how do i graph thesse?
Q. y= -2/3x +4 by graphing 3 points. y= x - 3 by graphing 3 points. 3x - 2y = 6 by graphing the x and y intercepts. -x + 3y = -9 by graphing the x and y intercepts. 4x - 3y = 6 by the slope intercept method. 3x + 5y = 12 by the slope intercept method.

A. (I never learned the 3 points way.) For the x and y intercepts one, cover up the "y" coefficient and divide the solution by the "x" coefficient. Then do the same with the "y" coefficient. Ex: 3x - 2y = 6 Cover up -2y and divide 6 by 3x. That will give you the x-intercept, 2. Cover up 3x and divide 6 by -2y. That will give you the y-intercept, -3. For the slope-intercept method, you need to convert those equations from standard form to the slope-intercept form: y = mx + b

A. 1. 3x+y=8 lets put it in slope intercept form which is y=mx+b -3x -3x y=8 - 3x m=3 b=8 m is the slop of the equation and b is the y-interesept. 2. -x+2y=4 do the same thing as #1 +x +x 2y=4+x divide by 2 y=2+.5x m (slope) = .5 b (intercept) = 2 3. y = x-3 so how do we make it steeper? the slope which is 1 needs to be a bigger number. if it was halfs then it wouldnt be as steep. so to make the slope bigger it could be y=5x-3, y=6x-3, y=1000x-3...just anything bigger then 1. how do u make a slope negative?? just plase a negative in front of it. y=-x-3 is negative. dont mess with the y-intercept which is -3 because u need it to be the same. so now u put everything together and u get something like this y=-8x [cont.]

How do I find the intercepts to know where to graph?
Q. 4x - 12 = 3y
Asked by Irwin A - Tue Aug 7 21:53:44 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. To find the x and y intercepts, just set x or y to zero and solve the equation. The x intercept occurs when y = 0, so you get: 4x - 12 =0 --> x=3 The y intercept occurs when x=0, so you get: 0 - 12 = 3y --> y = -4 so draw a line between (3,0) and (0,-4) and you have your graph.

A. These are all equations of straight lines. You should learn to write them in the standard form of y = mx +c. m is the slope and c is the y-intercept 2x + 3y = 12 3y = -2x +12 y = -2x/3 + 4 ; Now put values of x in this equation and find y. Slope is -2/3 which means this line will be sloping downwards and passing through the y-axis at 4. if x = 0; y = 4 if x = 1; y = 3+1/3 if x = 2; y = 2+2/3 Now the points can be plotted on a graph paper. the points are (0,4); (1, 3.3); (2, 2.67) You can convert all other equations in the same manner.

A. Problems 1 and 2 are done by the same method. Pick any values you want for x, (or for y) and solve the equation for the other variable. 1. y= -2/3x+4 I pick 3, 6, and -9 for x. You will see why I chose those numbers once I do the math. for x=3, y= -2/3(3)+4 y=-2+4, y=2 This gives one point, (3,2) for x=6, y- -2/3(6)+4 y=-4+4, y=0 This point is (6,0) for x= -9,y= -2/3(-9)+4 y=6+4, y=10 This point is (-9,10) I'll do everything I can to avoid fractions!!! Picking x= 3,6, and -9(the minus sign chosen just for the heck of it) gave me whole numbers for answers. Plot these 3 points, draw your line, extended in both directions beyond the outer points. You're done. By the way, it takes only two points to draw a straight line. 2. y=x-3 Pretty… [cont.]

Once again I dont understand graphing and would really appreicate it if somebody out there could not only graph but also explain each of these linear equations for me?

A. 1.) 2x + 3y = 12 rearranges and simplifies to: y = 4 - (2/3)x. Now pick three convenient x values. Since the coefficient of x has a 3 in the denominator, it is convenient to pick multiples of 3 to find the corresponding y. (x,y) : (0,4), (3,2), (6,0). Plot these, they will form a line. 2.) 2x 2y = 6 rearranges to: y = x - 3. (x,y): (0,-3), (1,-2), (2,-1). 3.) At the x intercept, y = 0 and at the y intercept, x = 0. Just substitute 0 for x and y separately: 3x - 2y = 6; if y = 0, then 3x = 6 or x = 2. The x intercept is (2,0). If x = 0 then -2y = 6 or y = -3. The y intercept is (0,-3). Just plot and draw the line connecting (2,0) and (0,-3). 4.) In the same way as 3.), the x intercept is (9,0) and the y intercept is (0,-3) 5). 4x -… [cont.]

A. Well, put it into y=mx+b form. 4x-6y=12 -4x -4x -6y=-4x+12 /-6 /-6 y=4/6x+2 A. The graph should consist of a line with a positive slope, passing throught 2 on the y axis. B. Y=4/6x+2 to graph it, put a point at +2 on the y axis. then go up 4 and over 6 to graph. then from (0,2) go down 4 and over to the left 6. C. The y intercept is 2. Because it's the B in the y=mx+b equation. The x intercept: 4x-6y=12 4x-6(o)=12 4x=12 /4 /4 x=3. The x intercept is 3. So, y int = (0,2) x int = (3,0) D. When it's in the form that your equation is in now. ax+by=c form, because you substitute 0 for the opposite value you're not solving for. If you're solving for x, put 0 for y. And vice versa. Q. (sobbing while writing this!) I am in algebra 1 and I just got transfered! I have a couple of questions about these things concerning the slope-intercept form thingy. Write the slope intercept form of the equation for each situation... 1. Line passing through (9,2) and (-2,6) 2. Graph 4x + 3y = 12 3. The table of the ordered pairs shows the coordinates of the two points on the graph of a function. Which equation describes this function? Here is the table! x y -2 2 4 -1 TANKZ! knashha...I am doing my homework, because these three questions are not even an ounce of my 33 problems that are included in my homework tonight, so I suspect you should stop judging people! I am just trying to understand how to do these problems,… [cont.]

A. slope intercept: y = mx +b m = the slope of the line. b = y-intercept One method of finding the slope is to take two pairs of coordinates such as in question 1: m = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2) so m = (2-6) / (9 - -2) so m = (-4) / (11) or -4/11 now that we have m, our equation now reads y=(-4/11)x + b. So to solve for b, we plug in one of the paired coordinates for x and y and we get 2=(-4/11)*9 +b. Isolate b by adding 36/11 to each side and you get 2 + 36/11 = b or (36+22) / 11 ... b = 58/11 .. or 5 and 3/11. so our final equation is y=(-4/11)x + 5 3/11. Q2: Graph 4x + 3y =12. A2: Isolate the y to get a slope intercept point: 3y = 12 - 4x y = (12/3) - (4/3)x y = 4 - (4/3)x y = (-4/3)x +4 so (0,4) is the y-inter [cont.]

A. To find the slope of any given line, you do (y2-y1) divided by / (x2-x1) So in your case you can do (6-2)/(-2-9) and that is your slope. Once you have found the slope, you can insert it into the generic equation of y=mx+b and using either (9, 2) or (-2,6) you put it into the equation. So, 2=(slope you found)(9)+b and you solve for b.
