I want to increase horsepower to my lexus gs300. What should I install to increase horsepower?
Q. Besides intalling a turbo or supercharger, cuz it juss cost to much and tooo much work. If I install a cold air intake or a performance exhuast, which one will give me more horsepower? My car is a 3.0 inline 6 engine. Would 2 of these things decrease HP or increase. Please help me out.
Asked by kman - Tue Jun 3 18:44:50 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You will only see a slight gain, 3-5 hp without any other modifications. I run a 347 with a BDS 6-71 supercharger in my Mustang, 520hp @ 6,800rpm, that's after spending over $6,000.00 in parts and machining labor.

How much horsepower is in a stock 350 small block engine have?
Q. I have a 1979 Chevy Nova Rally and it has a 305 small block and its cracked. So I'm getting a new engine and it is going to be a 350 and I have no idea how much horsepower it has.
Asked by John S - Tue May 27 22:29:12 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Stock about 270-300. But add headers, flowmaster exhaust, dual carb, high performance cams and well you get the idea, you can easy hit 500hp. A 350 is so easy to upgrade and not all that pricey.

How much horsepower will i gain on a desiel by removing Catalytic converter?
Q. I have a 2006 gmc duramax desiel and i want to remove my catalytic converter to get more horsepower Um yes I do have one I looked under my truck and seen it. If its illegal then why do some trucks come from factory without one!!
Asked by Chris - Sat Sep 5 20:15:01 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if the truck was manufactured with one then it is illegal to remove it and more so than that most vehicles today have the exhaust system specifically designed to create an optimal amount of back pressure in the engine. removing the converter will cause you to lose this and besides voiding any manufacturers warranty it could and probably will cause you to lose fuel mileage and a drop in horse power

At what horsepower level in a 93 240sx automatic will I lose all traction when I step on the gas?
Q. At what horsepower level in a 93 240sx automatic will I lose all traction when I step on the gas causing me just to spin my back tires at takeoff and go nowhere. I want to keep my hp level at a point where I can still take off quick without too much spinning. I am running street tires. Thank you.
Asked by nissans13racer - Fri Mar 20 02:18:53 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The automatic transmission really soaks up those RPM and really makes the 240SX sluggish. You'll need almost 200 hp to drift successfully. 240SX motors were originally Pick Up truck motors reliable fair low end torque but not much of that power ever makes it to the wheels. Once you get the power up in the motor the auto trans will suffer. Good Luck SR-20DET motor manual trans and ECM and J spec wiring harness upgrade in your future or a V-8 LS1 ?

How much horsepower can I get from raising my piston compression 2 points and running premium gas?
Q. How much horsepower can I get from raising my piston compression 2 points and running premium gas on my 3liter v6?
Asked by Jay guy - Sat Apr 12 03:28:42 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Are you in a hurry? Raising compression ratio is expensive and causes "pinging". by itself, you won't notice much improvement. racers use a combination; hotter camshaft, freeflow exhaust, ported heads, better intake manifold, bigger carb or throttle body, etc. It's cheaper to sell your Car and buy something hotter. My SHO (3.0 liter) will blow most v-8s away, and it came from the factory that way. I paid $800 for it.

Q. What would be the best cheap and easy way to gain horsepower and torque. I have a 1998 Chevy C1500 4.3 V6 pickup and I would like more horsepower. If you know a good way just tell me, I will be the judge if it is to much for my wallet.
Asked by Cole C - Tue Apr 10 19:19:25 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cheapest ways A good synthetic oil, Irridium plugs, well shielded leads, cold air induction (not just a pod in the engine bay sucking in hot air), Extractors (headers for you yankees) high flow catalytic convertor, x-pipe for dual exhaust system, flow through mufflers. (K&N filters are a rather overrated) High octane petrol. Weight stripping. Good tyres. More expensive: NA mods like cams, headwork (heads cc'd, flow tested shaved etc), adjustable ECU, higher compression pistons, Block boring (if can be done) stroke adjusted. Very expensive: Turbo or supercharger kits, less expensive for low boost, higher boost will require modifications to the engine, ECU, fuel systems, exhaust systems and air intake to be reliable.

What is the formula to convert wheel horsepower to flywheel horsepower on an automobile?
Q. For example, if the wheel horsepower of my car is 318, how would I approximate what the flywheel HP of my car is?
Asked by Bobby Y - Sun Apr 1 12:02:30 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It has nothing to do with ratios. It has to do with transmission and tires mechanical efficiency, which can be estimated at about 0.8 for average manual transmission car and 0.75 for auto tranny car. Just divide your number by 0.8 or 0.75 and you get the estimate of your flywheel hp.

How much torque and horsepower do you need to do a decent burnout?
Q. I'm planning on buying a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria or newer year. I was wondering if I had 200 horsepower and 275 torque; would this be good enough for a decent burnout?
Asked by JMSA540 - Sun Feb 4 01:49:58 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your burnout method really does make a difference. If you want to burn donuts on an empty asphalt parking lot, then you should be able to do it with little or no added power, but a good bit of skill. But if you want to burn out on straight line take-off, you'll need to either powerbrake it, or add maybe 70 horses above a stock V8 Crown Vic. If you're not interested in top speed, change the 3.27 diff to a 4.10. And if your car has traction control, which is optional on Crown Vic, it will obviously have to be disabled, or you won't get the burnout you otherwise could. Smaller diameter tires will help, too. You might go just a little narrower if your burnouts are unsatisfactory. And buy the cheapest tires you can find (at least for… [cont.]

What is the relationship between Torque and Horsepower?
Q. How is horsepower measured, and how can two engines with the same horsepower have different torque? I've heard all of the analogies and had many people try to explain it to me, and I still don't get it. Fundamentally, I think I understand the difference; it's the variation in the numbers from engine to engine I don't understand. Does anyone REALLY know?
Asked by Billy - Mon Dec 18 03:14:52 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ok, let's have a go. Torque is the "turning force" - you could have a 100 horspower engine in a car geared down so much that it would take an hour to drive a single mile - BUT the torque (turning force at the wheel) would be so incredibly strong that it could drag a train behind it. Torque is generally more important than horsepower to people who race professionally - in fact this is one reason why nitrous oxide is so popular with some folks, it makes a HUGE difference to the torque - turning force at the wheel - and that is what gets races won. Having an engine that can make 1000 horsepower is great - but not much use if it takes several seconds to get to the stage where it is making it! A 750 horsepower engine that uses a little… [cont.]

Q. I am doing the restricted A1 course for motorbikes and have to be restricted to 33bhp until I've been riding for 2 years. I want to know just what kind of bike I can get and seem to only be getting statistics with horsepower.
Asked by Boofers1991 - Mon Jun 29 12:34:20 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. brake horse power is the horse power coming from the engine. (bhp) the other term you will here is wheel horse power (whp) which is the power that actually gets to the wheel (usually slightly less) I suppose hp could be referring to either. Usually the numbers are close, but brake horse power will be higher.

Sport air filter (make sure it doesn't feed hot air...route the piping preferably to the corner of ur front bumper) 3.2" exhaust piping from header to muffler (2.25" might cause a drop in back pressure, and might lead to negative output); a good muffler. Remove all resonators that might be there 4.If manual transmission, ensure u have a good clutch n pressure plate 5.Fuel Injector- get some 400cc fuel injector. 6.Intake-Charger - get an Intake-Charger hope those will help...

How to get more horsepower out of a 2006 Scion xA?
Q. I have a 2006 Scion xA with a custom cold air intake and a High Flow catalytic converter with a custom downpipe and a 4 inch diameter muffler. I looked into getting a supercharger but was wondering if there is anything else I could do to get more horsepower out of my car. I don't want to go spending $4,000 on a supercharger yet. Anybody know anything else I can do to get more horsepower?
Asked by daremaster7 - Tue Aug 25 22:52:59 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You will not get any additional horse power out of a scion xA without a turbo charger. The Supercharger was discontinued so do not waste your money on it. The turbo beats the supers hands down in ever testing and reliability. If you are running an automatic transmission do not waste your money.

A. its hard to say as the super charger sucks power out of the engine, so it has to cram extra air in to the engine, to make it more power full overall then before. it should definitely add quite a bit if dome well with other regular maintenance
