Runic Amulets and Magic Objects The runic alphabet, in use for well over a thousand years, was employed by various Germanic groups in a variety of ways, including, inevitably, for superstitious and magical rites. Formulaic runic words were inscribed onto small items that could be carried for good luck; runic charms were carved on metal or wooden amulets to ensure peace or prosperity. There are invocations and allusions to pagan and Christian gods and heroes, to spirits of disease, and even to potential lovers. Few such texts are completely unique to Germanic society, and in fact, most of the runic amulets considered in this book show wide-ranging parallels from a variety of European cultures. The question of whether runes were magical or not has divided scholarship in the area. Early criticism embraced fantastic notions of runic magic - leading not just to a healthy scepticism, but in some cases to a complete denial of any magical element whatsoever in the runic inscriptions. This book seeks to re-evaulate the whole question of runic sorcery, attested to not only in the medieval Norse literature dealing with runes but primarily in the fascinating magical texts of the runic inscriptions themselves. |

Straight From the Heart (CD) Soul CD - A lean, tough set that was not only a triumph for Peebles, but illustrated how the Hi label had surpassed its crosstown Stax rival for quality Memphis soul in the early '70s. The guitars are spare, funky, and bluesy, the horn section punchy, and the material far earthier and down-home than the increasingly formulaic grooves at Stax. There were three modest R&B hits on the album ("Slipped, Tripped and Fell in Love," "I Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home," "Somebody's on Your Case"), much of which was penned by Peebles or her husband Don Bryant. Peebles' vocals were convincingly biting, and she never, unlike many other singers of the era, tried too hard for her own good. The main flaw of the record is its length (26 minutes), which was short even by early-'70s standards. - Straight From the Heart (CD) |

GHR 15 Powder, 140g GHR-15 Powder GHR 15 powder is an all-natural hormone releaser that builds on the historic HGH anti-aging breakthroughs. GHR 15 is a formulaic blend, taken orally and created to absorb quickly and effectively in the stomach. From there the GHR 15 is transferred to the Pituitary Gland where it triggers the production of your own growth hormone HGH. GHR 15 uses HGH releasers or agonists -- ingredients that bring about the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. By using these agonists, GHR 15 is able to stimulate your pituitary to secrete extra HGH and then accentuate them to full potential with a proper diet and HGH-releasing exercises. Twenty amino acids form the building blocks of all proteins and are needed for the body to make the proteins of enzymes, many hormones, muscle, bone, skin, organs, etc. A number of these amino acids have been shown to induce growth hormone secretion -- and GHR 15 stacks them in such a way that maximizes their benefits. GHR 15 is a revolutionary product based on years of anti aging research. This body of research explains that the most important change as we grow older is a decrease in HGH or Human Growth Hormone in the body. When developing GHR 15, scientists set out to combat the signs of aging. What they discovered was even more startling-they found that patients injected with a combination of selected herbs, vitamins, amino acids, glycine and minerals could revert the body's production of HGH, which returns the body's HGH levels to the levels they had been in their youth. This not only postponed the aging process, but actually reversed their biological clock by years. GHR 15 helps to release the HGH from the pituitary gland. GHR15 Nutrition Facts: Serving Size (scoop) 2 Anterior Pituitary, (Bovine) (mg) 2.8 Hypothalamus (mg) 4 Saccharides (mg) 2500 L-Glutamine (mg) 100 L-Arginine (mg) 100 L-Pyroglutamine (mg) 100 L-Glycine (mg) 300 L-Lysine (g) 200 L-Tyrosine (g) 200 GABA (g) 100 Suggested Use: Dissolve two (2) scoops |

GHR-15 Growth Hormone Booster $24 GHR15 Growth Hormone Releaser is a revolutionary new product based on 8 years of anti aging research. This body of research explains that the most important change as we grow older is a decrease in HGH or Human Growth Hormone in the body. HGH is produced and secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain abundantly in our youth. During this time, it sends chemical signals through out the body which gives the body energy, high metabolism, mental competence, helps speed tissue repair, increases muscle strength, improves skin tone, and strengthens immune and nervous systems. Between the ages of 21-61, HGH levels drop an average of 80%. As the bodies HGH levels begin to decline, signs of aging such as excess body fat, bone fragility, weak-wrinkled skin, reduced energy, and loss of memory increase. With this research, scientists set out to combat the signs of aging. What they discovered was even more startlingthey found and that patients injected with a combination of selected herbs, vitamins, amino acids, glycine and minerals could revert the bodys production of HGH which returns the bodies HGH levels to the levels to what they had been in their youth. This not only postponed the aging process, but actually reversed their biological clock by 20 years or more. GHR15 is an all natural Hormone releaser that builds on the historic HGH anti-aging breakthroughs. Slashing costs and offers an alternative to expensive HGH injections. GHR15 is a formulaic blend, which is taken orally and created to absorb quickly and effectively in the stomach. From there it is transferred to the Pituitary Gland where you begin it triggers the production of your own growth hormone HGH. Almost immediately you will begin to see the benefits of HGH return and the signs of aging disappear making you look and feel younger. What This Means To The Consumer Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is like estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, melatonin or DHEA one of many endocrine hormones that decline in production |

The Day After Tomorrow (DVD) The science behind this one may be a little shaky -- the possibility of a new Ice Age sweeping the planet overnight is pretty remote. But once you can get past the basic implausibility of the premise, you'll find that The Day After Tomorrow is, well, one of the coolest pictures to come along in quite a while. It's really a throwback to those great Irwin Allen disaster movies of the '60s and '70s. Allen's 1961 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, for example, took the opposite tack and posited that Earth's atmosphere could catch fire overnight. You take a group of people with disparate backgrounds, interests, and agendas; throw them together in a life-threatening situation caused by Mother Nature; and see how many of them survive to discover a means of reversing (or escaping) the effects of the calamity. In this case, climatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), having foretold the possibility of global warming suddenly triggering a new Ice Age, gets no satisfaction from seeing his prediction come true -- because his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) is trapped in New York City, which has already been swamped by a tidal wave and essentially frozen solid. As the planetary freezing moves southward, Jack heads northward to rescue Sam and others that may have survived. Director Roland Emmerich, no stranger to such apocalyptic goings-on, marshals assistance from his art director, cinematographer, and special-effects team to make this frigid farrago convincing, and it's to his credit that he succeeds admirably. Formulaic plotting and stereotypical characters aside, The Day After Tomorrow, like Jack Hill himself, plots a course and doggedly pursues it to a successful conclusion. Although the submersion of Manhattan by tidal wave was done fairly convincingly in 1933's Deluge, that film's visuals don't begin to compare to the digital magic conjured up by Emmerich's special-effects sorcerers. There probably isn't a viewer on the planet -- in hot or cold climes -- that won't feel a chill up .. |

The Sitcom Is Dead. Long Live the Sitcom! The scripted television comedy series was first presented to audiences via the 'sitcom' form and thus the sitcom has continued to be defined by many of the characteristics with which it was first identified in the 1950s. In examining the evolution of the American comedy series, this book seeks to highlight the similarities between the formulaic studio-bound approach to series comedy (the sitcom) and more contemporary innovations in aesthetic production modes, such as those employed in the 'single-camera' comedy. This investigation comes to view the comedy series as being characterised definitively by its narrative conventions rather than its visual style, and it thus redefines the term 'sitcom' in a manner which better encompasses the series comedy genre as a whole. The sitcom is explored through aesthetic, narrative, commercial and ideological frameworks in order to highlight salient aspects of its generic form, commercial function, ideological flexibility and future potential. The analysis of specific case studies demonstrates the tension between innovation and convention which continues to characterise the sitcom's evolution as a televisual form. |

In The Mix Full Screen DVD R&B star Usher makes an assured screen debut in this mix of mob movie and romantic comedy. Chazz Palminenteri co-stars as the friendly don who recruits family friend Darrell (Usher) to play bodyguard for his daughter, Dolly (Emmanuelle Chiriqi). She and Darrell have been friends since they were kids, but the seven years since they last saw each other have changed things. She's grown into a headstrong young law student with a yen for yoga and a smug yuppie boyfriend (Geoff Stults); he's grown into an ultra-smooth chick magnet with dreams of starting his own record company. They're destined for each other, but there's not only the racial issue in their way--someone's trying to take over the family business via treachery and bullets, and Darrell's right in the thick of things. When the interracial romance isn't heating up the screen, there's plenty of raucous comedy supplied by Anthony Fazio as Dolly's pseudo-gangsta younger brother, Kevin Hart as Darrell's loudmouthed co-DJ, and a bulldog with an unfortunate digestion problem. Director Ron Underwood takes his time going around the more edgy turns in the script, giving the actors room to stretch out and get comfortable in their characters and surroundings, and helping the film transcend its more formulaic elements (it's an obvious nod to the 1992 Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner chestnut, THE BODYGUARD). Best of all, Usher proves his game extends to the big screen, where he displays plenty of debonair warmth and easygoing charm. |

What is a formulaic action shonen series?
Q. Like, what would you consider a stereotype shonen series? Such as the protogonist male lead & female lead who usually accompanies the "hero", what are their stereotype personalities? As well as the antogonist & his/her "evil goal". I know it's alota questions, but I'm curious as to what determines a formulaic action shonen series, & how to reverse the sterotype when creating my own shonen manga. (In case you may not know, "shonen" means manga/anime for boys- typically has high action.)

A. The unwilling hero who has a "deep hidden power" just waiting to be released inside of him. The sidekick who's only there for competition and some funny situations. The dumb girl who isn't really any use to the the team. When he's fighting alot of people, there's no depth. Yet when it's one on one, the other character has some amazing backstory. And of course, the crazy bad guy who got "steered from the path of justice" and used to be taught by an extremely powerful warrior. Eventually, he'll fight and kill this warrior which he thinks will leave him the most powerful person alive. Oh yeah, did I mention that the male leads' main goal is to become the most powerful warrior in his village? But he can't do it without the help of friends, and… [cont.]
