How do you patch gaps in a shed?
Q. I have a wooden shed that sits outside the house. It is sturdy, but when it rains the gear inside gets wet because it has some gaps. I would like to cover the gaps in order to make it waterproof. Any suggestions on what type of material to use or how to do it? Thanks!

A. Buy some galvanized tin with length same as or a little longer then existing roof and apply with roofing screws type with rubber gasket's lap each piece over next at least one to two grooves a cordless drill will help speed the job. If it has a ridge cap buy the tin ridge cap to go over after mounting sides. Problem solved or could go with roll a roofing a tar type paper to replace shingles and cut a foot wide strip for the ridge cap and use roofing tacks don't know the roof type but either will work.

The back way to fix gaps under a fence that installed on a deep slop?
Q. We are putting up a dog ear fence in our back yard. The yard has deep slop going down the hill. Some parts are high and others are low. I don't like the gaps under fence its doesn't look good. I thinking maybe we need to have dirt put in to level the yard and once that complete continue to put up the fence. Sone else suggest we install broads at bottom of the fence where the gaps are.

How can we repair/disguise gaps between the boards in our newly laid wood floors?
Q. We bought oak flooring (glue-down over concrete) and the contractor that we hired to install has done about half the living room. There are gaps between the boards. Obviously, we will get someone else to do the rest of the floor---but what can we do with the floor that has already been laid? What can we do about the noticeable gaps between the boards in our newly laid wood floors?

A. have experience in this area on the receiving end as well. exact same scenario actually. what i did short of dealing with the hassle of either taking him to court or trying to call someone that will probably not respond well to replacement (as was my case), was i used a stainable filler, then took a piece of an end cut to lowe's and asked them to stain match it for me. it turned out fine and you can't tell the difference in that area and the rest of the floor. if your finish is shiny, you may want to dab on some polyeurythane or varnish to match. good luck!

What's the best way to seal holes/gaps in a 100 year-old tongue and groove ceiling?
Q. I recently removed the old insulation (batting) from my attic to make way for spray foam insulation. The contractors came today to start the process and decided to postpone due to gaps and holes in the tongue and groove ceiling. Concerned, they suggested the gaps were large enough for spray foam to cause damage on the second floor. So my question - what the heck do I do now? Who do I call to fix the gaps?
Asked by Lily Dustbin - Wed Jun 18 19:21:46 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well you can place plywood down and then the spray foam. Or you can do a time consuming task of trying to put everything together, by using a wood block and a hammer. You put the wood plank next to the piece of wood ceiling and knock on it with a hammer so the two seems join together better, but that will take you a good full time week to do. Either replace the entire ceiling or lay down a sub floor grade plywood. Sorry, I hoped that helped.

Q. With the wear and tear of a home...I've noticed that there is a gap or space between my floor and the walls in my room. I want to cover the gap up b/c i hate the look, and am terrified of creepy crawlies finding their way into my room that way. What do you guys reccommend? BESIDES stuffing the gap with steel wool? Can you guys break it down for me...with the specific names of products that I could purchase, and methods of closing the gaps. I have a baseboard trim that goes all across the room...however there is a space btween that and the wall even still... the gap is about 1/4 inch

How can I fill the gaps at the bottom of my ornamental fence panels where my yard slopes?
Q. My builder used 6 foot panels of steel fencing that left some gaps in the corners where the yard slopes. I'd like something I could attach to the fence that would look like the pickets that would extend down to fill the space. Is there such a product?

A. Your contractor would of been better off using rackable fence panels that would not leave a gap. The best think really is dirt and plants.

How long do braces take to close gaps?
Q. I've had my braces for about a year and a half and my teeth are pretty much straight now, but I have a few gaps. They put chains on for the gaps and these band things to help pull them together. About how long do you think it'll take for the gaps to close?

A. The best person to ask would be your orthodontist; he/she is familiar with your age, teeth, and their orthodontic plan. I'm sure some plans are faster than others, but most probably would want to move your teeth in correct position in increments. It may feel like it's taking forever, but there's less trauma to your gums and teeth if they do it a little at a time. Your gums would have time to adjust and keep the new positioning if you orthodontist was careful and not in a big hurry. After you do get your braces off, be sure and wear your retainers like they will tell you to, unless you want your teeth to migrate back to their original position. Good luck, and you're going to love your straight teeth and beautiful smile when you get… [cont.]

A. Whatever you do - be HONEST. Most employers do background checks, so if you lie, you're done. Now, if your gap is due to having done something less-than-stellar, be honest about it, but tell the employer what you learned from the mistake. We all screw up - but it takes a real class act to not only be accountable, but talk about how it changed you. Good luck!!!

What is a good way to correct teeth gaps?
Q. Rather, a slight gap. My two front teeth are slightly separating but it's not a uniformly spaced gap. There's a piece of my gums going in between them so it forces them to go out sideways a tad, and they also go outwards to come a bit of an overbite to fit with my bottom rowof teeth. I'm thinking of braces but they take a long time and cosmetic dentistry, both of which are pricy. I read somewhere that a simple retainer can fix teeth gaps but I myself don't think it's as effective.

A. First all, if you have gum tissue in between the teeth.. braces wont work! The tissue needs to be removed. Now.. some dentist can remove it... and some wont. Depends on the doctor and if he does it. Otherwise he'll send you somewhere to get it done. Usually a 'Periodontist'.. he is a specialist that deals with the 'Gums'. He will remove it, if your doc wont. Now... you can either get... Crowns done to close the gap, or Veneers. And also you can get Composite fillings done (added to your teeth) to close the gap. Also, braces... BUT if your front teeth are the only ones your not liking.. i wouldnt go there. It takes to long, for 2 simple teeth and cost way to much. Either way, the tissue will have to be removed first!! Composites will be… [cont.]

What is the best thing to use to seal small gaps between my laminate flooring and walls?
Q. We have some serious bugs (mostly ants) getting in, and I would like to seal the gaps, but I don't want to use anything that is horrible for my kids, either. They are 1 and 4, and still play on the floor a lot!
Asked by newmommy - Mon May 18 03:26:09 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You should take care of your pest problem, as a pest problem, meaning use insect killer or repellent. Sealing the gaps will NOT solve the problem. they WILL find another way in. The gaps between your laminate flooring and walls is necessary for proper installation. They allow for expansion and contraction and allow your floor to move. If the floor is not allowed to move it will buckle. If the gaps are unsightly to you, you should install (or have installed) a molding called shoe molding or quarter round over the gaps to hide them.

How long does it take for the gaps in my teeth to close up?
Q. Ive had braces on for 6 months, and last week they put a "power chain" on which is meant to close up the gaps which I had four permanent teeth removed due to crowding (two up top, two on bottom). I have to wear the elastics at night only as I only got the power chain put on the top as my bottom teeth are not ready for it yet. How long does it take for the gaps to close up?
Asked by Citson - Sat Jan 24 00:29:51 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends on how large the space is. You need to remember that the teeth have to move through bone. If you had teeth extracted then the spaces you have are significant and could take a couple of months. The power chains should be changed every 2 weeks, as they lose their elasticity after that and server no purpose then. Hang in there.. :)

If I start wearing my retainer 24/7 will the gaps in my teeth be fixed again?
Q. I wore my retainer off in on when I was supposed to be wearing it at all times for a four month time period. Now there are slight gaps in my teeth again. If I were to wear my retainer 24/7 again, will my teeth return to how they were when they were fixed by two years of braces?
Asked by Chester - Sun Jun 20 23:51:59 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Any minor gaps can most likely be tightened up if you start wearing your retainer again, yes. Still, it is a very good idea to go see your orthodontist. You need someone experienced to look into your mouth in order to accurately answer this question for you. Don't worry - orthodontists see this type of thing happening all the time. It would be good for you to go in and see if your retainer needs any adjustment so that it can do the best job possible in getting your gaps tightened up asap. Good Luck! A. Crown molding caulk, caulking gun and damp sponge. Insert tip of tube into void space and apply caulk. When it come out of crevice, wipe off excess with finger to smooth out. Wipe off the rest with a damp sponge to clean up area. Keep sponge clean and make sure no reside is left behind. If you do not like the results, consider covering the gaps in the corners with decorative corner covers that look to connect the ends together. Be creative!

Q. I want to remove the rotting sections of wood in my wooden window frames. What is best way of doing this? What filler should i use to fill in the gaps once rot is removed.
Asked by poulterin - Sat Jun 21 08:07:07 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well, you should check that the rot doesnt go all the way through - push a screwdriver or something similar into it. if its deep, you may need to replace your window frame, or at least that section of it. if its not too deep, use any scraping tool to remove as much of the rotten wood as possible - best on a dry day! paint the exposed wood with a wood hardener to solidify any weak bits and protect it. for large areas, it might be best to use a two-part filler, one that you mix the two parts together to activate it. it will be thicker and more solid than the ones that come out of a tube. if its a deep fill you may need to do it in several layers, allowing each layer to dry. ask at your diy store. if the frame is completely rotten, you may… [cont.]

A. 3/4 months at least, because it has to be done gradually with gentle force. Too much force and too rapid a movement causes too much bone loss and mobility of teeth.
