What kind of grades do you have to have to get a full scholarship to somewhere like NYU?
Q. I'm entering 9th grade this year, and I've been thinking about how I could go to college, and NYU is the college I really want to go to. My family is kind of poor so I know I couldn't afford it though, so I was wondering what type of grades I need to get a scholarship. Thanks.

A. NYU is one of the premier state colleges in the country, I would assume you would need somewhere in the area of a 1450 SAT and a 93 GPA to get a full ride. In state public colleges are by far the cheapest though so if you get those kind of grades/test scores you most likely should be able to get into UNC, which along with NYU is probably one of the best state colleges in the country. I would just go there.

How important are your grades in your freshman year of high school?
Q. Do colleges put importance on your grades in freshman year? If not which years are the most important? Also how important are extra circular activities and community service?

A. All your grades in high school are important because when you graduate your transcript will have the average of your freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior grades and they take those four year grades and average it out. Colleges will look at them so it is important. You should always do your best in school no matter what. Also, college will look your SAT scores but GPA in school is more important than SAT scores. Community Services are also good for college. They also look at that on your transcript. The more community services you do the better chance you will get into a good college. Colleges doesn't only look at your grades and see how smart you are. They also want to see if you are a good person or not. If you did a lot commuity… [cont.]

What is the point in high schools not giving weighted grades?
Q. My high school doesn't give weighted grades. So, someone could take the easy courses and get a good grade without working so hard. On the other hand, someone could take an honors course and work really hard and not get as high of a grade. What is the point in it?

A. Don't worry about it- Colleges re do the GPA anyways with weighting, same w/scholarships. Also having lower grades but harder couses look much better than great grades but easier classes. I have no idea why they would do that though.
