller number (net) into the larger number(gross) or what % of 500.00 is 564.38 Just switch the net and gross and this %age will be less than 100% net/gross*100

How to find empirical formula with only the mass of the reactants?
Q. I need some help with a problem for Honors Chem. II. I know the definition of empirical formula, but I don't know how to find it with just the given information. When 1.5*10^-2 g of an organic substance containing only C, H, and O is combusted in an excess of oxygen, 0.0267 g of CO2 and 0.0176 g of H2O are recovered. What is the empirical formula? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Asked by lutherjw - Tue Sep 29 17:17:14 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1) determine the mass of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. carbon:0.0267 g x (12 / 44) = 7.282 mg hydrogen: 0.0176 g x (2 / 18) = 1.956 mg oxygen: 15 - 7.282 - 1.956 = 5.762 mg 2) convert to moles. carbon: 7.282 / 12 = 0.6068 mmol hydrogen: 1.956 / 1 = 1.956 mmol oxygen: 5.762 / 16 = 0.3601 mmol 3) divide each molar amount by the lowest value to obtain small integers carbon: 0.6068 / 0.3601 = 1.685 hydrogen: 1.956 / 0.3601 = 5.432 oxygen: 0.3601 / 0.3601 = 1 For a simple compound we would have gotten small integers indeed... Multiplying by 12 gives a ratio of 20.2: 65.2: 12, but I don't guarantee that is the correct answer.
