Is there a statue of limitations on how long it takes to recieve a refund from an extended warranty?
Q. I purchased a GMC Envoy in 2005. When I traded it in a couple months ago, I cancelled my extended warranty and gap insurance. It has been almost 11 weeks for a process they said would take 6-8 weeks. GMAC sucks & they have been very rude about the situation. They have sent the check from the main office to one in Texas even though it has been paid off for more than 1 &1/2 months to "make sure" there are no outstanding fees on the account. Could they not have just called about this & sent the check directly to me?

A. I'm a little confused here... when you cancel your gap insurance and extended warranty, you go to the dealer where you purchased it and get the refund from them. They're the ones that sold it, and they are the ones that return the money. In many years of work in the auto industry, I have never seen someone get the extended warranty money back from the lender. In fact, I work for GM and deal with GMAC on a daily business, and have never seen them cut a check back unless the loan was overpaid when the payoff was sent in. I would call the dealership where you bought the Envoy, and tell them you want the refund for your GMPP (General Motors Protection Plan.. the GM extended warranty company) and gap insurance.
