Is a Smog a heterogeneous mixture or a homogeneous mixture?
Q. Basically is a smog a heterogeneous mixture or a homogeneous mixture? Please explain your answer to me so I can choose the best answer.
Asked by livelovelaugh - Tue Oct 21 19:16:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. heterogeneous Obviously it is a mixture. There are 3 types of mixtures, solutions, colloids, and suspensions. Smog is a suspension like salad dressing. A suspension can be filtered with normal means unlike a colloid and a solution. The particles in smog are not spread evenly throughout also unlike a colloid and a solution. Finally, smog will scatter light, common with a colloid but unllike a solution. Again, all suspensions are heterogeneous so that is your answer.

A. 1. if it is homogenized milk , it is homogeneous, but the fat molecules are pretty big, so it could be heterogeneous if it separates at all. 2. salt is a compound 3. sugar is a compound 4.soda pop is a homogeneous mixture 5.ice cream is heterogeneous, especially some flavors 6. a pop sickle is basically frozen Koolaid, so is homogeneous since it is sugar water and color

A. HOMOgeneous = a mixture that is the same (uniform) throughout. It must be chemically uniform and consist of only one phase. HETEROgeneous = a mixture that has separate parts. A magnet can remove particles of substance X that are visible to the naked eye = HETEROgeneous, because the mixture has visibly different components, X and Y, which can be separated simply by non-chemical means. Particles of substance B are permanently suspended but not dissolved in substance T = HETEROgeneous again. Although particles of B are suspended in substance T, they are NOT dissolved, therefore B is still in solid phase. Since this mixture is NOT a solution, it is not chemically uniform so does not have uniform composition of its particles (the distinct… [cont.]

Explain the difference between a pure substance and a homogeneous mixture.?
Q. And two more questions. Explain why elements and compounds are pure substances. AND Is honey a pupre substance or a mixture?
Asked by exxohh<3 - Wed Oct 4 20:23:02 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A pure substance contains only one ingredient. A homogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or more ingredients that are blended so closely that each unit of the mixture contains the same amount of the ingredients as any other unit. For example -- homogenized milk is milk that has the cream blended in with the milk, in a manner so the milk no longer separates into cream and milk, and each spoonful of the homogenized milk contains exactly the same amount of cream as any other spoonful of the milk. Elements are pure substances because they do not contain anything else. Compounds are not pure substances. They are made of one or more elements. Honey is a mixture of several things. You're welcome.

A. homogeneous- a mixture of two or more substances that have uniform compsition(looks the same throughout) ex. water and salt heterogeneous- a mixture that doesnt mix together completely ex. water and oil compound- when 2 or more substances(/elements) join creating a pure chemical substance and can br broken down to either its elements or simpler compounds

A. homogenous mixture of hydrogen gas has only the hydrogen element. a sample of water vapor is not only one element, it is 2 parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, so it is not one element. theres the difference.

Q. food coloring ice cubes in liquid water mouthwash mashed, unpeeled potatoes how do you know?? i know what a homogeneous and a heterogeneous mixtures are. i dont understand how to use that knowledge to answer the questions
Asked by Hello - Wed Jan 21 21:13:47 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think food coloring is heterogenous. so food coloring= heterogenous (probably colloid) ice cubes in liquid water = heterogenous (thats obvious) mashed unpeeled potatoes= heterogeneous (its made of a lot of things like plant cells) homogeneous things are perfectly dissolved all particles under 10^-9 meters diameter size. Heterogeneous are over 10^-9 meters diameter. They go in 2 categories. Colloids have particle size between 10^-9 and 10^-7 meters and are like milk. They are very small and can only be seen under microscope. Their particles never settle to the bottom Suspensions are all bigger than 10^-7 meter particle size. Their particles settle to the bottom. EDIT: the people saying that everything that you can't tell apart is… [cont.]

Is tap water and orange juice a heterogeneous or homogeneous mixture and why?
Q. Is tap water and orange juice a heterogeneous or homogeneous mixture and why?
Asked by crookedibabygirl - Thu Mar 27 23:12:00 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A homogeneous mixture is a uniform mixture consisting of only one phase, such as liquid, or solid in the case of an alloy. Also, for a homogeneous mixture, any reasonable amount of the mixture has the same composition and properties as the whole. Thus tap water is a homogeneous mixture. Heterogeneous mixtures are mixtures with an inconsistent, non-uniform composition. The constituent parts of a heterogeneous mixture can be mechanically separated from each other. Thus, orange juice is a heterogeneous mixture because you can use a filter to strain out the pulp and have a substance with different density, consistency, etc.
