How would you feel about hosting a foreign exchange student in your home?
Q. I am directing this question not only at Americans but at all nationalities who might read the question and have thoughts about the subject. This year my family is hosting two students, one from Germany and one from Hong Kong, both girls. In the past we have hosted two boys from Germany, one boy from Korea, and one girl each from Germany and Hong Kong. This is our third full year to host, and we also hosted for a partial year. Our son was a foreign exchange student in Germany for a year. We have had exceptional kids to work with. The experiences have been incredible and we are connected to all of our past and present kids. A. I'm on my 13th! Our first just as an arrival family. I have four Danes, three Germans, two Swedes, two Swiss, one Finn and one Brasilian! As you can tell, we love it. We've also had exceptional students to work with as well ... and we wouldn't trade any of them! To top it all off, we spent our 25th anniversary on a three-week tour of Europe visiting many of them! Hosting not only gives you a new son or daughter, but it gives you a whole new family as well! A. The NFL is still trying to expand the fan base outside of the US. This would eventually produce more revenue if it does take off. Using our current NFL is a lot cheaper than going with the old Euro league of redshirt and bench players of the NFL. On top of that, the games that were played overseas or in Mexico were all stadium sellouts. Although football is not as popular in other countries, there are foreigners that like the sport. Soccer, Rugby and Cricket are their preffered sports much like football is our prefferred sport. They are totally different sports with different rules and really should not be compared even if it has some similarities. A. You can start small and use shared hosting. If traffic becomes big, then you move to a dedicated server where only your site is in that box. Or you can buy your own box and host your site yourself if you are capable Most of the big companies, in anticipation of traffic and the fact that they have investors and venture capital funds to back them up, buy and maintain their own servers. They will use some third party services such as Akamai for load balancing, but most of the sites you mentioned are tech oriented sites so they already have techies on board who can maintain and create their own servers and not use services such as Go Daddy

How do you find the hosting server of a website if you have the Registrar name?
Q. I didn't set this website up, and at the same time, my client cant seem to remember the hosting server he used. I was able to find the registrar in which the domain name was registered, but no information about where the website is being accessed from. Sure I could rout the DNS to the new hosting company, but then he'd be paying hosting across two servers! How do I find the hosting company of this domain name?

A. Ircd will run an IRC daemon on the server for you. You only get to control it - no other aspects of the server. Shell hosting means that you can log into the server and execute any commands that you like, probably over ssh. That means that you can run an IRC daemon, but also a lot more stuff at once such as a web server. It is also harder to set up and maintain. I recommend or for a shell server. They are both virtual private servers, so that it's as if you have a whole computer to yourself, and you get to be the administrator. There are several virtual servers running on one real machine. I'm afraid I've never used dedicated IRC hosting so can't comment on that.

A. Differences will arise when it comes to applications that you're going to use on the server to support your web site. If you plan to rely on open-source PHP or Perl-based systems, go with Linux. Also, if you plan to send e-mails from your scripts, it is much easier to do that from Unix too. In general, unless you have some Windows-specific application or technology that is going to support your web site, there are really no good reasons not to prefer Linux. Linux is much more reliable and secure than Windows.

A. Well, like most parties, you should make sure you have enough food and drinks for the guests. Plus, being a clothes party, you need to make sure there's a "changing room" and a mirror available (preferably full length). You could borrow a mirror from someone if you only have small mirrors in your house. It's also important that you have plenty of seating, where the guests can see the clothes so no one has to crane their necks to see, or miss out on seeing the clothes. Also having plenty of pens on hand as well as something to lean, for when the guests are filling out their order forms is handy (if applicable). Hopefully this helps you a bit! Don't stress though, I'm sure it'll go smoothly.
