A. Step one is to determine the angle (where John's head is). To do this you use the small triangle and mark the angle as theta and use the tangent function -- and it will look like: tan = 1.1/1.8 = tan-1 (means tan inverse) 1.1/1.8 = 31.4 degrees. Step two is to now calculate the height of the tree, based on the angle and the full length (1.8 + 24 = 25.8m). It will look like: tan 31.4 = x/25.8 25.8 tan 31.4 = x 15.75 = x (rounded off to the nearest 10th) So the tree is 15.75 meters tall. Have a good day!

Will my kid always be good at math?
Q. My son is in the 4th grade and he is great at Math. This is a subject that he hardly has to study he just knows numbers. I print 6th grade math worksheets for him to do in his spare time and he knows this stuff after I show him once. Will he always be good at math?Should I keep giving him harder Math to do? He gets mad when I do this he says "I know this stuff mom why are you makin me do this".

A. My Father used to give me extra Maths at home, I was quiet good at it for a while then totally lost interest, now I don't deal with numbers at all. Re-doing Maths worksheets is pointless and boring for a growing mind, it would be much better to show him other mathematical related lessons, fractions and the like, unless you want him to be an accountant. I'd let him know what options there are for mathematicians and tell Maths is an important tool for Scientists, Architects and other professions. But alone it is a little pointless.

A. There are several websites that offer free downloadable and/or printable forms, however, they may not be specifically for your school or your classes. You should consider what your curriculum will be next year and readdress the question with that information, or google search worksheets. BTW, 6th grade is considered Junior High now?

A. Depends on what math you are taking, for example Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry... In ninth grade I took GT geometry which is higher than honors, and I didn't think it was overly hard so don't worry. IF you know what math you are taking then go to google and type in that class and you can probably find some free problems. Hope I've helped and don't worry about it, you'll be fine.

A. I was watching 20/20 a couple of months ago and they had a segment on a guy named Mike Byster. Mike has one of the fastest mathematical minds in the world according to experts. I was seriously impressed at not just how good Mike was at math, but how effectively he was able to teach grade school kids some of his methods in only an hour's time. Just to give you an example Mike would ask the kids (about 10 yrs old) "What is 61 divided by 91?" In under 5 seconds they were able to come up with the answer: .6703296, just from doing the calculation in their heads. Q. Ok, so I tutor these two 4th grade girls. I give them math worksheets all the time but sometimes it gets really boring. I don't know what else to give them because they need help in simple division, muliplication. When I was that age my teacher used to give us math worksheets with a joke and if you got alll the questions right, the awnser to the joke was revealed and it made sence. A. Try using hands-on methods to teach them. If they need work on multiplication and division give them a "problem" where they can create arrays to solve them. I gave my fourth graders a problem to figure out square numbers... I'm going to plant a garden I want equal sides, how many different types of gardens could I have if I had square gardens (2 by 2, 3 by 3, 4 by 4...you get the idea). Have them do the same with rectangular gardens. Except you give them the answer...how many ways could I plant 36 plants to make a garden. Just make sure you have enough manipulatives and lots of paper and writing utensils on hand! = )
