Formal classes would help the most as you're actually having to interact in Japanese, which would simulate every day life in Japan. However, since you're moving there (where you will naturally learn how to do this anyway) and they only ask for some knowledge, you'd only need to know basic phrases I'm assuming (such as, "Where is the bathroom?"). Expensive computer programs like Rosetta Stone would be overboard for this situation, but I've seen cheap programs in basically any store that sells software. Some are around $40. Free online lessons might be enough, but I don't know how much time you have and how much you're expected to know. You could alwyas get a "Japanese for Dummies" book.
