When is the government going to do some major welfare reform?
Q. I think there are too many people relying on government assistance that abuse it and stay on it longer than needed to get back on their feet. I never, ever see anything in the news about welfare reform. Why won't the government do anything about it?

What is the result of government investigations into bank unfairness?
Q. It seems the banks are constantly under investigation by the government for unfair behavior, such as outrageous charges. The government usually concedes that the bank has behaved wrongly. But nothing ever seems to happen about it. Does the government do anything about it? And if not, why? If the government can't do anything about it, why investigate on the pretense it can?

A. The full list of details can be found on this website. Since bank charges reclaiming began 5,962,605 template letters have been downloaded from this site alone. The banks are estimated to have paid out 1bn, with more than a million people thought to have got their cash back. Another million could be on hold. This has been perhaps the biggest consumer revolution since the poll tax riots, yet this has been fought from armchairs. This timeline shows the incredible rise of bank charges reclaiming...

What government related essay topic would be a good one to write on?
Q. My professor assigned an essay for us to write and his only instructions is to have it government related. I am suppose to use evidence, or support from a few reading we did together in class. I can't seem to come up with a good topic, so I decided to ask other people for help. If you know a good government related essay topic please do suggest it! Thanks.

A. Government related in what aspect? I think addressing the issue of the government providing Health Care to Americans would be a great topic as there is so much debate around it. Other good topics maybe the improvements in the U.S. defense system after 9/11 and the impact it had on U.S. citizens (airport security, bomb scares, drills, etc). Or Even relate the 2 in a sense. Use the amount of money used to defend the country in comparison to how much it would cost to provide basic Health Care coverage to americans. Improvements in the Welfare system is another great topic as well.

A. Rather than actively trying to solve the issue of too much borrowing that got us into this mess in the first place the government are using their stake in Lloyds TSB to push the bank back into lending money again, competitors will most likely follow suite and so begins the cycle again.

A. Do you mean Seljuk Turks? As far as I know, in history there was never large enough a Turkish population in Ireland. If you are indeed talking about the Seljuk Turks empire, then that particular government was an emperor governing over a number of local autonomous kingdoms ruled by family members.

How many people think Big government liberals are fascist deep down?
Q. I read a book called liberal fascism and it explained to me everything why modern liberals are the way they are because most of their big government ideas came from the fascist ideas that emerged in the beginning of the twentieth century. It explains why they want to ban smoking and fast foods and have a irrational fear that anyone that has christian values wants to force them to join. There whole belief structer resolves around the idea that government has the power to shape our lives and society into whatever form the government wants it to be.

What about a government that allows vets to become homeless and does nothing?
Q. I've read stories of vets coming home from Iraq and ending up on the street. This seems to be true for Vietnam vets and those in World War II. It seems the government would at least help these people get into some kind of low income housing or rehabilitation and schooling. Where is the government when a vet needs help?

A. As one can see from the varied responses, there are all levels of satisfaction with VA services - depending on one's own experiences. Of course it is those who have much difficulty in getting results that we hear from more loudly and more often. I would advise women whose husband's have high levels of disability, especially Vietnam vets, to do everything you can to be financially prepared for living on your own. Be familiar with what DIC is and that if you do not have additional income you will be living at close to poverty level. Lucky us who are old enough to have social security as well! Why does the Quensland Government spend Billions on Earth works whilst the housing situation is desperate?
Q. The waiting for public housing is absurd!! Where are people to live when rental prices exceed the tenants ability to pay? Our government does not care. There is land around Brisbane marked for Housing commission usage and has been so marked for many years now without any sign of development into public housing. Perhaps they are waiting for a time in the future to sell it to private developers at a (No doubt) huge profit.

Q. How does the government make sure you're not collecting an unemployment check from the government, and at the same time working on a job? I know they send out forms you have to fill out stating whether you're working or not, but obviously they would need another method to verify you're telling the truth.

A. Also they run the unemployment receiver's Social Security Number through Social Security So if you are working then Social Security payments are being made and that is how they discover double dipping these audits of state programs are randomly done by each agency.

A. Japan had 2 incidents just before WW2 which meant the military got power over government. The military killed Prime Minister and wanted Emperor to get initiative. However, it meant the military would get initiative over Japan. Emperor was just a puppet ruler cuz he was raised with the policy "the Emperor reigns, but doesn't govern." He did not have any right to govern without Minister of State's autograph. It is said that not only citizens but also even Emperor could not go against military at that time. If people protested against war, they were called like "the unpatriotic" and they were arrested or killed by military. So it was the military who wanted to invade other countries. Maybe it was like present North Korea. It looked… [cont.]

What do American gun nuts think will happen if the government takes the guns away?
Q. When I mention guns are bad on here, the American gun nuts start ranting about the governments going to kidnap them in their sleep and do something to them or walk into their house and do something to them (they're not sure what, but it's bad). What will happen? Will your sons and daughters in the military and government suddenly decide one day that average citizens should be sent to the coal mines? Will they lock you in prison while they sit in your house and laugh maniacally? And what in your mind is the motivation for the government to turn on the people?
Asked by FizzyBubbler - Wed Jun 24 07:38:21 2009 - - 16 Answers - 4 Comments

A. They think the government will round them up & lock them up in FEMA death camps. Which makes you wonder. Since when did Larry the Postman NOT having an AK-47 bother a soldier that disagrees with oppression? Since WHEN did NOT having guns mean you can't revolt? Since WHEN did GUNS become a necessity to revolt? Whatever happened to "You can kill someone with a paper cup"? Why don't you gun nuts THEN go revolt with Paper Cups? After all, all you need is the motivation, right? Guns are just TOOLS, right?
