Does anybody own a gel fuel fireplace ?
Q. I was wondering if anyone had a gel-fuel fireplace if so what kind of fuel gel do you use. The one i have has a odor left to desire, don't care much for it.

A. I do. I didn't buy the gel fuel (they carry it on ebay), as I use a tealight candlabra thingy I burn tealights on. They also have the tealight birch logs. Check around the net. I saw a few different scents. The fake log that came with, I didn't care for. Would like to find a better looking log, then I might buy the gel. Do you know where I can find a better looking log? Here's what I have now:

Where can I find canned gel fuel for a fireplace without having to buy an entire case?
Q. I just purchased a ventless fireplace unit which uses gel fuel. I have searched online to order some, but everyone sells it in cases of 24 for $79. I really will only use it on the holidays and on occasion, so I don't need all that. Does anyone know where I can buy a smaller case? Do any major retail stores or online sites offer this?

How can i make Ethanol gel fuel on my own?
Q. How to combine the various constituents that make up the ethanol gel fuel.
Asked by Ize I - Mon Oct 9 13:09:51 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most gel fuels are just mixes of the fuel and a napalm type gel (polystyrene based). Many also have propriotary stabilizers. Not sure of your end use, but if you can buy it commercially, it will be much cheaper.

Does Diesel fuel gel up or freeze up in 18 wheelers during the winter?
Q. Is that why they have to leave the trucks running all the time and add treatment to the fuel system as well?
Asked by Dig That!!! - Sun Dec 6 09:24:11 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Diesel fuel gets thick at around 20F, and will be pure jelly at 0F. Pump fuel usually contains anti gelling additives, but in extremely cold weather you need to add something more. In the old days, a little gasoline or kerosene could be added to the tank to keep the fuel liquid. But the new electronically controlled trucks may not be happy with these "additives". However, this isn't the reason that trucks are left running. Reasoning includes: 1) Truck engines wear more during start up than when running 2) Truck engines can be very hard to start 3) If the driver is napping in the cabin, the engine has to run to maintain climate control I offer no opinion as to whether these are right or wrong reasons.

A. It is ethanol alcohol set into gelatin. You want the pure alcohol as any water will reduce the effectiveness. So basically Jello made with alcohol instead of water.

how to use fuel gel in chafing dish? can i just put the gel inside the burn container and lit the gel?
Q. i'm just really confuse.. i bought a fuel gel 200 gr. and don't know how to use it. also, you think i will put all 200 gr of gel inside or just little amount of gel only? plsss help me guys.. thanks!!
Asked by Richard M - Thu Apr 9 04:50:18 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Richard, yes, you simply put an amount of gel into the metal holder underneath the dish. The amount depends on how much you're heating and for how long. Just start with a small amount and see ho it works. You can always add more. To be safe, cover the holder with the lid to extinguish the fire. Then add the extra amount and re-light. You'll quickly get the hang of how to and how much for the future. You'll be a pro in no time. good luck

A. Check your local hardware stores. There are compact ceramic heaters made for small office or home spaces and they put out quite a bit of heat for their size. Best of luck.

Electric Fireplace vs. Gel Fuel Fireplace?
Q. I am thinking of putting a fireplace in my living room on an interior wall, just for looks and maybe a little extra heat in the winter. I dont know anyone who has either of these fireplaces so i was hoping for a little advice from someone with some experience in this area-- thanks for your help.
Asked by hh - Fri Nov 9 11:16:15 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't agree with the previous comments. I would suggest that you see the actual model of electric fireplace you are looking at. The downfall is that they don't look very real! Probably the most realistic is the dimplex multifire. Lennox has a nice one also that uses a dvd. Electric will give more heat, and be cheaper to operate. But make sure you see it first. With the gel you are getting a REAL fire, which even the best electric can't compete with. The gel also crackles like a real fire. It will be more expensive to maintain. Cheaper gels do emit a slight odor. If you go with the gel I would recommend you use Sungel, it is the cleanest. You can even make it yourself, to reduce costs. They also make scented gels as well. If you use it… [cont.]

A. There are several companies that make gel fuel, many of which are alcohol based. There are other ingredients however, so one step may be to check this company's web site to find the ingredients or order the product. I know Real Flame makes one and there are a few others.

How long does the Gel Fuel last in these "the Naked Flame" holders?
Q. these look so great and with heating bills going up and up we are hoping this will be cheaper, but it all depends on how long the gel lasts but the company just state "depends on weather/room conditions" that's not an answer! at least they could have put "in a still air 60degree environment on average it burns for 4 - 5 hours" so what do you guys think? do you think they are good and last a long time. they are for indoor and outdoor use because where else would i post this? so i put it where there are older people who might have used them
