what should society do to prevent innocent people from being accused and presumed guilty in the future?
Q. Many innocent people are being accused of crimes/sins they did not commit. They stay in the jail for years and they are innocent people, so how can society prevent these people from being accused if they are not guilty?
Asked by sarah A - Tue Oct 14 17:59:38 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To prevent them from being accused? There is next to nothing. I mean it would be great if eyewitness accounts were perfect. It would be great if we could get DNA evidence or perfect fingerprints every time and everyone's DNA and fingerprints were in a National Database(and I DON'T support that being done, I believe in a right to privacy if you have yet to do anything to get them put in that database). To help end the assumption of guilt I DO have an idea that would help. Let's stop broadcasting that the person has been accused of a crime. Let's start worrying publishing the name AFTER the person is found guilty.

What drives a person to kill innocent people?
Q. before killing themselves? Referring to the recent mall shooting-I can understand a person being so depressed that they commit suicide, but I don't understand why a person would feel the need to murder innocent people first, why cause anymore heartache than will already be caused by their own suicide? So much grief left behind because of one person's selfishness. I understand that it was for the attention, and to be famous even for something bad-but couldn't he see that for him it doesn't matter now?

A. there is no logic in madness, but usually madness does have goal. It may be recognition: to become famous or infamous. it may be that the person wants to play God with human lives and figures if I kill myself I wont have to answer to anyone for my actions. A person who has reached this unstable state of mind will not care or even think about someone else's heartache or pain. we probably will never understand the mind of a killer. In the courts murderers often plead insanity. And they would be correct! Because you DO have to be insane to murder even if its in self defense> In the case of self defense the mind discards all reason and logic and focuses solely on self preservation. In the case of homocide, again the mind throws logic out the… [cont.]

Why did God kill so many innocent people during the times of Moses?
Q. Let me see if I get this straight... Pharaoh enslaves God's chosen people to Egypt.. Clearly this is a dispute between God & Pharaoh. So why did God choose the route of killing thousands of innocent people to get a point across ? Is this the same God that the new testament speaks of ?

A. It's even worse when you consider that he was killing babies. All the firstborn boy babies of Egypt were snuffed by God. Yeah, I know...Jesus said that babies are not innocent. You betcha. And then there's the free will issue. Pharoah tried several times to comply and let the Israelites go but according to the book of Exodus God repeatedly "hardened Pharoah's heart". And you Christians worship this guy?

How many innocent people have been executed on death row?
Q. I found the number of people that were released from death row but I'm having trouble finding the number of people executed on death row who were later found to be innocent. Wow, your responses weren't immature at all. I'm glad you all have been brainwashed by the media so thoroughly. And actually, I know the number is at least ten but it could have climbed since I found that number. Also, just in case you were wondering, 115 people have been released from death row since its reintroduction in 1973.

A. No one knows for certain how many innocent people were executed because historically, once the execution takes place, the investigation re: innocence stops. There are 8 cases since 1976 when executions restarted, with significant indications the victim may have been innocent. See: BTW, since 1973 when the death penalty was reinstated, there have been 129 people from 26 states released from death row with evidence of their innocence (not just on a technicality). See:

Why do people blame Hamas and not Palestinians as if the Palestinians are innocent bystanders?
Q. In the last election Hamas won 76 seats while Fatah won 43 and the rest a handfull each. This means the mass majority have elected to attack Israel. Plus those who voted Fatah are not necessarily against suicide bombing children as we know. Hamas is not the problem, Palestinians are the problem. How can you say they're innocent? Do you think the Israeli people have the same desire to genocide Palestine, or are they just trying to get them to stop? Thoughts? To Against Justice: Hahaha, I'm not a yank and I know many Israelis and Palesntinians and the history. You should listen to Lupines. Lupines, thank you for your comment. A. I hold the Palestinians accountable for their own actions I don't know why anyone else doesn't. In WW2 the German society wasn't spared when allied bombs targeted Hitler's troops I don't know what makes these people so special and immune to the consequences of their actions or inactions. Their society is full of violence. Had they made their skyscraper in Gaza when they first got there we wouldn't be having this problem. Jewish people were pulled crying from those homes in Gush Katif to make room for these Palestinians. Rockets now come from Gush Katif to kill them. They left greenhouse to grow food, that would have provided them jobs too but Palestinians dismantled greenhouses when they got there. What a slap in the face of our peace… [cont.]

How do terrorists justify killing thousands of innocent people?
Q. I just don't get why they think it is okay to take over villages and kill innocent women and children who did nothing to them. How do they justify it? I have heard that some people are just born pure evil but I don't know if believe that. Why doesn't it happen in America, that terrorsits just kill hundreds of people and take over towns and people run away because of violence. Are some people really born just pure evil?

Why were innocent people tortured in Guatemala?
Q. I know that through the 60s and 80s innocent people were kidnapped and tortured by goverment forces. But why? What were the goverment's justifications? If possible, please answer the same question, except for Chile's case.

A. The 1% of the Guatemalan population that owns 70% of the land, considers the government to be a hired hand, like a butler. They decided that they didn't own enough of the country, so they persuaded their hired hand to remove those pesky natives. They are easier to remove when they are dead. Thats it, in a nutshell.

"There are still innocent people there," Lawrence B. Wilkerson, a Republican who was chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, told The Associated Press. "Some have been there six or seven years." Bush did not seem to care.

How did Pope Innocent III convince the people to go on the Fourth Crusade?
Q. I am writing an essay on the Crusades and I was wondering how Pope Innocent III convinced people to go on the crusades. For example, I found that Pope Urban II convinced people by telling them they'd go to heaven etc. on the First Crusade. I'd prefer non-political/economic reasons if possible! Thanks!! To be clear, I need myths and passions that he might've spread to convince people like Pope Urban did saying people would be cleared of all sins, not economic or political motivations.

Why do we put innocent people in jail?
Q. If a suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law then why are they put in jail? Isn't that putting LOTS of innocent people in jail until they come to trial?
Asked by Dave - Sun Sep 17 06:57:09 2006 - - 18 Answers - 0 Comments

A. yes the theory is innocent until proven guilty...however if you have a suspect there would need to be evidence incriminating that person inorder for them to press charges...i suppose people are held so that they will appear in court...bail is given to others to assure their appearance in court. if the suspect is high threat to community then best they are held to avoid any further damage. if all suspects were released i think bounty hunters will have their hands full...

why are people who are called sweet or sensitive considered dumb or innocent?
Q. i hate it. i am called sweet and sensitive all the time and i sometimes feel like it gives people the wrong impression that i am naive, simple, innocent, or dumb. yes, i do wear my heart on my sleeve, but i am actually at least somewhat intelligent. at work or with people who know me casually, they always kind of chuckle when they see me, like im just like this flaky, innocent girl and that it so not true. it makes me feel like they just think im like some quirky but nice character. i am a bit too trusting sometimes, but that is it and there is alot more going on than that.

A. You must be yourself. Always bear that in mind. Unfortunately, we live in a world in which you have to sulky, standoffish, rude and surly to be respected. I always try to be in a good mood and be kind to other people, and they also think I m an idiot. That s what happens to you if you try to start a conversation with a stranger or be friendly in a big city...they just laugh at you (not everybody, luckily) My advice is: Don t pay attention to what other people might say about you.Be yourself. You only have to give account of your actions to God, and all those people who call you "naive" are NOT God

Q. Why do many people perceive Desdemona as pure and innocent and compare her to the Virgin Mary and Jesus?
Asked by giggle - Sun Jan 11 14:30:59 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. She is entirely blameless. I've never heard her compared to Jesus, though. She is faithful to her husband, which in Shakespeare's day was the only 'honor' a woman needed. (Men, of course, had to be brave, noble, etc. to be honorable). She was 'pure' in that she was never with anyone but her husband, and therefore 'innocent' of any of the sins that might spot the marriage.

A. "1/4 to 1/3 that plea are guilty"? I would suggest that your information cannot possibly be accurate in the U.S. What country are you talking about? In the U.S., it does occasionally happen that an innocent person pleas or is convicted, but it is definitely not such a large number.

Is it better for 99 guilty people to go free rather than one innocent person go to jail?
Q. I've heard this quote before...how do you feel about this concept? Would you rather have a law in place that might put one innocent person in jail due to the wording of the law, but would ensure criminals paid for their crimes? Or Would you prefer that laws were written in order to ensure that the one innocent person would not be convicted? Even if that meant that most guilty people would also be set free? What if the law was about something really dangerous, like ensuring pedophiles were put away or murderers?
