Homework, or homework assignment, refers to tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed mostly outside of class, and derives its name from the fact that most students do the majority of such work at home. Common homework assignments may include a quantity or period of reading to be performed, writing or typing to be completed, problems to be solved, a school project to be built (such as a diorama or display), or other skills to be practiced. Main objectives and reasons for homeworkThe basic objectives of assigning homework to students are the same as schooling in general: To increase the knowledge and improve the abilities and skills of the students. However, opponents of homework cite homework as rote, or grind work, designed to take up children's time, without offering tangible benefit. Homework may be designed to reinforce what students have already learned, prepare them for upcoming (or complex or difficult) lessons, extend what they know by having them apply it to new situations, or to integrate their abilities by applying many different skills to a single task. Homework also provides an opportunity for parents to participate in their children's education. From Wikipedia under the

Also what kind of homework are your kids bringing in, those of you with first graders? Asked by llenahS - Tue Mar 6 16:17:52 2007 - - 6 Answers - 3 Comments A. well...how does the opinion of a 1st grade teacher sound? something that i do differently compared to most classes, is that i send home a packet of homework each monday, and expect it to be returned on friday. the kids then have a whole week to pace themselves. not to mention it is easier for them to keep track of an actual packet vs single slips of paper. we have 6 new spelling words each week, and i expect the kids to write each word 5 times, and to write a sentence with each...they need to write a journal entry (3-5 sentences) about what we are covering in science or social studies...i ask that they read (or be read to) for 10-15 minutes every night...they also put a list of 10-15 words in ABC order...and i also send home 2 math… [cont.] Answered by susie - Tue Mar 6 16:57:06 2007 How do you deal with frustrating homework? Q. My homework tonight is extremely difficult. How do u relieve the stress from stuff like this. Asked by kaeyoyi - Thu Nov 13 00:37:49 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You've got a physics test, an English paper due and a big track meet next week. Ooh, and don't forget that dance everyone s been talking up. If you find yourself inhaling food as you rush from the library to the mall or you notice a persistent ache in your lower jaw or the back of your neck, you probably need a little stress reduction. Here are five easy tips: 1. Exercise. You'll be surprised by how much better you'll feel if you take 30 minutes to practice yoga, go for a jog in the park or shoot some hoops. You ll reduce those stress-inducing hormones and boost your endorphins (those feel-good chemicals). Engaging in a rhythmic activity like swimming also helps clear your head. 2. Q. So, I play soccer as well as take 4 AP classes. This year the majority of our games are away games and it's horrible because we're required to ride the bus and get there an hour and a half earlier than our game and I usually get home around 11 to 12. Then I have my homework to cope with. And no I can't work on the bus because it's too noisy/bumpy and the bus leaves right after school so I can't do much then. And while we're waiting for our games we're required to watch the other teams so no time there either. I've been running on 3 hours of sleep for about a week and a half now, any tips are appreciated. Mountain Dew, Vault-whatever has caffiene on it. You can catch up on your sleep during your free periods/lunches/weekends. Dont look at your homework at night thinking "omg im soo sleepy, i cant get up for school tomorrow", drink some coffee and do your homework thinking that you have all the time in the freaking world.
