What is the relationship between the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary, and the chosen gland.?
Q. What is the relationship between the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary, and the chosen gland.
Asked by austin - Sun Sep 7 03:11:51 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The hypothalamus sends releasing factors to the anterior pituitary which then releases the appropriate trophic factor which then triggers the release of the hormone from the specific gland. For example: the hypothalamus releases thyrotropin-releasing factor into the hypothalamopituitary portal system which travels to the anterior pituitary gland, which in turn releases thyrotrophin into the blood stream. Thyrotrophin travels via the circulation to the thyroid gland, and stimulates the release of thyroxine.
