Golf is an outdoor lawn sport in which competing players (golfers) using many types of clubs, attempt to hit balls into each hole on a golf course in the lowest number of strokes. Golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a standardized playing area; rather the game is played on golf "courses", each one of which has a unique design and typically consists of either 9 or 18 holes. Golf is defined in the rules of golf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules".

Golf competition is generally played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known simply as stroke play, or for the lowest score on the most individual holes during a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play.

What are the procedures for playing golf at a golf course?
Q. I have only practiced at the shooting range and I have never stepped foot on a golf course. How do you know where to start and how do you know what hole to advance to next?

A. Probably best to find a friend who has played some golf and let him sort of guide you around the first time. It isn't too difficult and most courses are marked fairly well, but until you've done it a few times best to have a guide along.

What is a good golf driver for a resonable price?
Q. I am starting to golf and am in need of a driver. The driver that i have now is not accurate at all. I hook them very badly. Whenever i hit with one of my friends drivers they go pretty straight. If you could tell me a good driver that will make the ball go straight and far. Im looking for accuracy over distance. I would like the club to be around $100-$200 dollers. Thank you.

A. Go to your local Dick's Sports store. They have last years drivers for $200 or less (new). Check out the Cobra Speed, Callaway Big Bertha 460 and Taylor Made r7 draw and r5 draw drivers. Nike Sasquatch/Sumo is also a good one. Avoid Walter Hagen (junk), Titleist (designed for skilled golfers) and the Cleveland HiBore (odd looking/sounding). Also Dick's Sports have a PGA professional on site. Ask him/her for their opinion if you need extra help.

What are some good ways to practice golf in you'r backyard?
Q. I was wondering what are some good ways to practice golf in you'r backyard prferably without spending tons of money, please. I don't have that big of a yard, I also live in a decently busy neighborhood so I dont want to hit a car or a home. Basically put, what are some safe and fun ways to practice golf in my backyard? I would like ideas that include woods, irons, wedges, and putter. If you could list a (few) websites that have products that I could purchase to use please do so. Thanks for all the help, TigerWoodsFan.

A. Hello TWF Besides hitting into a net and putting down some astroturf for putting that only leaves chipping. Chipping is on of the most important aspects of the game and is probably the least practiced. I would say to put a basket in the yard at different distances each day, day 1 put it about 15 yards away. Dont stop hitting balls untill you get in say 3 in a row , then day 2 put the basket about 20 to 25 yards away and repeat. For putting practice you can always go to the local course and putt around on the practice green . Leon
